Oh, right. My sister borrowed it, and it's been deep in her cupboard for the past decade.

Is Rez on HD any good? Has it aged well?
Also Exu, why were you playing Undertow yesterday? Do you hate yourself?

Send it now while not much is coming out, so that it doesn't permanently break while a glut of awesome is coming out.

How common is the red ring? Like, 1/3 chance, or something?

Special insider leak said it was as high as a third in the old consoles. But it's lessening with every new model (not the SKUs, but a difference in the chip they use for the coolant, I think, makes the difference. It's not something you can tell on the back of the box, but the newer it is, the newer the chip model is).

You still won't get charged if it failed on you that one time, whether it fails for them or no.

Our 360 died just before Christmas, apparently they will fix most Ring of Death problems for free, although Im not entirely sure of the details. Owen sent it off and it was back, all fixed in a few weeks!

360s have a 3 year free warranty on red ring problems.

I played Undertow for the cheeve mints. And I deduced that it's not THAT bad. For free.
Also, Rez HD is awesome, I don't have an HD telly but it looks better than standard mode anyway. Everything's been upped.
Edit: Oh and I hate myself.

Sounds like there is something wrong, though.... surely getting it checked out will be the best thing to do? How many segments of the ring are red?

But my worry is that I will be without a box for about 2-3 weeks, if they get it and there isn't anything wrong with it they aren't going to fix anything are they? You could always take a picture of it when it red-light's you, and include it. *shrugs*

Im not sure of the name but Ive seen Owen lurking around a 360 forum thats specifically about these problems and theres links to the various contacts etc who may be able to help... maybe post a piccie of it on there? Sorry I cant remember more detail but ours gave us a red ring twice: once it was 3 segments, minus the upper left or right, cant remember which... and that was because the cable in the back of it was loose. Second time around, there were 3 red segments again but it was the opposite top segment that wasnt lit. That was the problem that we couldnt fix ourselves and what we sent it off for...

Hmm... I had a quick Googleimage search and noticed that some of them are the 3 lights as we saw them.. which is what I assumed the ring of death was. So, if you get the whole ring lit up, whats that? Virus = very yes?

If the whole ring lights up, the problem is with the power supply, iirc. It's on the Xbox.com website.

Yes well at least they help you for that. My original xbox red/orangr rings all the time and refuses to start up. Their advice? "Buy a new one." What about my game saves and music? "Get a 360 next time." Can't you replace the hard drive into a new original xbox? "Nope."
So I have an original broken xbox with about 20 saves on there that no one can fix. Great. Oh, and I'm not about to buy one of those £40 books from ebay and read into a guide for fixing the red lights either so....

Question for people whose consoles have red ringed. How long did your console last from time of purchase till they broke down?

When it red-rings, do you lose whatever's on the hard drive?
I'm planning to get a 360 soonish, I need to know these things.

The Hard Drives are detachable. The Core 360 is, indeed, just a Premium with the HD taken out. So when you send off your 360, you take off the HardDrive and built-in faceplate (I totally didn't know that white bit on the front is detachable until I sent it off), and send them nothing but the base console. Then you get it back in 2-3 weeks.

Can you get hard-drives for use with the core system?

Yes, they're just the normal 360 hard drives for sale in game shops.
I'm impressed at Mule's time travelling abilities, by the way.

I've never seen any on sale, myself. How much would a 360 hard-drive cost? I'm currently stuck with a very [censored]ty 64MB card which needs half it's space taken up for a single gamesave in some cases.

There was a really good deal on near me where you could get a game and an HD for like £50, but that's because there's now the 120GB HD to compete with too. The basic 20GB one is still pretty expensive though, thus why it's worth just getting a Premium in the first place.
