Dear Nigel, Who was it that actually answered STC's mail - also who sorted out what was to go in there, and what wouldn't [and who was the "voice" of Megadroid? same person?]? I sent in a letter to STC once years ago, but it never got printed - I remember being really disappointed that it never got in Also, how much mail did STC receive, roughly (per fortnight, perhaps)? about as much as what was printed, a little less or a little more, would you say?

It's his turn to be night watchman tonight. Just like it was last night. And the night before. And the night before that, too...

Haha, I got like 3 of those "Try again!" letters from MegaDroid when I wrote in/sent in art.

Dear Nigel, Do you now regret ever entering this thread? I feel a little bad for asking him to do this in the first place, since I didn't expect this much of an interest. It's okay, interest will die down and I have the time to answer the questions at the moment.

All the mail was handled by the editor (and whoever was assisting them) by Fleetway. As a freelancer I didn't have anything to do with it - remember I wasn't employed by Fleetway, I worked for myself. I don't know how much mail they got - I did see some of it on the rare occasions I visited the offices in London. Once I spent a hour or so reading through a pile of it to see what kind of thing was on the readers' minds. Megadroid was written by the editor - never liked Megadroid myself...

Megadroid was written by the editor - never liked Megadroid myself... Oh, I suppose the idea was all right. I didn't really have strong feelings either way. And I can see how Megadroid was a useful point of contact for the readers.

Why did you keep sticking him in Decap Attack then?

Why did you keep sticking him in Decap Attack then? He appeared how many times? Twice maybe? There must be all of two or three panels when I drew him. And it was for a particular reason - some gag about Decap getting tons of negative mail.

What medium of illustration do you prefer – traditional inking and such, or digital work?

Dear Nigel Would you do me a picture of Biohazard throwing up ridiculous amounts for either money or favours? Need anyone killed? I'd rather not get involved in making any drawings if you don't mind. I'm sorry about that but it just takes up too much time. No worries.

What medium of illustration do you prefer – traditional inking and such, or digital work? This is really tough to answer because I just never thought of it in these terms. Digital artwork was the way to go so I did. I still prefer to ink with pen an paper but I have occasionally inked using a Wacom. But if you mean specifically inking then mainly I use a real pen - in fact I've gone back to using a dip pen. I'm sick of using markers.

Do you prefer writing or drawing? Since you're an artist as well as a writer, does it pain you to give scripts to other people to draw?

Porker and his Hands:
Okay so I was talking to Rich the other day and asked him if he remembered anything about this. Like me he didn't have any specific memories.
But he does remember me (I remember this too) talking about ways of making the gang look better. I remember very clearly myself being determined to get the cast looking less nursery book-like. I know I spoke to Rich about this in general terms but I can't really remember anything specific.
However I think it is most likely the case that I asked Rich to get these characters to look more suitable for dramatic stories. I may even have specifically asked him to give Porker hands or he may have decided to do this himself based on one of out conversations.
But the hands were certainly connected to me wanting to change the look of these characters.
The addition of the leather jackets was, I think, suggested by Richard Burton when I met with him at the FLeetway offices. In any case it came out of a conversation we were having and I think it was he who suggested it. I certainly remember him considering what kind of symbol should be on the back.
I'm trying my best to be accurate with my memories of all this but it was a while ago.

I think I write a lot better than I draw so I tend to be more satisfied with my scripts than my art. I'd never want to stop drawing though. This is why I try to choose the artists I work with. How could I feel any pain giving my scripts to Richard Elson, Nigel Dobbyn, Mick McMahon or Rob Corona? It's a privilege to have these people draw my stuff. Of course my heart sinks when my scripts go to somebody who I actually don't want to work with.

That's true, that must feel great.
Ok, why did the Kintobor computer change from its original design to the TARDIS-esque one? And on that note, howcome three seperate machines that I can think of resembled the TARDIS console?

Kintobor was moved a few times.... the one I remember most is the one in the former underground base.
Also, re: the jackets Porker and Johnny wore (which were ace! I soooo wanted one when I was a kid! XD) how come only they had them? Also, apologies if someone asked before, with the redesigns to suit the new style of the game characters, were you told to do that or was it a unanimous decision to fit in the with games?

I just Meant the very early Kintobor design, used in the Attack on the Death Egg strip, it (and the base) changed between there and issue #21. Ferran Rodriguez drew this as opposed to Rich Elson like, so that'll probably be why. I'll excuse the changing from a wall based console to a central based one because of the whole 'base being blown up thing' . The most commonly known Kintobor Computer, the indoor Emerald Shaft and the console in Raining Bananas all looked like the Tardis console I'm not accusing the team of plagiarism or anything, just wondered if it was a theme of some sort.

Ok, time to put my nerd hat on. During the Doomsday story arc where the guys in the Special Zone decided to throw the black comet into Mobius so that the hospitals/planes/machines of the Special Zone would be spared from the electromagnetic pulse, are we to believe that there are no civillian transports/hospitals/banks on Mobius, and how did Kintobor get out of that ok?
Haha.

Haha. Well, I could have written a few pages dealing with all of this kind of thing but is that really the kind of exposition that would be fun to read? I just wanted some dramatic stuff in there.
