I have, perhaps, the most awesome trance mix of Ice Cap Zone ever! Sadly, it doesn't seem to exist on the internet anymore. It's no longer on the site I originally got it from and it's not on YouTube either. The track is called Ice Age by Trance Canada.

Did you just use the computer keyboard? No, I just Command-click to create notes and screw around with them. I have a bunch of updates that give you more instruments and stuff.

No, it was definitely called Ice Age. I got the track off vgmix.com years ago, but it's not there anymore. Nor is any Trance Canada stuff.

I actually hate most metal covers of Sonic music (including most of the ones on the last page), really feels like they're [censored]ting over the originals IMO. I don't see the point in taking these classic videogame tunes and making them all screechy and 'hardcore'. I prefer the Hedgehog Heaven-type way of just re-jigging/modernising the existing music, preserving what was so great about them in the first place. That's not to say I hate all rock remixes (Malicious Fingers is a masterpiece), but the majority of them are just so lazy and...ugh. The first two posted in this thread are great examples of what I DON'T want to hear in a Sonic remix.
(edit) trance remixes generally do my head in, too.

Yeah but the original Flying Battery Zone (Act 2) sounds like it should be played by a metal band! Agree with you on trance music, though... of any kind! :S

Yeah but the original Flying Battery Zone (Act 2) sounds like it should be played by a metal band! Oh, absolutely. I accept Flying Battery as one of the few examples where a metal remix really works - because rock was arguably the intended genre of the original tune! The one LM posted above is great, and the one called 'Catapult' which -- I think -- is for Project Chaos, is also excellent. There are definitely examples of metal remixes being appropriate, but forcing it onto something like a Green Hill Zone theme is contrived and as cliche as a Linkin Park-Kingdom Hearts Youtube montage. It's tough to generalize though, because there is some awesome stuff out there. Here's one I really like. It's a fairly good example of what I was just preaching against, but the artist is so skilful that they've somehow made it work, mainly because they've preserved the original tune perfectly in there. I love it:

I liked X's remix of Ice Cap Zone's music, I've got it somewhere on my MP3 player. Dunno where the file is, though, but I quite enjoyed that, if a bit raw.

Well it went from covers being ugh and arrangements being ok to the opposite. You could have just said you don't like metal

Also, I remember having a chatroom conversation where Bryce and Pom were talking about singing along to Robotnik's theme in Sonic 2. Pom used to sing "Doctor Robotnik has a smelly bum". Bryce's version was a bit ruder. Consider me intrigued by these lyrics. 'Doctor Robotnik is a fat [censored], Doctor Robotnik is a fat [censored]'.

God these remixes are all so awful, especially that Flying Battery one LM posted. Sounds like one of the joke songs on Homestar Runner.

While I generally don't care what the old school fans think, I have to agree with them here: Sonic 4 sounding like this would have been awesome. ... I want.

We can debate back and forth about Sonic metal covers but, honestly, I don't think, thematically, this one can be anything else but a metal song.
Also, just remembered how bad The Machine is.

I like it! Eggman looks a bit like Lenin to me though for some odd reason. Really like that bit about a minute and fifteen in. Also, just remembered how bad The Machine is. For a moment I thought you said "This Machine" and was about to wryyy. XD
