You are no fun. Seriously, EV training has ensured that all joy and whimsy has been filtered out of your clinical Pokemon brainpie.
So noone watched the premiere of the new series of the most entertaining programme on TV? You don't have to know about cars or anything, it's just great fun.

It was really quite obvious he wasn't the actual Stig. For one thing, the last Stig got fired for revealing his identity, and Clarkson previously said he has a specific clause in his contract that it would happen to White Stig too if he did the same. That's not to say it wasn't a brilliant show and that it wasn't excellent to see an interview with Michael Shumacher, however. Besides, we all know the Stig isn't actually one person.

It was nice to see Captain Slow win something. FOR ONCE.

I think he's won a few things once or twice. Still, I always find James' and Jeramy's chemistry the most fun to watch, whereas Hammond works better on his own, I feel.

Mm, I'd agree with Pete on that one. Although the 3 way banter can work just as well with the lot of them all at once. "The News" etc.
Absolutely loved it, Hammond did raise a good chuckle with his muttering while on the Black Shadow.
Elsewise, I love steam trains, so to see one properly made and used was a joy. There's something about the construction, the mechanics. Awesome machines.
One of my mates, Pix from the EN forums suggested they might have a Stig reveal every week with different people as a running joke. Who knows. Elsewise, DSC mentioned to me that the FXX as a car probably wouldn't have been entrusted to anyone BUT Schumacher, so they simply had to get him in to "be the Stig" for a week instead of the normal test driver to get the thing a lap. Would explain why Clarkson didn't drive it.
Would also explain the INSANE lap that it did. 1:10, sacred feth...

It'll probably turn into a running gag like the Dacia Sandero. Every week the 'real' Stig is revealed. Still didn't stop me from jumping out of my seat and saying "Oh my God!" when he took the helmet off and winked. Apart from that the main film was good, not their greatest but certainly not their worst. But the show itself did feel slightly more chaotic than usual. But great things were promised in that teaser at the beginning of the show, so i'm happy.

It was a shame not to have Schumacher in the Suzuki Liana to see how he stacks up against the others.
I wonder if the FXX actually qualifies to be on the power laps board? I mean it probably can go over a speed bump but you aren't actually allowed to use the car day to day.

Didn't F1 drivers used to have their own board they had to use? One that Lewis Hamilton nearly topped bar the Stig?
About the Batmobile FXX, I guess it would still qualify, it's not that it can't go on the road (I mean, Veyron's faster, if not quite as good a race car) its just that Ferrari don't want you doing it.
Edit - Actually, I tell a lie, at least Wiki seems to claim it's not street-legal at all. I guess TG just wanted a really darn fast car to whizz around.

The Stig is like King Arthur, Robin Hood and quite possibly, Jesus; in that he is several people under the same disguise!

I really enjoyed last night's TG. As I say every series, it's nice to see some fresh material* on instead of repeats on Dave all the time. It's great to see James May, my favourite of the presenters, win a speed challenge for once. In the car, no less. I remember when he came last in the car across London, and they claimed he "ruined Top Gear". I think he did enough here to redeem himself of that, though! Also brilliant to see Clarkson work on that fantastic steam train (I'm no steam train fanatic certainly, but still...) and "Black Shadow" Hammond messing about on the bike! Made me laugh. On the subject of the Stig, I believe Michael Schumacher could certainly have been the Stig on a couple of occasions (such as the F1 tests). It was clearly a joke, however, but a cracking one at that. Loved the segment at the end where he (apparently him, in the Stig helmet) did a most awful lap in the Suzuki Liana, that raised a chuckle. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, though I am intrigued as to what the bikini woman with the coffin thing is about. *to see some fresh material NICE!

I thought the James May documentary on the moon landing afterward was excellent.

I was going to ask that actually. A lot of May's documentaries (I think for the Open University) are quite good. It's actually ironic that despite May's nickname as "Captain Slow", he's dealing with a craft that exceeds 25,000 miles an hour.

Watched that documentry too. Was genuinelly touching occasionally, actually. I also find it awesome that a plane built in the 1950's is still going that high.

How did I never spot this thread when it did the rounds originally? I must say I did find it highly amusing that even before the episode with Schumacher was finish there were people editing the Wiki entry for Top Gear taking the Stig thing as fact.
Personally, I don't buy this whole idea of the Stig being several people, I know it's a popular theory, but the whole point of the Stig is to have a driver who is consistent enough to know the track better than anyone and treat every car tested to the same level of skill. Also, if you look carefully, the mannerisms and driving style of the Stig never seem to vary, and I highly doubt any test driver donning the costume would go to the effort to copy the Stig mannerisms. Mrs Spud reckons it's Tiff Needell.

In other more actually-to-do-with-Top-Gear-news, the special this year is about the team doing stupid things in the Bolivian Mountains. On the 27th. Actually has more information here
