If you don't enjoy them, why the [censored] are you buying them? With, y'know, your money. I would fully expect people that continue to buy games within a series to have enjoyed them to some degree - because otherwise they're [censored]ing morons. I don't know who's giving Sonic Team money, but it's certainly not me. Way to use backhanded insults there.

If you dont buy the games, then how is that insult aimed at you in any way, backhanded or otherwise?

Newly announced Sonic games are often greeted with zealous optimism, I find. People are willing to jump on anything and praise it as Sonic's triumphant return to quality games. Remember when S06 was in its infacy? Secret Rings was touted as the glorious new standard for the longest time, too.
My opinion on new Sonic games is that each one does have its good points (however fleeting), but they're always marred by a laundry list of shortcomings that over time just starts to get on your nerves. The faults outweigh the enjoyment factor.
In regards to people just buying Sonic games even if they don't like them, I'd easily say plenty of adult Sonic fans would do just that. Because it's Sonic.

Well, not entirely. The Advance series of games produced three very different titles that were leagues ahead of their 3D cousins and the house of Sonic Rush is split right down the middle.
It just seems to be his 3D outings where Sonic's quality takes a nosedive.

See, even as far as the 2D games go I don't entirely agree with the general consensus. Sure, I do feel that they are still leagues ahead of the 3D games, but most of them seemed to have at least one aspect of the design that was guaranteed to drive me up the wall. In my opinion (and this is a very general summary of said opinion), they just don't seem as well-crafted as the older games. I guess that's kind of moot though since, as you've pointed out, general opinion on the 2D games is split right down the middle anyway.

It just seems to be his 3D outings where Sonic's quality takes a nosedive. I've been thinking that for years. only for my case, the handheld games get the high scores while the main console releases gets a fanboy and critic thrashing. I downloaded Sonic And Knuckles on XBLA today (regardless that I already own mega collections and MegaDrive Ultimate collection.) and after playing a good hour of fixed gameplay and no slowdowns, I really hope to god that their brand new 2D sonic game will play just like this. But alas, its just a fantasy and SEGA will never release the 2d game I want...

I'd be inclined to think said offender would also have to look like Bean. Though, on that note, I may not be adverse to having tea with Edmund Blackadder...... ~ But back to topic: Sonic on a 3D platform always seems a bit iffy. I tried the old Sonic games and the advance series, and compared it to Flicky's island, one of the earlier 3D games. The latter gaver me a headache. Maybe the 'right' 3D game has yet to be made. There's a big design difference between Capcom's D&D games and the Bioware's NWN series, but I'm sure Western RPG fans would like to forget the Pool of Radiance remake. Granted, there are better comparisons, but thats one that came to my mind first. (which reminds me: I really would like to try out the Bioware Chronicles game) All that being said, I am interested in Project Needlemouse, provided Sega adds in elements of what made the original 2D series so great.

Am I the only person who liked Sonic 3D? I doubt it. (and, I'm assuming you;re talking about 3D Blast) It had a good rating from StC at the time (okay, not entirely valid), but some fans did like the game. And, admittedly, it had a lot of nice ideas. I still don't know what gave me the headaches: either the isometric viewpoint (which can't be since I can play the heck out of The Sims) or the colours (which were kinda bland comapred to other sonic games)

Sonic 3D's brilliant, but only with decently long intervals between playing it. I don't think I could run through twice in a month.

I quite like 3D. I find it oddly relaxing. I still don't know what gave me the headaches... or the colours (which were kinda bland comapred to other sonic games) Maybe you should try and track down the Saturn/PC version, which gives the graphics a tune-up, including reducing the garishness. The PC one can quite easily be found at 50p or some such ridiculous price.

I have the PC version, most definitely the better choice. That and the Saturn one.
Never gave me headaches though, I've been able to do Mass playthroughs of the Saturn version before.

You kinda have to do mass playthroughs of the Saturn one because it wont let you save your progress. I remember I had a huge problem with the Lava Zone boss, and completed it just before I went off to tennis camp, so rather than have to do it again, I left the Saturn on all day.

The PC version is the best solely for the save feature.
That makes beating the game (without using an emulator) a tolerable prospect.

Even though the games really not that hard. I got through 3D on just my third attempt, had all the emeralds on the forth. The worst bit is all the back tracking you will have to do to get into the special stages, but there's nothing about it that makes it so much difficult as it is a chore. Since the Mega Drive special stages are a piece of piss, really the only difficulty is the bosses, and most of those are a cakewalk.
Oh that and regaining lost Flickey's which is more of an excersise in frustration, but not something that will eat through your lives.

Am I the only person who liked Sonic 3D? To me Sonic 3D was average. I didn't hate it but it never really appealed to me. It had a naff control system and camera; both making it harder to hit enemies. The music was good in places though....I can never get that boss music out of my head. NEVER!!

Sonic 3D was all right.
The Sega Saturn version does have the best special stages of any Sonic game though.

Even though the games really not that hard. No, it isn't, that's not my complaint. It's just long. I don't have the time to play through it in one sitting, which is what the MD version asked of you.

Quiet you! I was like 8.
Edit - in fairness, it was more like a full day of tennis training, than a 'camp' per se, but I was only semi-conscious last night and the words failed me.
