Not actually true, whether he remembers reading them or not he used to talk about them sometimes on the old STC list. I don't know that he read all of them but he used to draw some of them for pete's sake! his words not ours and I remember Nigel D pointing out that he did the jungle zone story to Nigel K. Also He was probably talking in general terms, in general he didn't read lew's stuff and visa a versa. I mean later he siad (i think during the pannel?) that he never cared for Tekno, so like I said he was probably talking in general terms As I recall on the panel somebody asked which original character might be good in a series of their own (I had trouble hearing this question to be honest). Tekno came up but I dismissed her in favour of Shortfuse. I don't recall saying I didn't like Tekno. On stage (but hopefully off microphone) I was talking with Nigel Dobbyn who suggested that Tekno would make a good girlfriend for Porker. I suggested that Porker had a taste for a different kind of woman alltogether. Nigel Nigel

Unfortunately, I didn't catch that. However, we did catch Nigel reading old issues, which including him reading Lew Stringer's old stories. He initially said that he never read any of Lew's work, and after reading one, he promptly closed the cover and pushed it away. after pointing some puns out (i think or maybe mick mcahons art?) to Nigel D. For anyone who cares the story was taking the plunge from 126 (i'm not a massive nerd for remembering that I promise it was my comic <_< honest) Seriously though I'm gald I took my st'cs now quite happy to see Nigel K flicking through. i'd say more about the weekend but to much too talk about and I can't get round to putting it down in writing yet. Stc-o guys you were all great (except one person, and you know who you are*) stc's two nigels were as great as I remember and archies ian and tracy! were great guys too *actually I was just making that up to add un-needed drama everyone was coolIt's true - I was amused by Lew's pun fish names. There's quite a lot of that Q&A on here - seems to have cut off the start, I don't know how much beyond that. Some typically insightful and pithy answers from Nigel K, and some really odd questions... www.justin.tv/summerofsonic/b/288821034Tom , cheers for that, for those of us who couldn't go! Some of those comments made me giggle. I seem to remember a few of these questions being asked at the Birmingham meet a few years ago!! :B Nigel, I do like your approach to us as your "fans". It must be quite trying to hear the same stuff over and over again! So, thankyou.

Nigel Nigel sorry didn't mean to misquote you and dare I ask.... what type of woman do you imagine porker going for? also Nigel thanks for the super sonic sketch, I know you've said in the past you much prefer drawing Decap, but after you talked about getting into trouble with Sega for the first pannel of 'what ever happened to super sonic' I really wanted to ask. also would you mind if I digitally inked and coloured a version of it? if your not happy with that no problem Thanks again for everything, it was great to hear your answers to our annoying and get to chat to you..... Also for everyone else I didn't have a camera so I only managed to find one photo of some of us at the pre party STC-O Representbut hope it gives a flavour Left to right: Studio, Me, Stiv, Pete and James Whitaker (who drew return to the death egg) and one else got photo's?

Don't have a lot of pics, and they're all terrible quality, not helped by the fact that for a lot of them I was dying of heat and and I'm a horrible photographer and should never be allowed near a camera and stuff, but you can see them here: s16.photobucket.com/albums/b11/Feniiku/Summer%20of%20Sonic%202011/We all shouted 'Happy Birthday'. Then found out our collective voices are gonna be in Sonic Generations, though I can't think where XD Jun Senoue clearly couldn't resist performing again this year, and finished off the show with a bunch of tunes, including City Escape from SG. And AAUK was made to come up and sing for Live and Learn, which was great fun. Once I have time I'll write up in my DA journal about the event but for now these are some sketches I did. because I'm silly and got no sketches from the actual artists. So I'll [censored] my own out: feniiku.deviantart.com/art/Summer-of-Sonic-2011-sketches-215098256 soncomsketchbook.deviantart.com/art/SOS-2011-sketch-26-215099786Also, got one of these epic prints from Tripyy for my wall: imagni.deviantart.com/art/We-are-all-made-of-stars-215060030Didn't get anything from Syaming-Li or Tavington though. Oh yeah, and Mike Pollock was floating around in the crowd somewhere, surprised a lot of people but he did show up at the pre party ( which I didnt attend due to money), he wanted his showing on the day to be a surprise apparently. There's a video somewhere someone got of him saying 'Welcome to the Eggman Empire' edit: there it is: www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150677667890158I didn't actually see him myself. Sadface.

Its always interesting to hear other people's view of the day so here's mine into the mix: - Arrived 9:45. join queue with slightly hyperactive girls behind me, slightly releived to be told that non ticket holders have to go to a diffrent line - boy did I come to realise the folly of my ways! - Queued for EVER. Probably wouldn't have been so bad if I had attempted to make conversation with people but contrary to populat belief I'm kinda shy about making that initial ice breaker with new people (although as most will attest, once you get me going I dont shut up - sorry!) Much like Jamie and Charles, thought about throwing in the towel but persisted like a fool. Mildly amused by somebody's suggestion in the line that the Pub across the road ("The Dolphin") needed to have its name changed for the event with the simple edition of the word "Echo" - Staff selling merchandising, the appearance of Sonic to meet and greet fans and dishing out free comic book day Archie magazines were welcome distractions to pass the time, but the surge of people rushing forward on each occasion made the line bunch awkwardly, so that created its own problems. ho hum - Stiv texts me throughout the morning checking on my progress, which is another welcome distraction from the tedium. - After tantilisingly close proximity to the door and a few short tempers of those around me at the frustration of the line simply not moving a jot for large swathes of time, finally make it into the building... to be taken upstairs to the viewing gallery - some sort of holding area I guess? its was a kind of exquisite torture, because there's the elation of being finally inside the building, but you're still miles away from actually getting at the convention itself, and aside from a bouncer telling people not to stand too close to the edge, no staff to explain why we were being held here. Hmm. Anywho, use the oportunity to have some packed lunch and watch Never Mind the Buzzbombers - by the sounds of things it probably worked out as a good vantage point to watch it from - eventually allowed in and head straight for the STCO table, and as I havent spoken to anyone for the last 4-5 hours I spend a good 10-15 minutes just babbling on about the queue - apologies if you thought I was obsedded with keep bringing up the line, but it did take up a signifiacant portion of my life that day- it was weighing heavy on my mind! - Chatted with Stiv for a bit and got introduced for the fist time face to face with Mike, Calisto, Nam and the rest, also got to chat with Pete again (havent seen him since the Birmingham meet - yikes!) - sampled the caferteria, (My very first Chilli dog - I can sort of see Sonic's fasination with them now!) and had a good old setting the world to rights session about the comic with Mike, Calisto and Stiv - later joined by Charles and Jamie when they make it in - an informal script jamming session of sorts. (I swap line stories with Jamie and Charles like we're war veterens.) - Briefly get introduced to Nigel K, I'm a bit daft at never knowing quite what to say to him so I just made some small talk and wandered off - once of these days I'll sit down and attempt a proper conversation/ gushing fangasm Nigel - sorry! - bit of a blur for the last bits of the convention (sffering from mild heatstroke perhaps?) - the on stage proposal was very sweet and did melt my bitter heart temporarily - I'm a big softie really! Sonic club was pretty cool of what I heard (is there a place to download the mix anywhere do people know?) - I kinda wished they'd played a similar set at the after party (Maybe they did earlier) - I'd have gone and had a boggie to Angel Island! - Went for some fresh air and drinks with Mike at the Dolphin, later joined by Calisto, Nam & Retro, enjoyed chatting about everything and nothing with them and got me fired up to try and be a bit more active again with the comic in some form (Probs not full art duties, you'll be relieved to hear!), so we'll see how that pans out! - Said goodbye to Mike and the rest as we all went our seperate ways, then found Stiv, Pete, Marcus & Studio in BK for much needed sustanence and then ventured off to the after party - Not my personal taste in music, but very entertaining seeing Pete and Marcus leading the crowd in impromtu limbo dancing and other associated hijinks on the dancefloor, which was probably justification enough for sticking it our till closeing time - I may have been witness to Pete starting a new dance craze - we'll see if it catches on! - Said my goodbyes to the gang and started the looooooooooooooong journey home for the nightbus - got in at 5am, collaped asleep. The End - cheers all, if I make it along next year, I hope to be queing less and see more of you all!

Oh, I think I saw you when you were getting the Mighty sketch, Projectzuel! Anyway, to briefly sum up my time since i'm too tired to do it in depth; -Got up at 5am, got ready and boarded the 6:48 train from Stoke to Euston. No idea if my ticket is single or return. -Made a beeline for the Camden Centre, the queue was already pretty long at 8:45. -Queued for about an hour, passed the time by badly singing Sonic songs off my MP3 player. -Got in eventually and made a second beeline for the merch stands. Jealous that both the EUR and JPN Chaotix boxes are in the glass case. -Went to the stalls to buy stuff. Bought StH #159 and 212, SSS #1; Battle Royal, the Knuckles Chaotix Special, SU #16 and SX #17 [£25], as well a Japanese copy of Chaotix [£10] nd a modern Sonic cast poster [£5]. -Played the Generations demo. It's different to what I thought it would be, I really like it! -Naka/Iizuka Q&A. I could barely hear it to be honest, although as a Crash Bandicoot fan I did like the fact he recalled one of his former associates having links to it. -Went to the Archie table. Miraculously managed to get the Knuckles Chaotix special signed by Yardley and Flynn (as Kitching may tell you, writers and artists tend not to sign work that wasn't done by them). Also bought a sketch off Yardley [£3]. I wondered how many other people asked for two characters in a sketch.... -Had lunch at 12, which meant having a chili dog for the first time. Meh, I prefer my hot dog sausages to be the proper stuff, and barbecued. -Got back to the main hall. I was standing at the back when Sonic Shorts came on. The first skit alone got my attention. -Met the two Nigels of StC. I bought an StC X Archie print [£6], and got them to sign my copy of StC #53. My verbal tic of referring to strangers as Mister/Miss kicks in when I attempted to get Kitching to sign it. Embarassment ensued. -The Cosplay contest happened. I certainly think a lot of wrong decisions were made, and the oversight of the NiD characters, TF2 Spy and StC Super Sonic was criminal. - Bought a couple more comics. They were StH #134 and #143 [£5]. Also bought a Sonia foam puzzle model thing [£10]. -Running Wild was shown. I really liked it. In hindsight, it turns out that the animation was done by Yuski, one of my fave fan artists. -Afternoon Naka/Iizuka signings commenced at 2pm. Queue was hella long. -While in the queue, Sonic Heroes in Brief was shown. Absolutely loved it. -While in the queue, Never Mind the Buzzbombers played out. I actually managed to get all the answers right myself, but I was chuffed that the specs team won. -Finally got to Naka and Iizuka, and get them to sign my Sonic Heroes instruction manual. People had been limited to 1 signature per person per VIP at this point, which is why I didn't get my Sonic 2 case signed. -Headed back to the cafeteria for a drink. I decided to call it a day by this point so I left at about 3:30pm. Didn't hear about the whole Julien-K fiasco, but an associate of theirs has explained why they weren't able to do and Sonic songs over at the Sonic Stadium. -Got to Euston at 4pm. Still didn't know if my train ticket was single or return. -Boarded the 4:20 train back to Stoke. Still didn't know if my train ticket was single or return. -Got home at about 6pm. And I still don't know if my train ticket was single or return. All in all, it was a fine day indeed, and a fantastic experience for it being my first convention. I may have now officially exposed my identity to Adamis with this recount, but I can guess he could guess who I was beforehand.

This all sounds absolutely fantastic and probably the last time so many of you will go. On the other hand, just about all of you who went are/were STC-O staff, so that wouldn't have felt odd at all..

Several people mentioned wanting to have more meet ups in the future, so there may be opportunity to all meet up again outside of SoS. Obviously, it should be on again next year, but with the Olympics, I'm wondering how that will go...

- Not my personal taste in music, but very entertaining seeing Pete and Marcus leading the crowd in impromtu limbo dancing and other associated hijinks on the dancefloor, which was probably justification enough for sticking it our till closeing time - I may have been witness to Pete starting a new dance craze - we'll see if it catches on! I'm assuming this is a different Marcus, as I surely would of remembered being involved in any limbo dancing XD

I'm half interested in seeing the pictures of the after party half dreading them i did go a little crazy (well for a sonic event) and thats before I had anything to drink..... also feniiku thanks for the video's nice to see jun's full set from a better vantage point, I could barley see anything at the time so thanks

I'm not gonna do a big long list of everything, cos I don't remember it all in order, and everyone has already spelled out how the day went. I spent most the time either wandering around being nosey, or at the STC-O table. Didn't speak to any of either of the comics professional staff (not interested in Archie, had nothing to say to Kitching or Dobbyn), didn't get anything signed (again wasn't interested), and didn't buy anything (it was all overpriced stuff I could get from Forbidden Planet, or had no use for).
But enough about what I didn't do, here's what I did do. Got up stupidly early, went to station, got on train, arrived in London. Joined queue. Was stood behind a guy who was switching between nomalcy and Eggman/Eggman Nega outfits. Was queueing with Cal, Stu, and Retro, but they buggered off to set up. S'alright, got talking with Stu. He's awesome and really should've done the Sonic stand-up, just insulting the audience. Hadn't laughed so hard in ages, put me in a good mood for the day.
Spent the day generally wandering around watching the crowds. Spoke to a few of the Cosplayers, some of them had done really well, and just seeing them on stage doesn't do justice to the level of detail in there costumes, esp. Black Doom, Gun Commander, Professor Pickles and the guy in the Amy costume (who didn't get in 'til after the contest was over, but would've easily won it). The actual winner didn't deserve to win, but won either because she was popular, or because she was wearing a skimpy and revealing outfit in a room full of horny teenage boys.
Caught up with a few friends from other places. Was nice to meet up with them, and we had a good long catch up. Won't bore you with the details, it's not people you know.
Went and queued to play Generations. Waited about ten minutes, then got to play as classic Sonic. I didn't suffer any glitches myself, but there was a bit of a bump in the physics of standard rolling (i.e. non-spindash) on loops. Wasn't overly fussed that it was identical to Sonic 1-3&K, I enjoyed it anyway and that's what matters IMO. The latter video of classic Sonic in City Escape swayed it completely for me and has hyped me up for the game.
Ate a Chilli dog. Nice idea, but I dunno, I wasn't overly fussed. Needed to be a tad spicier and with more chilli IMO. Certainly will be trying to make my own somewhen, now I actually know what is meant to be in one (cartoons never made it clear).
Didn't overly care for much of the stage stuff. The STC cartoon was interesting, the Sonic shorts were good, though we couldn't here it properly all the way at the back, same for Sonic Heroes in brief. Wasn't overly fussed with Julian K, but agree the crowd chanting "This Machine" was pathetic and insulting. Didn't really get infused by any of the other performances, but the other singers, i.e. the kareoke, and the Shadow song, and the level theme lyrics were more tedious than entertaining.
Spent some time discussing scripts and pitches with people. Was shocked at how pleasant everyone was. I imagined half the writing staff to be different, and all of them, but especially Mike, are far nicer than I thought they would be. There was a good lengthy discussion and trade of ideas and some jokey banter too. I think everyone came away with a fresh outlook on what could be done with the comic.
Most surprising thing was Retro though. Sat there at the desk next to him while he was chatting with this girl in a Portal based T shirt who then produced a bunch of My Little Pony Stuff. Retro could not stop flirting with her, and then handed her his contact details. He's insistant that it's not flirting, but he was blatently interested. Don't blame him, a MLP and Valve fangirl, that's his perfect woman.
Would love to have been at the pre-party and/or the after party, but time and cost didn't allow it. Got back around midnight, after waiting around for the train, as well as sitting in the pub discussing the comic. As fun as the convention was, and as cool as it was to see all the activities and whatnot, sitting in the pub (and also earlier the cafe) bouncing ideas back and forth was more interesting, and more meet-ups should be arranged that are sitting around talking, rather than having to wait for gaps in the performances that not many were all that interested in.
tl;dr, people are awesomer than expected, but the fanbase as a rule isn't. Should just arrange an STC-O pub based meet up somewhen and sit and discuss comic stuff.
