Excellent, I'm a mizark for this series. I'll be buying that as soon as I see it on shelves.

Unless there are significant improvements I'll be avoiding this one; I tried to play through Oblivion and I just found it so uninteresting and unimmersive that I've had no desire to play it again.

Oblivion's a great game, but there's a lot of it I'd like to see rather heavily improved for Skyrim. The news that it will be using a wholly new engine gives me optimism that it'll be a sufficiently different feeling game, but there are refinements abound that can be made using 5 years of 360 development experience and an insufficient amount of them will be disappointing.

It's going to be the 11th November 2011. I personally am very excited. It's also the release date for Uncharted 3. I'd go for that, but then I'm gay for Drake, anyway. The thing that put me off Oblivion was the sheer scale of the damned thing- I literally stepped out into the world, and stumbled around forever before choosing a path to take. Also, people always harped on about how great the evil brotherhood side quest was, but no sooner had the bloke approached me, some villagers attacked and killed him, and I was told the trail went cold and I couldn't move on with the quest...

Wow, that is really a stroke of bad luck! I don't think I've ever had that happen. The villagers must have spotted him before he could make himself scarce.

That's quite interesting. Because I found it VERY immersive. I think Yahtzee's review pretty much summed up all the problems I had with the game. For all its effort it was one of the least immersive RPGs I've ever played; every time I thought I was going to lose myself in this world something would occur that would bring me crashing back to reality.

I tend to ignore Yahtzee. Hilarious stuff, but I can't help but feel that he bashes stuff sometimes for the sake of giving it a negative review. Take, for example, Fallout 3, in which he said "Yeah, it's pretty good", and then went on to give it a thorough bashing. Fair enough, that's his thing, and I wouldn't change it for the world, but for an honest review, I go elsewhere. Now, onto my point. I agree with Yahtzee on this one (despite my above paragraphs) - the game will often throw a wobbly which kind of makes you go "oh". But the scale, spectacle and the sheer fun factor of thing more than make up for it, for me - I have to use a little imagination to get past the wobbly bits, to be sure, but it's still fun to me, levelling up a mage, or a thief, and just killing time by undertaking quests or pissing about with villagers. And that's all I want, really - something to whittle away some time. I can never get really immersed in a game because I will always get bored after a few hours. And as for Skyrim, I still stand by my above statement. Wishlist: - Dragons. Oh wait lol
- More of the customisation options - as free as you are in Oblivion, there's not a whole lotta choice outside of mage, warrior, stealth or archer. Sure, you can sort of blend them, but a plethora of skills would make it better, methinks (perhaps, in addition to vampire, the return of lycanthropy, amongst other things).
- A more Morrowind-style approach (without the massive difficulty). More weapons, etc. and creatures not to be levelled, so that you feel like you're actually advancing.
- Actual bosses.
- And just fix up the general "stiff shoulders, same voices" that Yahtzee talked about.
I think that's all for now.

Oblivion was far too "vanilla" for my liking and that interfered with a lot of the immersion. One of the reasons I liked Morrowind so much is that when it first came out it felt that you were entering a truly "alien" world. The cultures, creatures, plant life and architecture was so different from a lot of things we know. Obviously the theme is going to be very Nordic this time around, but I hope at least that the further east you travel the more Morrowindesque it becomes.
Also I didn't like Oblivion's talking NPCs... It made them all feel like clones and most mods either had poor voice acting or none at all making them stand out. I'd love a return to Morrowind's text based dialogue.

Linked for naughty, naughty material. Okay, okay, so it's not directly related. But I laughed my arse off at this, especially as it's how I know a friend of mine reacted. In fact, to make this post of any worth, Bethesda have revealed how they're handling the combat system. Now, I'm going to stop looking for news about this game, otherwise I'll know everything about it by its release, and that's never fun.
