I'm curious to know with regards to Wii games, which ones out of the really iffy or poo looking ones are any good. Examples being things like that Michael Jackson game, Lets Dance, Wii Fit, EA Active, etc etc. All games which sound good in concept, but could go very wrong.
Also, if you have any "normal" games, IE, Goldeneye, RE, etc which you think are good, particularly ports, lemme know.
I'm not really bothered about Mario games since I've probably played them.

RE:4, Umbrella Chronicles is good with a friend and some "who can shoot the most" competition.
Donkey Kong isn't bad either, but again, much more fun with a friend.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, just like it's PS2 and GameCube versions, is one of the bust games on the system. The new controls inject a little new life into it that will have you play through a couple more times.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and especially Darkside Chronicles are both great, if a little shallow. It's nice to go over the old Resi stories again and it's about as good as rail shooters get.
REmake and Resi 0 are also both available with the addition of waggle controls, but also optional GC controller support. Of course, being backward compatable anyway, the Wii can just play the, somewhat cheaper, original releases.
Sonic Colours is definitely worth a purchase and don't listen to anyone who says otherwise as it's the best 3D Sonic game ever.
Silent Hill [censored]tered Memories is a superb return to form for an otherwise stale series of games, with storytelling rivalling that of Silent Hill 2.
As for games I haven't played, there are certain ones I'll be grabbing when I can.
For example, Goldeneye is reportedly really good, despite what everyone assumed, Donkey Kong Country Returns is apparently a very well made 2D platformer and Red Steel 2 is great if you fancy forking out a tenner or so for Wii Motion Plus (or if you got it packaged with the Wii).

Both No More Heroes games are worth a purchase. The first one in particular makes more creative use of the Wii controller outside of combat.
Also, assuming you don't already have it on the PS2, get Okami.
House of the Dead: Overkill is fun, but oh-so-very short.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is really good. Loads of hours of gameplay, and the controls actually work worth a damn. And I agree with all of the above, except No More Heroes, but that's not so much a disagreement as "I've never actually played either of them".

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, MadWorld, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 to name a few.

NMH is style over substance, and you can get about the same experience by just watching it on Youtube. That way you don't get the annoyance and RSI.

House of the Dead: Overkill is fun, but oh-so-very short. Is a gun peripheral really necessary for HOTD?

Is a gun peripheral really necessary for HOTD? Of course not. The Wiimote is well-suited for lightgun games. You can get gun attachments like the Wii Zapper, but they're just plastic gun-shaped shells to hold the Wiimote in and therefore unnecessary.

I feel the NMH games have bags of character (albeit in the second one we do start veering towards ANGST! ANGST EVERYWHERE! territory) and some great, memorable boss fights. Is a gun peripheral really necessary for HOTD? Nope.

Well I didnt mean it in a "do you need it or it wont work?" sort of way, its just that the Wiimote is obviously not gun-shaped, so I dunno how awkward/non-awkward it'd be playing a whole game as though you were trying to change a channel. I covet the official HOTD gun of course, but its unlikely I can get both game and gun for a decent price now.

I got the game and gun for a tenner each from Amazon a few months back. The gun's absolutely lovely to hold, although the fact that it essentially balances the entire Wiimote slightly beyond your hand, if you follow me, puts strain on your wrist after extended sessions.
*waits to see how long it is until someone quotes the last bit of that sentence in a sig*
In addition to what other people have suggested, may I offer Pikmin 2 (not played the Wii version, but the Gamecube original is sublime) and Another Code: R - not great, but worth a look if you like slower-paced, more thoughtful games. Its atmosphere makes up for the occasionally dodgy script.
Oh, and there's de Blob, which is almost great, but has a couple of issues - there's a sequel out next year that apparently fixes the problems, so you may want to skip straight to that when it's out.
And Kirby's Epic Yarn, whenever that's out over here. Piss-easy but absolutely delightful.

*waits to see how long it is until someone quotes the last bit of that sentence in a sig* Ehh, it looked better before I copied it. Oh well *done*. Well I didnt mean it in a "do you need it or it wont work?" sort of way, its just that the Wiimote is obviously not gun-shaped, so I dunno how awkward/non-awkward it'd be playing a whole game as though you were trying to change a channel. I've played 'Ghost Squad' for the Wii (that arcade game with the gun stolen from Crisis Zone and other good machine gun games) and it feels perfectly fine. Maybe I'd prefer it with a gun like in the arcades, but I don't mind. On the other hand, it could be like the shooting game on Wii Play, which really does just feel you're pressing a button and something pops rather than shooting something.

You can take or leave gun peripherals on the Wii and they're all interchangeable.
Sure, it feels more like you're actually shooting with a gun, but not using it doesn't exactly take away from the experience a great deal. If the game's any good, it won't exactly be horrific without the gun.
Similarly, the magnum isn't a necessity or must have when it comes to gun shaped controller shells. If it's gun shaped it'll all feel the same (except, oddly, the Wii Zapper, which doesn't feel very good in my opinion).
In conclusion. If you see one for a couple of quid, get it. If not, don't exactly avoid gun games. The RE Chronicles games and HOTD are still great without them.
Also, while I have no idea whether you plan to get it or not, I'll just let you know now that it won't work with RE4. Because they mapped the trigger to aim and A to shoot. Which is retarded. Which everyone complained about and so you think they'd fix it with RE5 Gold Edition with the Move controllers.
They [censored]ing didn't. The [censored]s.

I didn't mind the trigger-aim/A-shoot method. It was pretty close to the GC layout, which I prefer to the Wii version anyway. Crunching your finger down on that big R trigger to aim just feels right.

With no option to change, though? Admittedly, when it came to playing RE5 with a controller and they gave me the choice, I still went for the RE4 control scheme. With the Wii/Move controls, though, it's supposed to feel more like the thing in your right hand is your gun. The fact that the controls are customisable in neither 4Wii nor 5Move is pretty damn stupid.
