Just finished watching all 13 parts of Truckers on YouTube. For those who don't know, it was a stop-motion adaptation of a Terry Pratchett novel, more commonly known as the first part of Pratchett's "The Bromeliad" trilogy. It was on ITV about 19 years ago, and it's a brilliant series, well written, well animated and (unlike a lot of kids TV out these days) not the least bit dumbed down or patronising. The great tragedy is that Cosgrove Hall's original intention was apparently to make adaptations of all 3 books but, because of a change of management, it never happened, which is a shame because I would've loved to see that. I've never actually read the original books, but I may well look them up on eBay to see how closely the adaptation follows the original material and, more to the point, get the rest of the story. For anyone who cares, here's the whole lot on YouTube (highly recommended viewing): Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 / Part 9 / Part 10 / Part 11 / Part 12 / Part 13

Oh I've read the whole series (off the back of seeing the show which was AMAZING) I forget exactly how faithful it is to the books, because I've read them more times than I've seen the show now, but that sucks that they never got round to making the rest of the story for TV - the scope of the books expands massivly in books two and three, so would have been intersting to see how they'd have handled JACUB and pretty much the entire third act of WINGS!

According to Wiki, DreamWorks currently hold the film rights to the whole trilogy, so if they get their arses in gear there's still a chance of a full adaptation of all 3 books, though given that it's apparently been in the pipeline since 2001, I don't hold out great hope of it ever seeing light of day, shame though.

I hope it doesn't happen, personally. I mean, all three into one movie? It wouldn't work, in my eyes.

One would hope they would have the decency to Trilogize the thing, or at least make the first book and take a view on sequels dependent on its success (A la Narnia) - personally though I cant really see them doing it without taking out a lot of the darkness/social commentry of the books - I mean, can you really see the whole deconstruction of organised religion and faith being quite so obvious and still going over well in middle America?

Been reading the book lately, Mrs Spud found me a copy of The Bromeliad (all 3 books in one) and it's very good, first book I've read since leaving school that wasn't an autobiography. Definitely going to look into getting more Pratchett books when I've finished this one.
