What sort of accent? Do you imagine them with any of their game or cartoon voices?
In my mind the main cast have an American accent. Must be since I'm American, plus because every continuity has them with one; plus Sonic is very American technically so.. Yea.
I don't picture them with their game or cartoon voices, none of them.
Tails originally had a voice like his current voice, and Sonic originally had a voice reminiscent to his OVA voice without the SatAM like nasal effect, but that changed in my mind.

I imagine them as generically "American" just because, well, all the Sonic media that had voices back in t'day depicted them as American. Became synonymous with the characters, really. Do you imagine them with any of their game or cartoon voices? Generally, no. Largely because they've been so bad. However, Sonic Colours (coincidentally the only Sonic game in years that wasn't complete [censored]ing arse) makes me feel okay with Roger C. Smith's voice for Sonic. It balances everything the character needs to be without being excessive and Sonic actually sounds like he can hold a normal conversation, rather than just shouting crap all the time. He's not an unlikable idiot. That's a first. Sonic's voices in the cartoons always used to annoy me. Heck, his attitude, too. I wanted him to just calm down. Knuckles' SA voice was closer to what I imagine for the character than Dan Green, but his deliveries were far worse. Tails has had a string of awful VAs, really. Colours is probably his best one so far. I always thought that Maggie O'Hara would be the best choice for an Amy VA, personally. However, I'll always think of Long John Baldry as Robotnik simply because that man put so much rage and energy into the role. Nothing against Jim Cummings (who generally does fantastic work), but Robotnik as a quiet, seething villain? NOPE.

I'm one of those who tends to imagine the voices in whatever the current game incarnation is. Strangely enough, I had trouble pinning down David Wills in my head over Bill Corkery, and I'm having problems yet again with Troy Baker.

I Think of archie's Sonic sounding like a hybrid of his game version and urkle, but STC sonic i've always just imagined him with a Typical American hero accent. I always thought of Sonic as American as a kid, I mean I know he's a mobian but you get me.
Amy I did imagine with an english accent, a kind of ruff and ready voice, no airs or graces porker can't place him with an accent of a place but just the very nerdy and shy stereotypical cartoon voices. Johnny I dunno he was just there.
Knuckles gruffer but more expressive then his pre 4 kids video game voice (which when I first heard back in the day I thought was more suited to Sonic then Knuckles) Though I also kind of thought of knuckles as the sonic series answer to Tommy Oliver the Green Ranger as a kid so I guess also that was the voice I heard as a kid
Shortfuse I always imagined as a kind of angry anti hero, feeling sorry for himself but still trying to sound tough, very stilled delivery of dialogue I guess.
Tails as an american kid, certainly never sounding as young as he did in SATAM and less like a girl then he sounds in the games
Dr Robotnik sounded scary when done by jim cummings but I don't feel that suited STC robotnik as a kid, I can't think of a good description but as a kid probably the voice in my head was closer to the sonic underground voice.

Here's my version (all the voices of characters from the games come from either the games or the TV shows. But for many "made-for-the-comics" characters, I had to render my own idea and the results are:
Sonic/ Super Sonic (Sonic's voice gone Psycho)/ Metallix (basically a robotic version of Sonic's voice) Initally I had him sound like Jaleel White (having watched alot of AoSTH/ Sonic SatAM); but these days he more along the lines of Ryan Drummond.
Tails Strangly enough, Tails (in my mind) sounds like what he is now in "Sonic Colors"; so when I heard his voice, I was hyped.
Robotnik For Robotnik, he sounds like sounds more like his "Sonic Underground" voice.
Grimer Initally sounding like Snively, he now sounds like Baxter Stockman from 2003 TMNT (don't ask why, even I don't know, it just... happened).
Knuckles DAN GREEN! Need I say anything else
Chaotix Basically their 4kids voices (with Mighty sounding like Manic from Sonic Underground)
Amy Sounding like Lisa Ortiz (Sonic X - games) but with a more tom-boy feel.
Shortfuse I never really did have a voice for Shorty at first, but these days, I accent for him sounds like Michael Rosenbaum (when he voiced the Flash in JLU).
Johnny Lightfoot I had him sound like George Newbern (the voice of Superman in JLU... or Brian Mackenzie from Father of the Bride I-II)
Tekno the Canary These days she sounds like Veroncia Taylor (many may know as the voice of Ash from Pokemon, but I think of her more as the voice of April O'Neil in 2003 TMNT)
Doctor Zachary IAN MCKELLEN
Nack the Weasel Ted Lewis (known for voicing Bakura in Yu-Gi-Oh! but I based it more Jack Atlas in 5D's)
Porker Lewis is the only major character I never truly had a proper voice for; in many ways I'm still trying to get a voice to fit him. So what do you guys think? Good ideas or bad ideas.

Everyone is voiced by Long John Baldry. As Robotnik. Everyone.

Is it strange that I have always read the STC/O characters in British accents? I guess its because the language used was rather un-American... Doctor Zachary IAN MCKELLEN Oh my life, YES!

Is it strange that I have always read the STC/O characters in British accents? I guess its because the language used was rather un-American... Well, I guess when characters use phrases like "Ta", "flippin' heck" and "blimey" it's bound to feel more intrinsically British.

Yes - this is what I meant... but seeing as everyone else so far has said they read them in American accents, I wonder if I'm in a minority here... How else is one supposed to read: "Close the door! Close the door! Jolly well close the door!" ;D

Yeah, I tend to read the STC crowd as having very British accents; the way the scripts are written, I just can't picture them any other way. My ideal voice cast for STC would involve Simon Pegg, Stephen Fry, Nick Frost and Jessica Nyes. Maybe Dylan Moran as Knuckles.

Can't say I do. Maybe I used to. Guess that kind of thing's one of the downsides of writing it yourself.

Can't say I do. Maybe I used to. Guess that kind of thing's one of the downsides of writing it yourself. i dunno, I obviously don't write for stc. but when i've done writting before for semi-professional projects and even for my own pleasure (nerd) I normally try and hear how it think the character speaks beyond just the tye of dialouge I write for them. I think if anything this thread show how different people read differently, for me hearing the voice of characters is just part of reading, more so in books then comics, but for other people, for example yourself now or arch, they just read the words in thier own voice and charcater voice isn't really heard in there head.

I always used to hear them with accents that I'm used to, ie North Eastern. I used to write my little comics with the dialect, too. Which I didn't even notice til my Dad pointed out that Shortfuse sounded like a Geordie: "Not too sure about that, like, Sonic."

When I was a little 'un, I always imagined the characters with American accents (except Robotnik). I still do, for the most part, except with characters where the dialect is apparent like Capt. Plunder, Simpson, Mr. Fry, etc.

He was pretty good in SA2, but he sucked in SA1. There was an interview with Ryan up on sonic cult (I think) where he said you only got one take, didn't have any visual help and had to get it within the time slot.
