Without a lick of shame, a brief bit of self-promotion in the form of a new thread. I've got plans for my Youtube output you see. Small to moderately-sized plans. I am now working (probably on-and-off) on two Youtube series involving computer games and that: Another Bloody LP (or ABLP for short), in which I do more conventional "Let's Play" shows of titles I've played and acquired over the years (mainly retro titles, or whatever else I can capably record on my laptop). The first game I've decided to play through is the relatively short and sweet Puyo Puyo (barring a pilot episode, which you can also find on my channel). Here is the first part of that little adventure for you to view: The second series is titled "The doom of DooM", a series in a which I completely ruin the legendary father of FPS games for everyone by talking balls over the top of it for the duration. First episode will begin with the familiar Ultimate Doom, with plans to play various custom WADs in later instalments. That will be coming later, after the first ABLP is fully up and running. Feel free to sign in and leave comments, next part of Puyo shall be on tomorrow. Hope you enjoy.

Will watch the DooM one when it's up. An LP of Puyo Puyo is a singularly bad idea.

I would be on the proverbial tenterhooks all week if I didn't ask you why you think that.
I will say that I chose it as my first because it's relatively short and easy, doesn't take up as much disk space so is quick to upload, and because I find it really rather fun. Got other MD titles that I'm considering, but still to confirm anything. Might post up a list of titles I have later on for suggestions.
I'm not doing any Sonic games, however. At least not for a long while.

I've been enjoying them, Beeth. It's fun to see an LPer who's neither dull nor screaming at the screen - you sound suitably relaxed.

Thanks very much! I do prefer to take a laid-back approach to the commentary, partly because it wouldn't be particularly pleasant to shout and holler, mainly because my folks in the house would probably hear me and think I'd gone mental. I am also making an effort not to use stronger swears. I nearly drop one in a later video, but just managed to rescue it. Believe it or not I do get remarkably frustrated sometimes when gaming, which often leads to some unsavoury language. There'll be none of that here though, prom-mess. :3

I would like to do some gaming videos but I can't really think of a decent angle. I was considering a sort of "bad design exhibition" thing. Where I explain in autistic detail why sections of games are poorly designed. But that probably interests only me.

Nice stuff Beeth, I shall be watching you in the shower.

Something like that could work if done in a sort-of facetious way. You'd be perfect for it. And Asha, I don't have a shower. Unless of course you mean you'd be watching my videos while you're in the shower. I'd appreciate the compliment, but there's really no need.

No part 2 today, left my memory stick at home by mistake. Though I've got a number of mega drive titles that are potential candidates to try out; essentially all the titles from MD Collection/Ultimate Collection for PSP and 360 respectively, and I also have the following titles mostly readily playable:
- Batman Forever - James Pond 2 - The Pagemaster - Super Monaco GP - Ayrton Senna's SMGP II - World Cup Italia ‘90 - Taz: Escape From Mars - Rolo To The Rescue - Mortal Kombat 3 - Premier Manager - EA Sports Double Header - Super Hang-On
That's not to say I'm doing all of these, but any of the above that take your fancy, let me know. I'm currently doing the gameplay portion of Super Hang-On for my next ABLP.

I'd be interested to see your take on Robocod. Rolo's awesome too, but unfortunately it's not a great LP game imo because it's insanely long and has no passwords/save feature and as such would necessitate copious savestates.
Seriously, Rolo to the Rescue needs a save feature hacking into it more than ANY OTHER GAME.

I used to enjoy playing Robocod when I was little, a very charming and competent platformer. Never quite managed to finish it, on account of it being one of the last MD games I bought and not investing a whole lot of time in it, but I'll see what I can do this time round. I'll certainly manage it in the end.
As for Rolo, another brilliant game, I rented it from Rainbow Video enough times I should've at least paid for the thing once over. I probably would have to do a fair bit of savestating to get through it, it's really quite long and absolutely needed some sort of save feature. I'm not even sure how long it is, to tell you the truth.
Matter of fact, Pagemaster might suffer a similar problem, it's rather long and difficult also. I only got to the "Fantasy" part of the game four times when I had it originally.

Part 2 up at last, then.
Additionally, here's my production list as it stands on this post, to give you a succinct idea of how it is:
ABLP
Sonic The Hedgehog (pilot episode) - completed, uploaded Puyo Puyo - completed, partially uploaded Super Hang-On - in production James Pond 2: Codename Robocod - to be commenced (further titles TBA)
The doom of DooM
Episode 1 (Ultimate DooM) - completed, to be uploaded Episode 2 (DooM II) - to be commenced Episode 3 (TNT: Evilution) - to be commenced Episode 4 (Plutonia) - to be commenced Episode 5 (Plutonia 2) - to be commenced (further titles TBA)
P.S. - Youtube gave me an empty bleeding board as the initial thumbnail. ¬¬ I have since changed it. May take a while to update.

Beeth, what tech/apps are you using to make your videos?
|
|
|
Post by Beeth on Aug 13, 2011 18:14:19 GMT
Camstudio for screen recording, and Movie Maker for editing and narration. Probably better ones out there, but they do the job for now. Though I would like to be able to record at 60fps optimally, I'm recording at 50 in CS at the moment as it won't manage 60 without losing audio syncage, which is a bit odd.
I've also recently bought a headset with a mic for speech recording, as the mic built into the laptop is rather rubbish, and is often interrupted or drowned out by the fan.

I tried CamStudio and could not get the blasted thing to work. Enjoyed Episode 2 of Puyo Puyo - you genuinely manage to make a game that's essentially the same thing over and over entertaining. Are you going ahead with the plan of quitting when you lose, or has that changed now?

I didn't know Beeth was Justin Lee Collins.

Are you going ahead with the plan of quitting when you lose, or has that changed now? It's still the plan. Won't reveal if or when it'll happen, though. And thank you muchly for the positive feedback! Next part will be first thing Monday. I would upload it now, but I'm technically not supposed to be on here at home and uploading now would cause slowdown and give the game away.

This ignores everywhere north of London/Bristol. You haven't even ventured into the midlands.
While I understand how a foreigner (AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE YOU NORTHERN IRISH [censored]) may not be able to differentiate between accents quite as easily, to claim that the southwest and the northeast sound the same means you are literally deaf.
Every single vowel is pronounced completely differently, post vocalic "r" sounds are not pronounced in the northeast but are in the southwest and the dialect is entirely different.
It's not even like they share inexplicable similarities in spite of distance like Newcastle and Wales and Liverpool do- Justin Lee Collins' accent and Beeth's are almost complete opposites.
