www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/sonic-cd-coming-to-xbla-playable-at-pax/So this hasn't been completely confirmed yet, but seems a done deal either way. I'm not that interested, but I know plenty here will be. I hope SA2(B) is next though. Going through the effort of playing that on the Wii is too much. I'd happily pay for the convenience to get a good excuse to play it again.

Great news. Hopefully more people will be exposed to this wonderful game.
I've always wondered why Sega don't just put Adventure 2, Heroes and Shadow on XBLA yesterday. It's (basically) free money.

Great news. Hopefully more people will be exposed to this wonderful game. I've always wondered why Sega don't just put Adventure 2, Heroes and Shadow on XBLA yesterday. It's (basically) free money. I think the biggest problem with these comes to the emulating the hardware they were originally released on. SADX was, basically, its PC port - which is pretty much undoubtedly what this Sonic CD version is going to be as well. SA2/B did not receive a PC port, so its release would have to be either emulated from the Gamecube or Dreamcast version (and only Dreamcast is viable there, obviously) and that invites complication. Heroes had a PC AND an Xbox release, so it's a viable option, as with Shadow and its Xbox version - but both of those would still require 'patching' to work on the 360. I think they'd probably make a fair amount back out of an XBLA release out of all the Adventure era games, but there's no question that it'd be a bit more complex to rework/rerelease most of them than the ones released so far. Maybe that's enough to make Sega be wary of spending the dosh on it, but I know I'd buy it if they did...

remember when stu hated sonic cd man that's really weird in hindsight I remember when Stu hated Rush but loved 3D. I do believe Shadow is a Xbox Games on Demand game. Could be wrong. Actually enjoyed the hell out of Shadow in some levels. Its like the Werehog. Should not exist but fun for what it is. I would get an Adventure 2/Battle in an instant. If only for the Sonic/Shadow/Eggman levels. I cant explain why I love the Eggman levels in Adventure 2 and not the Tails ones.

And despite being butt-[censored]ing-ugly in places, Shadow's actually a pretty solidly fun game. Most of the weapon malarky could have been done without, since it was very much a "me-too!" to Ratchet and Clank - and never did it half as well - but otherwise it was a fairly solid Sonic 3D platformer and had an engaging enough plot to just about keep you going through all those different branching storylines. Plus, for a game that included a large amount of Sonic's expanded cast, it did it without making them a frustrating annoyance. Mostly. In fact, it was actually pretty cool when you worked out that you could plug in a second Gamecube controller and your friend could then play as the other character ala Tails from Sonic 2. The creation of Shadow highlights a lot of what was wrong about Sonic at the time, but despite itself, it manages to be a pretty fun title.

...
A) Why are they advertising it with Sonic 4's bumpers?
B) Why are they advertising it as "how it all started"? Sonic CD isn't the first Sonic game.
Absolutely baffling marketing.

The CD version is worse purely because of the cropped, redrawn intro, anyway.
It'll be the PC version, but with the original soundtrack. I can jibe with that.

I do wonder if US soundtrack will be DLC? Because I do think its a case of which one you hear first.
Apparently its using Taxman's Retro Engine. With optional Sonic 2 Spin Dash. Now all you they need to say they are going to get rid of the jump sound.
Also going back to Shadow (sorry) Anyone else think they missed a trick by not having The Drill Car from Sonic 2 in it? And other moments of fan [censored]ery.

i'm excited!!!
Apparently it's not a port, it's remade on the fan-made Retro Engine. The teaser is interesting, relating it to Sonic 4 - we did see Metal Sonic at the end of Episode 1...

Also, you can choose between spindash types, or something? And there's more than one camera option? This is fascinating.
