I don't think this, or the Retro post really confirms it (I think we need Sega themselves to do that - but for all intents and purposes, it looks confirmed) - but this is a good look over the thing and actually has me interested: toucharcade.com/2011/08/25/gentlemen-start-your-squealing-sonic-cd-coming-to-ios/Like I said not that long ago, I'm not a fan of CD - but this opportunity to give it a go in a new and improved way? I'll be all over that. It may be just enough to convert me. What I'm now wondering, is if they've taken this Retro engine and thrown it into Sonic 4's development too - since so much of the criticism against Ep 1 is based on its physics. If this is the case, I hope to hell that they plan to update or re-release Ep 1 with the same physics... Will probably pick up on XBLA and Android - since I don't have to pay for the Android version. :x

So far, we at Retro have only found 2 reasons why they wouldn't use the Retro Engine.
1. Sonic 4 uses 3D models, Retro Engine is completely 2D. This should be easily solved however by either pre-rendered sprites or an adaptation of the engine.
Most importantly however,
2. Sonic 4 is made by Dimps, in Japan. Sonic CD XBOX is being made in the US by Taxman in SEGA of America. The odds of Japan accepting the help of a new engine... not likely, if SEGA's history is anything to go by.

Until someone can prove to me they're all 2d, I'll go with what the people with much more experience than me say.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the characters are 3D models.

You can edit the textures, 3D model.

You're probably right. My source of the information is reading a post on here ages ago that was probably inaccurate...

I would've been content with a simple port, but it seems they've really gone the extra mile here. Genuinely excited.
It does make me wonder if they can amend Sonic 4's physics, too.

Sonic CD happens after Sonic 3&K now. It fits surprisingly well, actually. Also confirmed that they cant use the retro engine for Sonic 4 Episode 2. Drat.

CorrectionsI'm not entirely against CD being placed after 3K, but now, that's not entirely the case. It definitely happens before Sonic 4 though. CD can only really be place between 1 and 2 or 3K and 4. So yeah. Chaotix is really not canon now.

I find it apt that he compares Sonic 4 to the Star Wars Prequels.
Crush 40 singing Sonic Boom confirmed.

Trailer was already posted, and technically it pretty much IS a remake. Obviously, the point is to remake it exactly like the original game (with some tweaks), but it's being rebuilt from the ground up with a new engine and new development tools.
Whatever way the game turns out, it's very definitely not just a port.

engine being built from scratch from an indie developer and it's being ok'd by SEGA? Granted, its impressive that it worked for an iphone but its not like something like that hasn't been done before for the iphone and it's certainly not enough to rely the same guy to make a "built from scratch" port for a completely different console.

Why not? What if he's a good programmer? Just because he's not a pro doesn't make him bad.

This is one of those times I'd be content with it being a carbon copy port. Now Im scared they're going to ruin my beloved Sonic CD. :[

If they cock it up, we can always just play the original.
