I generally prefer the JPN soundtrack mostly because it fits with the past versions of the soundtrack. I only really played the game with the US soundtrack on the Gems Collection version.
To me it didn't feel as right as the JPN version. It would be interesting if the US soundtrack had been on a "Sonic CD 2" though.
I do like the Special Stage theme though.

But yeah, that's pretty hurtful. The truth often hurts. You missed your dad's wedding for a furmeet and he will never, ever forgive you. Nor will he cry at your funeral.

The only thing I think is missing to make this perfect (as ports go, of course) would be the unlockable option to select which tune you want to play on which level, both soundtracks have their strong and weak points.

So, anyone on Android actually managed to be able to download the thing yet?

Yeah, just gotta keep at it, turn your screen timeout off. Runs slow on the HTC Desire (hmph) but other devices seem to be ok. Alternatively, since the extra data is just stuff needed to play the game and you still need to buy the initial game to actually be able to play it, I think it's ok to link to this here: landofdroid.com/com.sega.soniccd.rar"For people that doesn't know what to do with this: unrar and copy it to your sdcard or the internal memory of your Android device. Then move that folder (com.sega.soniccd) to /Android/data. The installer will find the data and skip the download process. The save file seems to be stored in the same folder with the name "SGame.bin" so you can share your progress between your phone and devices. "

As I'm sure you already know, hitting a Past/Future post will take you one step in that direction. What you want to do is go to the Past in order to destroy a Badnik generator (which looks like a big doughnut of sorts - you'll know it when you see it because it takes out every Badnik in the stage until you time travel again), and make a "Good Future". If you travel to the future without destroying the Badnik generator, you enter the "Bad Future" (enemies are run-down, everything's depressing), but doing so after destroying the generator makes everything lovely. Creating a Good Future in Acts 1 and 2 automatically does so for Act 3. To get the good ending, you have to make a Good Future in all 7 Zones, which means 14 Badnik generators. ALTERNATIVELY, collecting all of the Time Stones automatically makes it so that you have a Good Future. There's also a Metallix hologram hidden in every non-boss past, but destroying this only makes animals fly all over the screen, and doesn't affect your ending.
TL;DR: Either collect all of the Time Stones or travel to the Past and destroy the Badnik generator in every non-boss level to get the good ending.

I think you need the Metallix hologram on each level for one of the achievements though. As well as the big metal burger thing (tm). Am I the only one who makes a point of getting both of those?

I've never been able to find all of those in all the times I've played this game over the years. Nice to see a Sonic game with some achievements that require actual effort.

Question for anyone who has this, does Tails get any sort of ending, or is it just a random sprite ala Sonic 1-3&K?

Yeah. Tails manages to run into himself from the future, erasing the Sonic canon and fandom from existence. Our collective deaths improve the life of those who remain tenfold.

Then who should enter the scene but notorious paedophile Ian Huntley. He regards Tails with a lascivious grin and nods sagely, stating "Your actions have made me king. I shall force my will upon all others, starting with you". He then strides purposefully towards Tails, who turns again to the camera, tugging on his collar and going "nya-hoo-ooh".

Fortunately, Tails is saved from his imminent noncing by Super Mario, who jumps on Ian Huntley's head and scores 100 points. "Thank you, Mario", Tails simpers, "you always were better than Sonic."

At which point Sonic will miraculously return to kick Tails's treacherous little [censored] skull in and fight against Mario in an epic battle of Dragonball proportions... which won't ever be resolved.

You guys are nuts. D:
Loving the port, finally able to play it with both soundtracks is the real winner for me. AND I've finally decided that I prefer the Japanese soundtrack, although I love both (U.S Invincibiity theme was my ringtone for about two years), I think the J/Euro one edges it out. Isn't it just a damn good time to be a Sonic fan?
