It sounds like something a Geordie would say if he turned his head too fast.
"Oo, me neck-o!"

This really isn't the best place to talk about When They Cry, I'm afraid. I mean, the last time someone claimed to like it, it didn't end well for them. Isn't that right, Roger? *knocks floorboards*
But seriously it's something of a touchy subject around these parts.

What Shay said, pretty much. If you like it, fine. But there are some rather mixed views on the franchise around here and discussing them here will only end in tragedy. Maybe even as tragic as the series itself....

When They Cry makes us weep, because it makes bad people weep in a very special place.

It was even before then, in my "Don't Have Nightmares" thread. One of the most controversial, not just for kicking off the whole "When They Cry" outrage, but also because it was where Shaker got himself banhammered. Ah, how I quizzical expression to recall it. It was the blackest day in the forum's history. Except for Chovi, obviously. And the time some guy spammed a load of shock images. And arguably a fair few other incidents that happened at one time or another. I digress. I suppose what I'm saying is, it's partly my fault it's a sore subject. And that Shaker's been booted out. D'AH well! Have fun, guys.

It wasn't your fault, Beeth. It was the Mods'. Those [censored]ing Mods. Climbing in your windows, snatching your Shakers up... [censored]s.

No, no, really - it's cool to talk about When They Cry, it's just that Higurashi is strongly, ethically objectionable to me, basically. As long as we're not posting videos etc I'm sure there's no problem. Maybe someone could dig up that thread for context?

Here it is, I looked it up earlier for reference: sonicthecomic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lounge&action=display&thread=11095&page=1I did actually watch the first four eps of Higurashi a while back, out of curiosity, to see what the fuss was about. Didn't see anything half as bad as some of the things described to me, it may have just been because it was the first arc. A decent storyline otherwise, but I stopped watching it to be on the safe side, that and I'd more or less naturally left the show at that point anyway. It is an interesting concept, but the more objectionable content described does put me off somewhat, really. I am curious as to what the BBFC would do if it ever passed through their hands for classification, though.

They'd probably give it a 12 and put it out. Like they did with the nonce-tastic Dance In the Vampire Bund. See the Neo forums for me whinging about that one...

Do you have a link? Though I think I've found the thread you're referring to, I'm not sure what your username is.
Was very concerning when Strike Witches got the same rating, I wasn't even comfortable reading its review (and feature, even) in the last Neo issue.

I can't believe I forgot to put Metroid Fusion in the Nightmares Thread. It is still the only game that genuinely unnerves me (not played Amnesia yet, mind) - I still dread the "Samus, it's an X mimicking you!" line. Every single playthrough, I cringe and shiver.

Was very concerning when Strike Witches got the same rating, I wasn't even comfortable reading its review (and feature, even) in the last Neo issue. It's the Neo 90 thread. I'm madhair60. I was really quite appalled by a lot of that issue. Thing is, by anime standards, Strike Witches isn't that bad - I've seen worse - but people who are not into anime will NOT get it, and that is dangerous. I think I put it rather well over on Neo, maybe I'll repost it... Edited: "My interest in anime doesn't centre on what Vampire Bund offers. It isn't so much one shop assistant thinking I'm a deviant that bothers me, it's their thinking anime is for deviants, or is characterised by deviance. You get it, I get it, we all get it – but nobody who isn't into anime can reasonably be expected to get it. Even some of us – including Neo staff members – find this show pretty dubious; to scorn the 'bleating masses' for getting the wrong idea when faced with such an image would be disingenuous. What idea are they supposed to get? You have to consider the cultural climate in Britain atm. Only the other month, WH Smith put mainstream gay magazines behind the counter. This morning, we're treated to snuff images of dead Colonel Gaddaffi in the newspapers. Britain is now in a period comparable to the Major era, twenty years ago – and we know how anime was perceived then. In a time when governments could use a distraction, it only needs a few random people to think they should 'ban this sick filth' to make life difficult for those 'outside the mainstream'."

There was actually a hot topic in said issue of Neo above, regarding said content (what with Vampire Bund and Strike Witches both featuring in that issue) asking whether it was "cool or creepy". Kinda goes without saying that it's largely the latter, really, though I did elaborate on Facebook with the following, slightly facetious, comment:
The bit in italics actually got printed in the magazine. It does more or less get the main point across, though.
EDIT: I wrote this before seeing your above post Stu. But cheers.

Haha, yeah mate, I saw your comment. I really do love the moe genre for the comedic tone it usually brings with it, but I fall squarely on the non-fetishy side of things. Fanservice in anime is interesting, since it's almost always there, regardless of the genre of the show itself. It's one of the things non-fans absolutely cannot get their heads around. It's a really fascinating subject.
I wanna get printed in Neo, lol. Where should I be posting?
