Are there any particular minor Sonic characters that you have an attachment to? Any reason you can think of? Mine: Lightning Lynx(Archie) - I've always liked him after Steven Butler drew him during the Iron Dominion arc. Originally he looked like some Chia pet gone horribly wrong, but his sharper, more streamlined design just made him look so cool to me. Manic the Hedgehog(Sonic Underground) - While a pain to draw due to his weed hair, I've gained a strange fascination with Sonic's brother. Part of it may be I love his singing voice(Tyley Ross is actually fairly talented from what I could find), and wish he had more solo roles. Perhaps part of it is sympathy, too - Queen Aleena neglects him based on many of her tendencies, and who doesn't have a soft spot for the neglected child? Orange clone (Sonic X comics) - I... have no idea why I like this clone. His existence was very brief, but I felt bad for his death. He seemed to be the most pacifistic of the bunch; when all the clones swarmed Sonic, he had a nervous, afraid expression, whereas his "brothers" were eager to beat up the original. Turbo (StC) - ...who doesn't have a soft spot for the Xenohog? Granted, he could use a re-design. Good Super Sonic (StC) - my liking of this character is fairly noticeable. Classing him as minor since he only has, what, three arc appearances, the last of which counts as his virtual death? I've always had a thing for evil becoming good and vice versa. I like the idea no one is beyond redemption and that at the end of the day, we are all capable of free choice, rather than being the end product of chemical processes.

He is, by his creation, a blue hedgehog responsible for the creation of all other life in his universe. Ergo, he is the deity of the Sonicverse. He just doesn't know it yet. :S Or, in layman's terms, for the purpose of the topic - he is the main, titular character, and this is a topic for the minor characters.

Chao would be such cool pets. Well, by "pet," I mean as in a personal favorite. Akin to how a pet peeve is something that annoys you but few others.

I am happy that I am not the only Manic fan.
I tend to like characters that not many other people seem to like. Like Marine the Raccoon. I don't know many people who like her, but I do.
Even I can't stand Chris Thorndyke, though.
And the neutral Chaos Chao is my favourite Chao.

I am happy that I am not the only Manic fan. Indeed. He needs more solos! You and Ian Flynn would be such great friends. XD Yeah, Chris is like Shadow in terms of his love/hate, and most who love him seem to be in it for the Sonic x Chris relationship. (From what I've noticed, anyway) I'm usually not one for character-bashing, but I don't see why Chris had to be introduced; he pushes Tails out of the spotlight as Sonic's best bud. I suppose it was simply to tie Sonic to Earth or some such, since the Mansion is the base of operations. I love Chao in general! <3

Pringles the idiot was kinda fun.
Almost every named villain from the Special Zone. Crimson Cobra in particular.

For myself in particular, my liking of some of the characters seems to have tinged my writing. In Sonic Shift, Lightning Lynx will have a fairly important role(being Sonic's rival prior to Knuckles' appearance). I'm also toying with having Ebony have a disembodied familiar, a Gaia spirit who will have many references to the good Super Sonic. Get this: he'll be a reformed demon to put it simply. Ooo, I forget, Bark's another pet item of mine. Often a subject of fan-works. I like him a lot for a guy whose personality is very cryptic. That and he has blood red eyes, and those always seem to bump the "this guy is awesome" for me. :S

Cat from episode 1 of SatAM was always a favourite minor character of mine. Found it strange, though, that in one episode the heroes travel back in time and encounter their past selves, as well as the younger Robotnik and Snively. And yet Cat isn't there, despite that he was supposed to have been one of the main group in the events before Episode 1.
Disclaimer: been years since I saw that episode so my memory might not be accurate

Disclaimer: been years since I saw that episode so my memory might not be accurateI'm not sure if it was Episode 1, but yes, you make a point. I remember Cat just being one of the generic redshirt FF(that is, shown in one episode only to fall victim of roboticisation). Cat's fate is rather dark, though - it seems he was killed rather than just roboticised. Why is it always the minor characters one gets attached to that get killed off.

It was definitely the first episode: I remember first seeing it. He was first built up as one of the main members of the group, then captured and vanished somehow halfway in. He did have a speaking role and everything, which is more then a couple other instances where a couple new, decidedly mute characters in a group existed for a few minutes only to be roboticised. And I just realised you write "ise" instead of "ize". Must be the influence of being on a UK board.

"Sonic Boom" is the second episode of the first season of the Sonic the Hedgehog television series.[1] However, it was the first publically aired episode, first shown on September 18, 1993. Seems we're both right. Still a rather dark fate for him; if he was robo'd, they surely would have shown him afterward as they always did. Poor guy. I developed the habit when creating my hybrid English. It's a concession to British English.

....and they ask me why I love this guy! XD I always loved Chip from Unleashed. Really, expecially when I found out just what awsome divinity he is. *_* SOOO KAWAIIII! And we shared a deep love for chocolate and icecream!!! oh, Ice cream...OH OH!!! *_* *ahem*.....that aside, I also have a soft spot for Shade. She was a really well pasted character. In my opinion the best "companion", if you get what I mean, *no not romantic point* for Knuckles. For me far better than that Julie-su and also Tikal... I also liked Manic agreed. And....hehe... the Shanazar Princess.

I notice there's also a particular skew towards preferring him if he uses his Japanese voice. I'm amused they don't really touch on the fact he's the most powerful of the three despite implying it.

true. When you think about underground the first one that pops to your mind is Manic. I could come up with a thousand ways to adopt him in STCO but that wouldn't really be right, huh?

I suppose Chip could count as a pet of mine, in retrospect, given that I've effectively turned him into my concept of what a supreme being would be like. true. When you think about underground the first one that pops to your mind is Manic. I could come up with a thousand ways to adopt him in STCO but that wouldn't really be right, huh? Well given that we had Turbo, I predict the two would have a scuffle for who gets to be the star tertiary hedgehog. Turbo can use his tail, and Manic can use that forest of tentacles he calls hair. It'll be great fun! It's like the old scorpion vs. spider duel! When I think about Underground, I think about how people condemn it for how childish it is, ignoring that that is Sonic's target audience. While the music isn't epic to most adults, to a child it's likely wondrous and even teaches them some values.

If I could I'd go back and high-five myself and then kick my brother in the chops. Underground was really poor at educating us, I thought. It was so... in-your-face with its messages, and they were conveyed with such poorly-composed songs that I just remember watching it for the first time down in London, after about a week of excitement, and then thinking "well that wasn't worth it". Theme song was rad though. Also, you're absolutely correct in that Sonic is for children. I just don't think he's ever been handled well enough in cartoons to have the same sort of children's education/parental entertainment appeal that a lot of other cartoons managed. SatAM came close with the environmental message, but I couldn't ever imagine it being able to entertain adults (who weren't already Sonic fans).

On the other paw, when I discovered the show was on, I would fake being sick just so I could stay home from school and watch it. They could have gotten better singers, that's for sure. But they're about as cheesy as most kid songs. Though the songs are a guilty pleasure of mine. (Have them in Spanish, German and French no less) Doesn't stop me from re-imagining it. >D Alas, I've yet to try this experiment yet with adults.
