Got it Christmas. Was iffy with it but that completely went away when I actually started playing it. It's genius.
It feels like it's built on a fancified version of the F-Zero GX engine, or at the very least like the physics are the same. That might be part of why I love it.
Also part of why: Idaten blaring on the Shinobi stage. Joe Musashi. Holy [censored].
Shinobi 3 is probably my favorite Genesis game. Doesn't get enough love.
Game plays like a dream. I've been doing the A-class missions since the start and have gotten to the midway of the second section of world tour.

Got this game for Christmas. Really enjoyed playing it, especially being able to go through career mode co-cooperatively (very rare for a racing game - esp. on local play). However, having taken it back home from where we were on Christmas day it's finally revealed itself to be an arse. For some stupid reason, if you don't have a hi-definition TV, the game forces you into letterboxed mode, even if you've already got a widescreen TV. It then locks split screen to horizontal only, so essentially, if two people are playing, you get one third of the vertical height of your TV to see what you're trying to do, as shown here: Unless I'm being really dumb and missing an option either on the game (looked in the options found nothing of use bar a contrast change), or on the PS3 itself (though I didn't have this problem with Lego Batman's split screen), this screen mode is making multiplayer frustrating due to how certain power ups, such as the hot rod engine, as well as certain indicators and bits of text come up so tiny they're almost impossible to distinguish. Really sick of games developers just assuming everyone's using HD. ¬¬ And yes "get a HD TV" is the obvious answer. It's also the more expensive option.

I might be very wrong but is there a "display 60hz mode" on the PS3 settings?
Or you could get a HDMI - VGA/DVI cable. Plug it in to your pc monitor.
As for sound plug the scart in and get a headset or some pc speakers via some splitters and [censored].
Or get a HD TV

They assume everyone's using HD because it's basically standard issue input for any TV made in the last few years, and people would be more pissy if it wasn't supported or support for it was crippled. Can you zoom in with your remote? A lot of tellies can do that too, change aspect ratio. I'd have thought a widescreen would be able to.

So this is good. I think a lot of what I wish were complaints are just me sucking. I'll comment further when I perhaps don't. One thing that does bug me though is that the music tracks are well over a minute long each. The All-Star music restarts the music. Bit peeved that Back in Time (absolute glee when I first heard that) was interrupted by Aiai getting another All-Star, the banana-chomping little git.

Yeah, so. Experienced enough with this to comment.
Initial suspicions weren't just me sucking. The game does pull that Mario Kart Wii bull[censored] of bombarding you with so many items it's difficult to get a flow going. It doesn't help that the items have taken a bump in effectiveness: whereas in the first one they were fairly tame, slowing you down a bit, in this one they send you spinning around three times, coming to a dead stop. It's really put me off playing the game, honestly.
This one's a more minor complaint, but why is the roster the way it is? Between the two games, we'd have a fairly comprehensive list of characters (minus a few: Ristar, anyone from Streets of Rage, Eternal Champions, to name a few). But for some reason most of the old roster has been uplifted and replaced. It's a shame, I really enjoyed the Chus and Opa Opa especially.
It's still good, don't get me wrong, but I wish kart racers would realise that items should be a supplement rather than a crutch. It really shows in the challenges: I don't even break a sweat on Expert Mode during the Boost Race challenges, because there are no items. I can hardly win a Grand Prix with items on.

It really says a lot when I can beat all the Mario Karts on 150cc and Mirror Mode, yet cannot even qualify on any race above B-class difficulty in this game. We all love to moan about blue shells and rubber-band AI in the MK games, but I'd take that over the TOTAL [censored]ING BULL[censored] in this game any day. Honestly, why is this game so [censored]ing hard?! No, the problem isn't that it's hard; it's that every loss feels unfair due to the weapon balancing being [censored]ing atrocious. And yeah, the roster is a noticeable downgrade from the previous game. There's a lot more doubling-up of franchise characters here. That's understandable in the case of the Sonic characters, but do we really need more than one Space Channel 5 or Jet Set Radio character? I dunno, the first game just felt more balanced in that respect.

On top of that, couple more complaints I forgot to mention: It's glitchy as [censored], especially with regards to the All-Star moves. There are a LOT of times that being in All-Star on a certain segment sends you careering through the floor. Team Fortress sound absolutely nothing like Team Fortress. Rather than "mmph mmph mmph mmph" the Pyro goes "hee hee hee hee", and the Heavy and Spy aren't much better. There's probably a reason the original voice actors (or lines from the game) weren't used, but I'm sure a better job could have been done than this.
Honestly, I think this is like Smash Bros. Brawl: fun, but deliberately obnoxious.
