Simple question. Alien or Aliens.

Alien, for sure. :B It's more horrific. Aliens is much more of an action movie and for me that makes it less terrifying.

Well now, yes because everyone knows what the Alien franchise is! XD (also IMO the AvP films were [censored]... and Resurrection. Ugh.) At the time, it must have been scary. I also have a feeling that most of the cast were kept unaware of the first chestbursting scene, so their reactions Argh, my English! Bloody Czechs! XD are actually genuine. Might have to IMDB that...

Just because I know what an alien is doesn't mean it couldn't be a good film. I know what a zombie is and you still get effective zombie films.

My point is, the scary part of the film relied on surprise.. and now there is none. Also, I was agreeing with you! So nyaah.

Aliens. My cousin made me watch both of them when I was about 8, and I was ok with the first. Aliens scared the hell out of me though. So it wins.
And yeah Mambo, actor-wise, only John Hurt knew what was going to happen in the chest-burster scene.

Alien. Although I will conceed that as a whole movie, Aliens is way better.
But for the horror franchise, the first one's unknown threat was just nailed utterly. Alien wasn't about "big monster coming to kill you", it was about not knowing precisely what it was actually going to do.
The facehugger letting go, the chestburster, the xenomorph's second mouth, capturing people etc. So much stuff no-one expected the first time around. Sure, it was an obvious threat, but the exact nature of the threat went far beyond "you gonna die." Indeed, most of the crew were taken alive by it for further facehugger impregnation once the eggs hatched.
It's the one of the franchise that lives up to its name. Utterly utterly alien to us.
The seque, while a better overall movie, reduced them to pretty much just monster cannon fodder. But to me, Alien is a horror franchise, thus the original wins out.

Aliens is one of the worst films I've ever seen. The first film wasn't anything too great in my opinion, but any and all good qualities it had were entirely absent from the second film.
Aliens is basically James Cameron being James Cameron and thinking that the words "long," "epic" and "good" are entirely synonymous.
I seriously don't get why people like Cameron. I loved Terminator 1 and 2, but other than that, every one of his films has been absolute trash.

Neither, the only good thing between the 2 is Sigourny Weaver, the woman is incredible.

You know, despite Aliens being a film I enjoyed...I do have to kinda agree. Cameron's films are good. I enjoyed True Lies, Aliens and Avatar to certain extents in each case. But aside from Terminator 2 I've never understood the VOINUIBOENUI JAMES CAMERON OH GOD concept that gets flung around by critics, masses and "hardcore" alike.
