The 40 seconds of gameplay looked ok.

Well given the finished product will only have 42 seconds of gameplay, what do you expect?
Still excited for it.

If this game was all cutscenes I'd still buy it.
And yes I'm showing enthusiasm for a game I've seen barely anything of, but I have my reasons:
1. Even the weakest MGS games are still absolutely brilliant and the series has never let me down yet. 2. It's a Big Boss game. Big Boss > Solid Snake.

I'd be the same, I love MGS.
As for who's the better Snake, Solid's the better warrior, but Big Boss is the more relateable character.
Though I have to admit, I don't see myself ever finishing Portable Ops, so I think I'm gonna watch the longplay video of it and leave it at that. It's such a shame it's weighed down with an unnecessary set of mechanics.

Portable Ops is a neat little game and while it does follow up MGS3, nothing that happens is even made reference to or relevant in either MGS4 or Peace Walker. Its storyline feels very spin-offy as if it's expected that not many people will play it.
Peace Walker on the other hand I'd say is probably gonna be a must play before this. Play it on console though, obviously. Best game on the PSP but I cannot overstate the usefulness of a right analogue stick.

I think without the recruiting/starving to death every mission, Portblae Ops would have been great. It just hacks me off how I can't progress the story because my men are busy dying constantly. I just want to be Snake/Raiden/Big Boss, that's genuinely all I ask for in an MGS game.
Peace Walker does look amazing, though. I have it but I just don't like the PSP enough to play on it :/
