So that Sonic the Hedgehog live-action fan film, that has been in the works for a while was finally released today and i've got to say that it is really not that bad. It's worth a look at the very least if only for hearing Jaleel White voice Sonic again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtCtQpclpY8

Posting impressions as I go through. Nice ring and chaos emerald cgi Holy crap those Egg Carriers are ripped straight from the Dreamcast. I mean its not like the Sonic 06 Egg Carrier hasn't been ripped. Wow those Gammas. Nope. Impressive CGI on those people. Almost life like. Ok that is kinda cool. The president kinda looks like the one from Sonic Adventure 2/Shadow. [censored]ING JULIAN? JULIAN? The actual [censored]? Oh wow the AVGN. I wonder if he is going to review this later? Oh no. They ripped the Robotnik model from Sonic 06 and gave him a shave. I knew Jaleel White was Sonic once. I didn't like it then and I dont like it now. I think that kinda was a homage to the Sonic Adventure intro. The running between the trees. And we now see the back of Sonic's head rendered in what can only be described as mange. Nope. Blue Blur nope. Nope. Nope. Go on Gamma kill the human brutally before Sonic appears and that human inevitably becomes Sonic's buddy. Scratch that the amount of shrapnel that just came out should do the trick. Oh. It didn't. I don't know which is worse Sonic Adventure's lip sync or this. What the [censored] with the propaganda? It should just be Robotnik maniacally laughing. So wait... Robotnik rules the world? YES! TORTURE IN A SONIC MOVIE! Oh wow its the jigsaw killer. Now its 4 humans. This now feels like Sonic X. We are 9 minutes in and theres only been about a minute and a half of Sonic. Also that haircut isn't military! And we have the first half cute lady in the movie. "Shut it!" Ooooo you're dominant. Its the birds from pandemic! Wait they have wings and rocket boosters... actually that was the case in Sonic 1 wasn't it? MEGA DRIVE SOUND EFFECT GO! OH MY GOD its actually PACMAN! And he has just flirted with the cutish lady. Oh [censored]. Wow, I guess I'm use to his Unleashed drift when he moves around a corner. MOTOBUGS! Well now its just a 10/10. No. Missiles dont work like that. I think the Sonic model is actually falling apart as he sits on that missile. Kinda amazed at how slowly Sonic moves through the air. Sonic 4 physics? So the South Islanders are a race? I just dont know anymore. He could just [censored]ing say he is a 4 foot tall blue talking hedgehog. But no. Cheap racism pop! Wow. That Robotnik costume looks terrible. I think it would work if it was leather. Sonic Advance 3 intro! Filmed in middle earth! And we see a CGI Green Hill Zone. And Sonic running around it looks about 15 times better than the real life things. Oooo Knuckles... and he's got fingers... and dark forboding! [censored]ing EGORAPTOR was in this as a voice? But Game Grumps has shown he doesn't like Sonic. Not even the good ones. I think he might be the voice of Knuckles. Didn't recognise the Nostalgia Critic. Its like a whos who of the internet celebrity word!
Thats quite bad. I could get behind a "dark" Sonic story but this is awful.

CGI left a lot to be desired. Lack of shadows, effects on surroundings and sudden switch between real and CGI enviroments made the whole thing very jarring. Pacing was all over the place, just as you were settling into one pace it changed tack.
Much of the acting was pretty crap, though exactly two actually performed convincingly. One of them, crucially, was the guy playing "Julian" himself, in spite of a rather disastrous decision from the costume department he just about managed to pull it off with considerable menace. Guy With Helmet from the four GUN soldiers in the middle of the film was the only other good actor in there. Of the other three, the Guy and Woman Without Helmet(s) were passable, whereas Woman With Helmet was atrociously wooden. What a shame that it was ultimately the latter with the most lines.
As for Sonic himself, animation was not of a convincing standard, it looked very much like an early test (though then again the whole project sort-of is on the whole), in relation to Urkel's reprising his role, I'm disappointed to say his voice really hasn't aged well. At best the personality is still there to a degree, but even then it was clearly a rusty performance due to his being out of the role for so long.
Oddly enough, and I really can't explain why, I rather enjoyed it. It's clearly of a B-Movie standard, yet in a weird way it engaged me, despite all its shortcomings. I will accept this as an experimental thing, and show appreciation for the effort the team put in to making this happen. I won't be calling for any sort of encore any time soon, however.
EDIT: Just looked back at the credits, and recognised a few "Internet" names. [censored] me, no wonder the acting was terrible.

Hearing Jaleel White voice Sonic again was pretty much the only aspect of the film I actually enjoyed.

I liked it for the most part. The one thing that kind of put me off was Sonic's mouth.

I actually enjoyed that, was pretty cool. Sonic riding the Motobug, and Buzz Bomber was good.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but it was pretty decent. Not as terrible acting as I expected from everyone, Robotnik was nice and hammy.
I'm pretty sure I've never heard Jaleel White voice Sonic and I'm glad. I hear it's not the same anymore but by jingo he's awful.
I'm also pretty sure I've never heard Kintobor pronounced like that, but I might be in the minority.
Eh, not bad. Sonic's model was awful, though. Who the hell designed that?

Cool opening sequence, I guess.. started watching it and the OH eyeballed me like I had just said something disputing his mother's honour... So I've watched it in chunks. My thoughts: Wait, "Kin-tober", as in rhyming with October... what?! Was I the only one who read it as "Kin-toe-bore"?! Also, I know it's a guy in an Eggman costume but he looks like his gross Sonic '06 version. *shudders* As for Jaleel White voicing Sonic again - eeeh, sure it's all 90's and that (how the hell did they get him to agree to this anyway?!) but it's obvious in his voice that he is around 20 years older. I guess seeing the name gets a squee out of the old timers like myself, but it doesn't sound the same. The acting is kinda allright, for a fan film. I'll give em that. It's pretty obvious that a lot of effort went into it, but it does stink of low budget, bad SciFi... oops, sorry.. SyFy channel films. Knuckles has tiny hands. Sacrilege!

I did like Robotnik in this. But then again everyone seems to like a half decent villain nowadays. (I did actually like his Sonic 06 version btw)
Everything else is just meh. Theres no real meat here. It fails being a demo of what a Sonic/Real World movie would be like because the CG is so bad AND there is barely any Sonic in it AND you really need to be a fan of at least 3 or 4 different Sonic universes to get most of it.

I haven't seen it yet. However. For those complaining about it, I'll simply leave you with Ken Penders' Lost Ones Trailer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=quGiiAeCyjoBy comparison, I'm finding what they did in the Sonic Fan Film to be a work of staggering genius.

The animation is pretty bad, the sound effects are bad, the acting is generally bad (except Robotnik himself who is weirdly decent), the dialogue is cheesy as hell... so how the hell did I enjoy that?

Just watched it, for what is was it was alright I suppose, they probably should not have tried to mesh live action with cgi.

Mambo I also read it as Kin-to-bore mainly because he was a bore or not, mostly not, I have to saying hearing it in the Fan film was a bit odd that said I realised that people called HydroCity (hi-dros-city) not (Hydro City) or Metallix (Met-all-ix) not (Metal-lix) or Ristar (Ris-Tar) not (Rye-Star) pretty much everything I read as a kid it seems I was pronouncing wrong.

I pronounced Metallix as you would "metallics". Since that makes sense.
I always pronounce Kintobor "Kin-Toe-Brr", but that may be wrong. After all, I pronounced Robotnik "R'botnik" for a while thanks to the Channel 4 continuity woman.

As much as this thing is awful, I don't understand why people are surprised/annoyed that a human playing Robotnik looks like a game model of Robotnik specifically designed around actual human proportions.
Did you expect them to cast an actual human being that's mostly made out of circles?

Oh no, I wasn't surprised - that's why I said I knew it was a guy in an Eggman costume. But I still felt a little... uurrgh...

The problem is, the classic Robotnik costume looks silly on a real-person guy - which wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't played as a straightforward sinister menace who says things like "they're extinct. I made sure of that" in calm tones.

So. I watched this whole thing.
.......my only response to it is that you need to go into it thinking that this was done in the 80s.
When you have that mind set, everything becomes easier to tolerate in it. Though, you do have to give them respect for effort. Getting Jaleel White on cast, you have to give them respect for sticking to the original Sonic voice. If any, and the ONLY thing.

For the benefit of the Facebookless, I actually just realised what this is: it's basically fanfiction.net if they had a film budget. Well now we know the outcome of that experiment, let us never do it again.
