Another year, another "I'm not going to be around when it's on" response. *le sigh*.

Unless it's by some magic coincidence the exact same weekend I'm already going to be in London next month, not very likely at all.

They haven't announced a date yet. It's always June/July/times I'm not around. And perhaps worse, in places difficult for me to get to.

I'm going to run my own SoS, but instead of it being about Sonic, it'll be about sausages. Everyone will be all "but wer r d sawnik" and I'll be all "SOSIJ".
What happens at SoS anyhoos?

I'll be there, pestering Nigel Dobbyn, being a laut and being an overall pain in the arse. But yeah, I go more for meeting people from here rather than seeing someone like Yuji Naka or Izuka. Moo: SoS has had Crush 40 playing a couple of times, contests and cos-play, merchandise, new games to play and new stuff announced. Interestingly, the biggest pull has always been the free sketches from Nigel Dobbyn. We've always sat next to him, so STCO gets some attention via proximity.

Moo: SoS has had Crush 40 playing a couple of times But try not to hold that against the event. SoS last year was brilliant. Will be nice to hopefully spend a bit more time chatting with the STC-O crew this year. Last year I tried to squeeze in a bit of everything so I didn't make the time for a proper chat. Anyway, Moo, last year's events, as I remember, included: Nigels K and D in attendance doing sketches for people, members the STC-O team showing off artwork for upcoming strips, some people who were, bizarrely, sat at the comics area despite their only claim to fame being artists on dA (though one of them was properly brilliant), overpriced and underwhelming merchandise, an art contest, a Sumo Digital Q&A session, Takashi Izuka doing a Q&A session, altogether too much Crush 40, a music-dancey thingy, a comedy quiz thing, chilli dogs and other expensive food and some funny fan animation things. Overall it was a really brilliant day, the best day out I've had. My only gripes are that it being on two floors meant I couldn't, say, enjoy the quiz while queueing for the Nigels; there was a preposterous lack of seating; and there was an enormously heavy focus on Crush 40. I don't doubt that two of those three are related to the last minute change of venue so couldn't be helped but, yeah, seriously, Crush 40 are not very good and they got a Beatles-esque reaction. Discuss. Also, a not insignificant amount of ponies at a Sonic event. I mean, yeah, like what you want, I'm open to that, and I'm well aware there's massive room for overlap between the two fandoms. Just don't come shilling pony art at a SONIC fan convention and then be surprised when you get funny looks off me.

I wouldn't mind coming along this year if my finances can handle it; it wouldn't feel right not being there when it's STC's 20th (not that SoS is likely to recognise that, but hey, I go more to see you guys than for the whole Sonic thing). I just hope registration is not going to fall on a day when I'm away this year.

Crush 40 are not very good and they got a Beatles-esque reaction. Discuss. I'm sure nobody will mind if I rant about Senoue for a moment. I thought his output was fantastic up until SA2. Sonic Adventure, while really rawk (which I like), did a fantastic job of combining that with the feel of the old Mega Drive games. It really felt like an update, and Open Your Heart still gets me excited after all these years. The other vocal themes are really out of place and I don't understand why they became a staple, but eh, they're all still alright. Sonic Adventure 2 marked the point where it just became "chugga chugga chugga" on the guitars and sounded nothing like Sonic music (with the possibly exception of Metal Harbour). All the non-Senoue stuff sounded off as well: Supporting Me is an incredible song, but simply put in the wrong game. Live and Learn was great as well, but all the other vocal themes were grating and this is the point where I was like "alright, pack that [censored] in". They didn't, and since then Crush 40's only good output has been Un-Gravitify, which was in a [censored] game anyway so who cares. But then Senoue seems to get the music director job for a lot of games, and his attitude shines through. A lot of Generations mixes are lacking bass or drum impact (Run Through the Speed Highway and Planet Wisp in particular), and I feel it works to the detriment of the songs. They're still good, don't get me wrong, and his Seaside Hill mix transitioning into Ocean Palace still gives me a bit of a nostalgia-stiffy, but Colours proved that you need more than just guitars in Sonic music and I think he needs to remember that. ANYWAY WHO GIVES A [censored] Ponies can [censored] off. Why on earth would you rock up at a Sonic convention with My Little Pony gear?

so you must be shaymay its nice to meet you .... Anyway. I like Crush 40. And pretty much the majority of the vocal Sonic themes. Who gives a [censored] if they're cheesy guitar [censored] nonsense? It's a Sonic game. No-one's looking for the next classic of our age - just something fun that goes well with a cutscene of the game it's in and ideally a final boss fight too.

Time for the annual 'Fen comes out of the floorboards' natter. I'm one of the usual cosplayers (though not certain if I'll do so this year) and since the second year that's been a regular feature. That's one of my fave parts, if I must admit. You can hide behind a mask AND get attention, then vanish by losing the wig lol. Not a huge fan of Crush40, but I don't mind them. I can stay in a room while people are enjoying them, but I keep to the back because every year the music is far too loud for my hearing. Also last year (I think?) I got free merch from the con/expo/thing next door XD; Mostly I go because (most) people tend to enjoy themselves and just be good company, and as much as I dislike children, it's really nice when you see them there enjoying themselves too. So basically- I like it, am glad it's a single day convention (usually), usually wish there were more chairs, and cheaper refreshments. But I try to go all the time as my friends go, or work on it, or display at it and so on I just wish they'd get on with announcing the damn date so I can book time off if I need to

1) Please try and avoid double-posting where you can. 2) This forum is fairly quiet, there won't be an update every half-hour or so. Sometimes we go a whole day without an update!

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZz*snort* Ehh, what? What's that dear... someone posted?! Us old people need our rest, yknow! Anyways, yeah... it is quiet here, and this SoS business is just a teaser right now, so there won't be much to say as yet. I was just kinda yeeey about it as I wanted to see what the STCO folks were up to! Nosey get that I am... ;p Feel free to start discussion elsewhere on the forum, but do bear in mind that it doesn't update as much, as Shay said... and stuff...

I just hope registration is not going to fall on a day when I'm away this year. We could let the SOS staff know it's STC's 20th, (I don't know how much impact this will have, shrugs) and we could bring some previews of artwork for the 20th issue special. As long as I get a ticket I should be there though my finances are a lot, lot tighter this year. Well, I won't be buying anything if it's just overpriced official merch again. The main reason I go is to hang out with the STC-O team anyway If it's in London (closer than Brighton for me) and I have enough money I'll try and attend any afterparty going down as I've never been able to before.

Come on now, don't post stuff like that to the new guy. :/ Snow, appreciate the enthusiasm but try and post something relevant to the conversation please. We could let the SOS staff know it's STC's 20th, (I don't know how much impact this will have, shrugs) and we could bring some previews of artwork for the 20th issue special. If the guys haven't done so already then yes yes yes! Do it! Judging by the sprites on the teaser I'd reckon they're planning something for Sonic CD's 20th too, but still... STC/O's 20th at SoS?! Great idea!
