Which is better? Sonic Adventure or SA2: Battle? I myself think that although the graphics are far more superior in SA2, the storyline and gameplay must be better in SA. Think about it, in SA, Sonic returns from a long journey to find Eggman has released Chaos. In SA2, the military has mistaken Shadow for Sonic... hmmm... now I'm visually impaired, that's why I have glasses, but I could still tell the difference between a hedgehog that is blue and one that is black, can't you? Even Amy fell for it, but said "That black hedgehog?" when Sonic was imprisoned (before Metal Harbour level). The music is better in SA, especially Windy Valley (LOVE IT!), and the fact they changed the band for the new game doesn't excuse the fact that the old band in SA rocked hard! Especially the opening scene (which is the best opening sequence for any game ever I think!) Some parts of SA2 are not solid. Like, why would Knuckles smash the Master Emerald again? Why not team up with Sonic to find them? Or go alone? It would have been a better story if Knuckles and Rouge formed an "alliance" and you saw how even though they hated each other they managed to get along in a comical sort of way. Tails... sweet innocent let's-point-out-the-obvious (I must help Amy because she is in danger) Tails. Bad fox for using robot!!! I'm not knocking the game, I myself have bought not only the Dreamcast original, but the Gamecube version also, because I love Sonic games, but to me, SA2 was done in a bit of a hurry it seems, just so it would come out on his tenth anniversary. Someday, I hope to be designing top-notch Sonic Games, not only with excellent gameplay (no grinding... grinding is evil! And bring back the chharging up for the Light Speed Dash, and the Light Speed Attack glow, not frilly balls hovering around like in SA2), but with a solid story plot, with loads of twists and excellent soap opera potential! I hope you don't hate me for saying this but to me, SA2 seemed inferior to SA, and therefore must be redone to a better story. Otherthan that... great game. lol

You have to be more clear here. You're referring to the original Dreamcast version of Sonic Advanture, but the port of SA2 Battle on Gamecube. It would be unfair to distinguish graphics on a platform that is twice as powerful as the DC, but I would agree that SA2 on Dreamcast did have better graphics than its prequel, aside from Emerald Coast ;D. I ask for clarity as well because Sonic Adventure DX on Gamecube has better graphics than SA2 Battle too, even though they're on the same platform .

I know this is heracy, but I muched prefered SA2, the sonic and shadow levels where far better than the sonic/tails levels on SA.
The Tails/eggman levels, where better than that of E102, as there was more platforming, it felt like a slower sonic level and the level was thought of before the character, rather than "how can we make this sonic level into a tails one" they made it just for them.
Also the Knux/Rouge levels did suck, but nothing compared to the abismal Big levels.
Sure its not the best starting point, but as it goes on their are more twists and turns, rather than trying to answer the old questions, it is a storyline you can take on its own. and the bit about mistaking shadow for sonic, you might if you lived in a world full of humans and the only talkling hedgehog YOU've heard of is sonic.

I fully agree with you, Harry, on every point. And a good set of points they are .

Sonic Adventure DX on Gamecube has better graphics than SA2 Battle too, even though they're on the same platform . Erm...have to disagree with you there. The new ripply water effects are gorgeous, and the levels and backgrounds are arguably better, but Sonic and co are all... glowy. It looks like they've been dipped in radioactive paint or something.

It looks like they've been dipped in radioactive paint or something. I guess that could be down to opinion, but regardless of whether you like the realistic(ish) shininess on their fur, you have to agree, a lot more detail has gone into them than on SA2 Battle. More polygons, more textures... etc.

One of the things that I most hated about sonic adventure was that sonic opened his mouth and had all these fangs and it just looked...wrong...
I prefer Sonic Adventure 2
- Better Bosses (biolizard, egg golem) - The low points weren't quite so low (big the cat...arrgh) -There was no horrible world map type stage - The chao garden mode had a better variety of races, and chao karate.
There are other points but im not in deep thought mode.
Oh and that music in windy valley, thats taken from one of the sonic 3D levels im sure.
One major point that makes sonic adventure better though is that it has a NiGHTS pinball table ;D ;D

Just as long as they get rid of that "double-tap" glitch. You know, you press one button and it reacts as if you pushed it twice? That sucks...
AND NO FISHING!

Just as long as they get rid of that "double-tap" glitch. You know, you press one button and it reacts as if you pushed it twice? That sucks... AND NO FISHING! The solutiojn to that is so simple you'll go mad. Hold down B whilst your Gamecube is starting up SA2 Battle to be confronted with the option to display in 50Hz or 60Hz mode. 50Hz is the default for PAL TVs, but if your TV is 60Hz compatible, select that. Not only will the screen now refresh quicker, making fast games look better, but it will also fix that bloody glitch. It does falter on static images though, but whereas 60Hz is better at moving images whilst letting static images down, 50Hz is better at static images than moving ones.

its a tough one but i'd have to say SA. SA2 is great, but the swapping between characters really annoyed me. you'd be speeing along with sonic or shadow, then you'd have to slow right down as tails or someone. plus, the good and bad guys levels were too similar. the graphics are better, and city escape has to be one of my fave levels ever. in its defence, I think the final battle in space is better than perfect chaos. the music is great on both, but SA wins ( apart from live and learn which is one of the best sonic songs ever) because I can't stand knuckles music, rouge's is just not my cup of tea, tails, eggman's and shadow's is hit and miss. only sonic's is the best. where as on SA, all the music apart from Amy's theme, is amazing.
it also has an opening movie to die for, and when I first got it, the dreamcast had only just come out and there'd never been anything like it before.

Sonic Adventure was the reason I stopped getting StC. I felt left behind when Dreamcast came out, StC stepped up to match it, and I was left behind. I had to wait until 2002, after the DC had stopped production, to get mine. I agree though - I was transfixed by that intro. Open Your Heart was also my all-time fave Sonic tune until I was thrown away by Team Dark's theme for Sonic Heroes.

I decided to hold back on getting 'Sonic Heroes: Triple Threat' after I saw the tracklisting. It has all 5 themes on it, and then some re-released / remixed tracks from previous games. The total number of tracks is only about 10. Not really worth it, IMO.

I'll likely still buy it just for the hell of it. I have £320 burning a hole in my pocket. ;D
The only other OSTs I have are the SA2 birthday box one, and the SA2 OST. I NEED OSTs! Having said that, my Sonic Playlist is 5 and a half hours. Much blinking is involved.

Am I the only one who actually liked Big's fishing levels on SA? I know that it's totally not what a Sonic game is about, but...it wasn't bad. What does annoy me is how slow moving Big is in SA, compared to his incredible feats of acrobatics in Heroes. I can't see how ppl can say "the opening to Sonic Adventure is the BEST FMV EVER!" Have you not seen Final Fantasy VIII, or Resident Evil on GC? Also, somebody said that the GC is twice as powerful as the DC. I'd check your facts...

Yeah, I liked Big's levels. I often pay a visit to Emerald Coast when a bit wound-up, it's a surprisingly potent method of chilling out I don't think anyone ever said SA's opening was the best ever. Certainly I didn't. I said it was amazing and it totally stunned me back then. It still holds up well now, too but the Resi remake intro did indeed kick not a small amount of backside .
