Now that we've seen Sonic Heroes, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that they would like to see implemented in the next 3D Sonic game? Here are a few questions to get us started (along with my answers, of course ): - Should the game be called Sonic Adventure 3 or Sonic Heroes 2?Sonic Adventure 3. Sorry, but Sonic Heroes still sounds like a breakfast cereal or something. - Should adventure fields be brought back?Yes. - What characters should be playabale in the game?Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, of course. Hopefully, Shadow, Rouge and Omega also will be playable. I'd love to see Nack the Weasel make a return as well, and Espio would be good as a lone character. Lastly, they could just dump Team Rose and Team Chaotix together again as they are the remaining characters. Mighty could replace Espio as Chaotix's speed character, after of course going through some re-design to not make him just look like Sonic in darker colours. They'd all be part of the same detective agency, but Espio would be off following a different case, which would end up with the two cases blending together by the end of the game. - Should characters share the same, fast-paced Sonic Heroes-style of gameplay, or should there be a mixture of game styles like in the Sonic Adventure games? This is how I'd do it: Speed – Sonic, Tails, Shadow Hunting – Knuckles, Nack Stealth – Rouge, Espio Shooting – Omega Teamwork – Team Rose, Team Chaotix - Should characters all share the same levels, or should they each have unique levels (eg. Sonic Adventure 2)?Most levels could be shared, although some could also be unique to specific characters. - What should the main plot be about? Not sure yet, although I'd like to see them come up with something original for a change. - Are there any new ideas for level types that you would like to see included?A Matrix Revolutions-esque nightclub would be pretty cool.

Well, them be some dang purty thoughts you got yerself thar. ;D I'd also like to see a return of the Adventure Fields, despite the fact I don't think that many people actually liked them. Just as long they'd be PROPER Sonic - i.e. you talk to Mobians, not humans. It'd be nice if the plot didn't involve going into space for a change. One of my major beefs with Sonic Advance 2 is that the level concepts were brilliant - either having no precedent in the Sonic universe (Music Plant, Techno Base) or being a clever spin on an old theme (Ice Paradise, Hot Crater) - until Egg Utopia, which was just S&K Death Egg crossed with Final Rush. The world map even showed it was ANOTHER satellite with Robotnik's mug on it, for cripes' sake. Mind you, from what I gather there's no space-trekking in Heroes, unless I'm very much mistaken. One thing I think is absolutely definite is no new characters. We've got tons of the things now, let's use them! And bring back Nack! And maybe Ray too, just for kicks. I like the nightclub idea - I see that as a Shadow or maybe Knuckles level personally. Can't really see Cream fitting in that sort of place. Main plot - I dunno. It's harder to have ideas in the SegaSonic universe, since that's not as clearly defined. Terrorist attacks? Natural disasters? *shrugs* I think that's it. ;D P.S. Did you get that 'breakfast cereal' gag off NGC or is it my imagination?

Totally agreed. The space station/flying fortress idea has been done to death, and it's time for something new. I wonder what type of level they could use to end the game next time? Shadow in that type of level would F'N rule! I was thinking earlier - maybe they could turn the Techno Base from Sonic Advance 2 into a nightclub like the one I mentioned earlier? LOL at the Cream comment. ;D Rubbish! I have no idea what you're talking about.

Well, maybe just a bog-standard Robotnik base like Metropolis or Final Egg. Then again...maybe a classic level? Like, say, Emerald Hill that's been overrun with badniks? Or something with an everpresent danger, like a crumbling cityscape or something. The thing is, after all this space malarkey it's hard to think of a location to end the game that would have appropriate impact. Adventure cheated by having the last story be all based around a boss. I do think there's some mileage in the city idea. Imagine a Speed Highway-alike being devastated by...well, whatever, and Sonic blasting through it. Nifty.

god, please no matrix-like levels. if I see one more matrix/LOTR rip-off or influenced anything, i'll scream.
and as for the adventure field: NO! it turned sonic from a fast paced platformer to a slow moving RPG.

Speed – Sonic, Tails, Shadow
Hunting – Knuckles, Nack Stealth – Rouge, Espio Shooting – Omega
Teamwork – Team Rose, Team Chaotix
Sorry, but hunting stages... Big no no... Same for teamwork, too confusing...
Stealth is a nice idea with Rouge's climbing and Espio's camoflague.
I reckon Shadow will be the Badniks. Get what I mean? At the end of Team Darks story, a la Sonic Heroes, Omega destroys the lab filled with Shadow clones. What if they survive, but pre-strengthened, one hit killed like normal badniks or robots. Sonic Team, take notes, I rule!

Dude I havent played the game yet! Use a spoiler line!
I would like to see these individual things.
1) More Sonic VS Eggman 1 on 1 things, likeit always used to be, on the mega drive.
2) The oppurtunity to play as Super Sonic again in normal levels.
3) Put it back on Mobius.
Cant think of anything else right now, and my head hurts from the fanatics boss riddle.

You know what I think might be good? Sonic and ShadowYou alternate play between Sonic and Shadow whenever you see fit (they're both on screen)or 1 player can control Sonic and another can control Shadow in co-operative play, they can perform combos to get rid of enemies, it's set on Mobius, not Earth, and they fight a whole army of Metallixes, including Metal Sonics, Metal Knuckles, Tails Dolls, Metal Shadows and new Super Metallixes. Action spans over 50 levels, including a few redesigned retro stages (eg. Emerald Hill, Flying Battery), a whole host of unlockable features and it'd be on Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox. ....Well I thought it was a good idea.

Or a Sonic 2 style Sonic in the lead, Tails up the rear, but with Shadow following Sonic.

hmm let's see I think it should be called sonic adventure 3. I agree with you danbaxter it sounds rubbish if it was sonic heroes 2.
i agree as well adventure fields should be brought back, on sonic adventure dx I make up my own storylines by running around the adventure fields and levels.
the characters in the game should be, sonic, tails, knuckles, shadow, rouge, omega, a metal sonic that has decided to go against robotnik, just like omega and gamma, i'd also like it to have the old sonic game feature where you could after collecting all chaos emeralds go into super form after collecting 50 rings. i'd also like to see in it nack the weasel, the chaotix crew, maybe amy, but not big or cream. all of the chaotix crew, including mighty. and some stc characters. and this time no team work like on sonic heroes make it like sonic adventure dx and sonic adventure 2 battle mixed together. oh and it could also have manic and sonic from sonic underground
the gameplay should be like it was on sonic adventure dx and sonic adventure 2 battle.
the characters should have different levels like it was on sa2 battle and sonic adventure dx.
for the plot, I don't know yet but hopefully a good storyline not like sonic heroes, but like in sonic adventure dx they each have their own storyline which then leads up to a last chapter you can unlock after completing every character.
for new ideas for level types on adventure fiels this time you can enter more buildings and go on top of the sky scrapers b climbing with knuckles, running up them with sonic, and flying up them with tails and so on, so forth also this time make adventure fields bigger

hmm, i'd like to see Sonic Adventure 3, but with more differences. Now, there are so many characters they can choose from with different abitilities, but you can guarantee they'll choose Tails, Knuckles, Cream, Amy, probably some sort of robot, and no doubt Rouge, and come up with a knew character thats a 50 50 shot of being good or bad. now, its not that I don't like them, and its hard to imagine a game without tails and knuckles now, but what about Chaotix? they've been in SH, so lets see more of them, including Mighty. I'd also like to see Nack, and Shadow again of course. But its also a good opportunity to make the games different, not like SA2 where Sonic and Shadow, had the same, etc etc. NJow with a good story plot and plenty of stuff to do, new challenges and so forth, it would be a fantastic game.

You know what? That actually wouldn't be a bad idea. Just imagine a Station Square-like city being annihilated by an army of Shadow clones, with Sonic having to fight his way through before the entire city is destroyed. Now that would be ace!

I think that to bring sonic games back to their previous greatness a closer look needs to be taken at the way the megadrive games worked. I know that the path to perfection means change and improvement rather than just trying to emulate the past but the point is improvement. They first need to get a working 3D style model of the old games and then expand upon it rather than take the path their currently treading. So what is it about the old games that needs to be inlcuded? 1) Yeah everybody says this, Super Sonic in his old 'get the emeralds, get 50 rings and double jump' glory. The problem here lies in the fact that the designers already try and make it so that sonic travels as fast as the console can take it or that you could feasible control within the level anyway. Basically if you took the current levels and made sonic go like twice as fast youd be jiggered. Solution: Flight, If when turning super you could take off then the problems of fixed paths wouldn't matter. Direction of movement could be controlled with the analogue stick while movement could be given by pressing and holding 'A' (or the ps2 or Xbox action button) like an accelerator. Automatic targets could then lock onto other enemeys which you could blast by pressing some other button. (using the STC style eye lasers ) 2) Multiple paths In all the old games in the levels there were always multiple paths, if you were skilled enough you could hit all the platforms, springs etc and stay up the top. Or as a result of not being so good you could take the middle or even bottom areas. This is lacking in the 3D games, I know it comes into affect here and there but not throughout the whole level. It's certainly add variety to playing. Problem: The vertical placement of overhead paths doesnt really suit a 3D viewpoint. Solution: Umm... You got me Maybe multiple paths placed sideby side which just take more skill to get to. 3) yeah I can say more, but i'm tired of typing so see you all later

Now, I should be compelled to declaim that if I was implanted into a situation where I was compelled to identify a sole, individual flaw that critically undermined the Sonic Adventure duology, I would associate it with the complementary architecture of each game's environment... specifically, the abominable, despicable, intolerable, horrendous, wretched, infuriating, exasperating presence of HUMANS! For squat, anthropomorphised and multi-hued mammals (and one reptile and insect) to be associating themselves with emaciated Marks & Spencer shop mannequins, to my appreciation, almost corrupted the entire potency of the games for me. Therefore the constituency any new Sonic title that I would propose would constitute incorporating a mechanism that would transport our renowned assortment of characters back to their true realm, Mobius! TITLE[/u] Although I concur with your derision of a title such as Sonic Heroes II, my vision of a further game would not be described as Sonic Adventure III, but rather Sonic the Hedgehog IV, augmented by a subtitle such as Conquest, or Revenant. This is because my intention of involving Mobius once more would associate the game with the continuity of the original tetrology ( Sonic the Hedgehog I, II, III and Sonic and Knuckles) and the subtitle would be indicative of the nature of the game itself. A title such as this would hopefully also introduce some juvenile games-players to the glorious procession of Sega's back-catalogue! PLOT and LEVEL DESIGN[/u] (Quite extensive, I realise... I became quite involved in it!) Although I have never surveyed Sonic X, the plot for this new title would incorporate an element of this animation series's plot into the Sonic Adventure continuity, arguing that Dr. Robotnik ( never Eggman... I could never abide that odious moniker), Sonic, Tails, et al were inadvertantely transported to Earth, and did not always reside there (although confessedly some extreme narrative gymnastics would be required to explain Prof. Gerald Robotnik and the Floating Island away!). Having been quashed in another spectacularly sensational and humiliatingly public manner with the devastation of ARK, Dr. Robotnik has gradually devloped an extreme antipathy to Earth, where his nefarious schemes and maleficient plots are even more catastrophic failures than those at Mobius, and resolves to develop a device that shall translate himself to the simple dominion of the original Sonic-world once again. However, there is one minor, yet infuriatingly persistent factor, preventing his achievement of this... the fact that Dr. Robotnik has been detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure for the petty offence of threatening to degenerate an appreciably estensive proportion of the Western Hemisphere to the constiuency of molten slag. Desperate to stave away the horrific, atrocious notion of a final, absolute defeat and the eternal threat of the gallows, Dr. Robotnik thus commences tempting his gaolers with vastly-inflated, yet astoundingly enticing and succulent, tales of a rich and propitious realm that would be almost absurdly simple to subjugate and would constitute a vast welt of resources and labour that would resolve all of Earth's own endemic woes of pollution, poverty, famine, fuel depletion, and so forth. Gradually, lubricated commendably effective diplomatic convolutions conducted by Robotnik in which he graudally infiltrates tendrils of corruption throughout every government delegation with which he consorts with, the planet's association of Great Powers commence becoming more amenable to this proposal of invasion, and Dr. Robotnik, formerly incarcerated and universally reviled is now elevated to the status almost of the world's most eminent living being as he is granted vast funding, labour and laboratories to evolve his portal device. Sonic and his compatriots are absolutely, incorrigibly consumed by revulsion by Robotnik's new ascendancy, and when they publically announce their condemnation and loathing of his programme they - celebrated as the planet's saviours scarce months before - are abruptly cast into the grime-smeared ruins of global censure as a rabid public abruptly seizes upon them and lambasts them for attempting to suppress the restoration of Earth. Retreating into the wilderness to evade the negative attentions of vicious lynching mobs, the group resolve to destroy Dr. Robotnik's programme and expend several of the game's levels assaulting his facilities that are dispersed throughout the planet, in the obligitory breadth of geographical situations so that we may appreciate the traditional ice level, desert level, et cetera. The group, as well as legions of dedicated soldiers and lethal G.U.N. mechanoids, must also surmount their own internal divisions as many amongst them desire a return to Mobius and so, to a degree, sympathise with Robotnik's goal. Despite their endeavours, however, they may not prevent the lunatic and corpulent Doctor's activation of the Mobian Gate. International fanfare, however, is suddenly scoured away by a disharmonious, mind-rending wail of anguish as Robotnik - still galled by his earlier defeats - cackles in pleasure at Earth's gullibility and exacts his vengeance with horrific effectiveness - a combination of fusion bombs and badnik armies obliterate several cities and ruthlessly ravage large porportions of the planet. Consumed with fury, a human army is rapidly assembled to pursue Robotnik into Mobius and eliminate him and any inhabitant of the "realm of daemons" - how they now perceive Mobius - that confronts them. Sonic and his companions must conduct a desperate and potentially fatal race to thus both escape to their homeland and eliminate the portal's projection devices to prevent a torrent of humans from hurtling into Mobius. Emerging back onto the blessed soil of Mobius, they discover it to be a world embattled, with Mobian defence militias, professional human armies, and Robotnik's mechanical hordes embroiled in a brutal melée of conflict. The second half of the game is thus involved with the pacification of the three belligerents, throughout the Zones of Mobius, before the final level is illustrated by "The Warp" - absolute pandaemonium reigns supreme in a chaotic vista of insensate lunacy as the [censored]tered humans tumble back into the Mobian Gate whilst Mobians and badniks harry them relentlessly. After an act of plunging through fields churned to mud in the ruin of the human enclave, Robotnik confronts their remnants - and Sonic, of course - within the Warp-gate itself. An apocalyptic confrontation in the Immaterium itself thus ensues, with effects so extravagant and mission objectives so ingeniously diverse as to cause the seventh-generation consoles it shall be powered upon to veritably explode with the processing power they demand. GAME MECHANICS[/u] All characters employ levels in identical environments. However, at the commencement of each action stage you are granted a choice of character to pursue it with - depending on the one you select, different sets of routes (I agree with Nemesis upon the necessity of more than one path being required) are rendered available, with different mission objectives - upon the assumption that all of the characters are attacking simulateneously (e.g. when Sonic's mission in attacking a base is to penetrate its gate, Knuckles is charged with bludgeoning a route though a sewer complex to destory the foundations of the installation's defence turrets so that Sonic is not vapourised on entry.) How would you evaluate this?

Man, you did put some thought into that didn't you? I like it. Ludicrously over-the-top, joyfully improbable AND explains away the whole human thing. I especially like the idea of different characters having different goals/routes through the same level. In a way it brings to mind the Half-Life/Opposing Force/Blue Shift trilogy (well, sort of...a game and two mission packs? Close enough), and the way they gleefully criss-crossed. So, yep. You use words and things good. Me like. (especially that "emaciated Marks & Spencer mannequins" comment ;D) Incidentally, what does your sig mean? I'm presuming it's actual Latin and not made up...

i think a create your own sonic character is an interesting idea(this was an idea from another thread) and get rid of cream and cheese and tone down amy's want for sonic.
and no humans (except robotnik of course) maybe even add a new bad guy (in addition to robotnik but they dont' work together. (bad guy vs bad guy fights)

NO! fancharacters are evil. everywhere I look, there's a red sonic or some such, weilding a sword and is the "chosen one". *sighs* every made up hedgehog i've seen has been the equivalent of 20 sonics, and as a result, I now loathe fan characters. (with the exception of Alex the Hedgehog, who's just plain hilarious.)
and robert, do us all a favour and start speaking in casual english. I mean seriously. whenever I see "Poster by: Robert Frazer" on a page, I either look for a dictionary or just try to skip it. It was fairly amusing the first time I saw you type with immaculate spelling and grammer with the longest words possible. but now it's just tedious. sorry, but that's the truth.

turbo I think u mis understood what I meant. I ment more like haveing kinda emeril where u can change what he looks like and what moves he has I just ment we would have more control over what he/she looks like. not that you can do whatever with this character. and maybe not even have in the main story but for like side things like multiplayer or something.

Anyway, we need a GBA Sonic game that goes back to basics, but allows you to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Nack, Espio and Shadow. I'm only including Shadow as a favour to the fanboys, what with him being a lame character and all. Each character would play the same sort of zones, but eqach characters level would be different if you catch my drift. Same area, different route, ala Sonic Heroes only... not. Aw, I'm lost now. Chaos emeralds would be available through grabbing 50 rings and hitting a starpost, beating the special stage will yield an emerald. Beating two special stages in a level will yield a Super Emerald. Beating three (And getting a PERFECT on all three) will yield a Perfect Emerald. This gives leeway for three forms, Super, Hyper, Perfect. Each character has all three forms. There are three acts per stage. The first act has a miniboss ala S3 & K, the second has a character-specific miniboss, the third has a battle with Eggman. There are 8 stages, each one different and interesting (I'd still put in the obligatory casino and ice stages though) Hmm... none of that made any sense...

Some of the ideas posted on here so far have been great - keep up the good work. That is deep. Very deep. Sounds good to me though. I'm sure they could explain the Angel Island scenario well enough - they could say that it has something to do with the power of the Master Emerald, or something along those lines. The 'apocalypse' idea is great, and also refers back to the 'crumbling cityscape' idea for the final level that I posted earlier. Sonic and the others would have to make their way through a disintergrating city within a short amount of time before the warp-gate closes (as well as fighting several thousand Shadow clones along the way, just for fun!). The final boss could take place inside the warp itself, which would somehow result in the total destruction of the Earth (so we no longer have to put up with crappy human characters in Sonic games)and the transportation of Sonic and co. back to where they belong - the Planet Mobius! Well it sounds OK to me.
