Chaos emeralds would be available through grabbing 50 rings and hitting a starpost, beating the special stage will yield an emerald. Beating two special stages in a level will yield a Super Emerald. Beating three (And getting a PERFECT on all three) will yield a Perfect Emerald. This gives leeway for three forms, Super, Hyper, Perfect. Each character has all three forms. no there should only be one form to all these characters. period no super, uber, ultra forms only one which what we get when they get all 7 chaos emeralds.

Blast! I could have posted my "Omochao's revenge" idea here! Other Idea's for future games. Dare I say........................NAZO!! (runs over the hills and far away) What about those weird Bird thingies from Tails Adventure, they'd make pretty decent opponents.

ok here goes:
Sonic Revolutions
plot I would have a game set losly based on the STC Drakon Empire stories.(amid a horde of crys of you all shouting "THEY WOULDNT USE STC CHARACTRS", I relise this im simply stating what sonic game I myself would make)
The first level would of course be in th emerald hill Zone (as all classic sonic games started) and it would play much like a Sonic adventure style version of the zone. yet improved with the sugestions you have all given so far. of having differant paths etc. It would have 3 acts to the zone, as classic and the last act would be a battle against Robotink. How ever as you defeat robotnik insead of him escaping it goes to a cut scene of a Mobius ring appearing and Drakon guards emerging and kidnapping Robotnik.
Next level would be somewhere Robotniks HQ where Sonic has gone to discover what might have happend. but when he gets there he finds Badniks and Drakon warriors fighting it out. He has to go through this stage fighting both Badniks AND Drakon warriors. The end boss of this stage would be a Drakon General who Sonic finds tourchuring one of Robotniks Scientists in the heart of the HQ. After defeating the General Sonic talks to the scientist who telss sonic about the Mobius rings. and where his research had discoverd there might be one.
Next Zone would be a return to another Classic Sonic xone doen over in 3D. The Marble Zone (anchient runins of the Drakon Empire) Sonic fights it out with Drakon warriors who have started to secure the sight. and makes it to a underground hidden chamber where there is a mobius ring. But there is a defencive Robot he must defeat to get to it (this levels boss)
Once defeated Sonic goes to get in the Mobius ring but Knuckles turns up and they enter together.
The rest of the game would take place in various stages on Drakon. where sonic Learns that the Drakons want the emeralds. (which is why Knuckles came along. he had already discoverd that they were after them)
Eventually the Very last level would be against the Drakon Emperor in his palace. Where the emperor has got 6 of the smaller emeralds seen in Sonic 1 and 2.
Playable characters Rather than use the SA system of differant characters for differant levels I would use the Sonic 3 idea of picking a character to play throughout the game. The choice would be simply out of Sonic, Knuckles or Tails.
Depending on the character you chose you would experiance a slightly differant version of the story. Sonic would be as described above. knuckles would start on the Floating island and tell of the drakon guuard attempting to steal the chaos emeralds. Knuckles would fight them off. find out about the Drakons plan and the Marble zone ring from one of them and go to where he meets sonic. From this point Sonic and Knuckles would ocupy teh same levels. Sonic being Knuckles back up but being CPU controlled.
The tails Story line would start with him training amy in fighting skills before noticing a platoon of badniks rusing somewhere. they follow and find them fighting Drakons. They have to fight both to get to Robotniks HQ and arrive just in time to see Sonic wiz off into distence. They get B-plane and head to marble zone. and follow sonic through ring.
in the Tails game play amy would be the same type of character that Tails was in Sonic 2. there. but just follows where ever tails goes. Shooting her crossbow at enmys occashionly.
extras
Special stages would be accesible in the old Sonic 3 way of going through a ring. The Drakons attack has caused the emeralds to return there in their old split into 13 emeralds mode. Sonic can only collect 7 of them (including gray one) as the Drakon emperor stole rest.
The future At the end of the game we see all the emeralds being reforged into their big forms and retuned to the floating island.
but this would only be the first game in a trilogy. all with the Drakon empire as the main bad guys

Speaking of opponents, the Troopers from the original STC (during Robotnik's rule) would be great as in-level enemies IMO.

Please do not butcher me for the length! Before I commence elaborating upon my personal model for the future reinstitution of the most glorious and magnificent Sonic the Hedgehog into his appropriate and most competent and capable realm of Mobius, I should address Samface’s query regarding the constituency of my signature. It was originally intended to be a relatively extensive and sustained torrent of unrelenting vitriol condemning the vile and reprehensible aberration that is the despicable and heinous S*ny, yet unfortunately the confounding curtailed signature character-quotient forbade this paroxysm of righteous fury. And thus my current, briefer signature was substituted for it. Both of the expressions are indeed Latin - “Sapientia Adripit Imperium” represents a maxim I am quite fond of expostulating about, “wisdom seizes dominion”, and shall be instituted as the motto on my Coat of Arms when I am ennobled *Dial on Robert’s Egoism Monitor quivers on “Catastrophic Overload!”* , whereas “Aequitas Excipet Sepulchrem” translates as “Justice comes after the grave”, an observation I stumbled across whilst perusing an Iain Banks novel and I have become quite fond of, because it is ominous and imposing. Now, to reorient the topic about its original function, I have been contemplating the practicalities of my proposed game mechanics, and have opted to draft a sample Action Stage to exemplify it. Could I please receive your comments upon its provenance, objectives, level arrangement, and so forth? It would be much appreciated. ACTION STAGE 02: "GUERILLA GULLY"[/u] (yes, the title is abominable, I realise that...)(N.B. This level is derived from the initial half of the game, when the group are endeavouring to prevent the activation of the Mobian Gate) Provenance: The anthropomorphic party, after eluding the negative attentions of military extermination squads and raving hordes of civilian lynch-mobs for being so audacious as to inveigh against Robotnik's programme of "global salvation", rally their dispersed faculties and contemplate the arduous task of obliterating the doctor's internationally-sponsored project - the Mobian Gate, being activated at an astoundingly complex facility, appropriately bestowed with the title of the Stellar Rubicon, and the multiplicity of resarch laboratories and equipment manufactories, dispersed throughout the entire planet, that supply it. Stellar Rubicon itself is fanatstically and superlatively defended, such that even the typically arrogant Sonic is reticent about the prospect of attacking it directly. However, a small terror raid against its subsidiaries should rouse the world to the sincerity of the group's censure against Robotnik, before Sonic and his companions proceed to 'dismantle' the doctor's initiative globally. A military train - a fearsome prospect, as it veritably constitutes a mobile fortress bristling with ludicrous magnitudes of armaments and absurdly heavily-armoured carriages - is delivering a shipment of uranium fuel rods to power the energy-ravenous machinery constructing the currently incomplete Stellar Rubicon, and although its destruction would certainly not severely damage the project, the duifficultly of the operation would be a powerful indicator of the group's proficiency. The train is duly selected to be ambushed as it wends its path through the slopes of a riven valley, which the rebel anthropomorphs sardonically dub the "Guerilla Gully" Level sketch: Characters that may pursue this level include Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles only. According to the particular charatcer the player deigns to designate as his avatar and protagonist, a different route is available for the player to assume, and at particular segments in the game the path shall braid into various options, as described below. The particular level segments are indicated by the separate bars imposed on the sketch plan above. Continued in the subsequent post... it was too extensive!

Sonic's route: Sonic's level commences when Tails deposits him upon the roof of the rear carriage after the 'assault' section the latter performs (see below). Immkdiately, responding with commendable rapidity, defences turrets streak out of concealment to rake each of them with relentless hails of Gatling-fire, soldiers hastily clamber onto the roof from the interior, and G.U.N. aeronaut drones buzz angrily about the environment in a fashion akin to inflamed wasps. The trains ection is occupied with the bitter attrition of punching a path through these as Sonic and Tails vault along the carriages. After some are passed, however, human reincforcement arrives - an attack helicopter descends and delivers a furious broadside against the carriage Sonic and Tails are situated upon with its cannons. Should Sonic successfully evade this, the helicopter momentarily withdraws and instead unleashes a missile, annihilating the carriage entirely!
Sonic desperately flings himself clear from the blast, and crashes into the forest on the lower slopes, the Forest section thus ensues as the nimble hedgehog lands with a determined sprint, and dashes through the dense vegeatation in a brief section similar to descending the skyscraper in the Speed Highway from Sonic Adventure I, enlivened by tracer fire rending asunder the leaf canopy as the helicopter commences strafing the area indiscriminately.
As Sonic emerges onto the river banks as the valley base, the helicopter re-acquires a visual target and unleashes a further salvo of missiles against our hero. You possess a scant second to react and leap from danger - delay results in Sonic receiving several hundred pounds of concentrated high-explosive travelling at over two hundred miles per hour upon his snout, and instant death. Leaping in one direction causes Sonic to frentically sprint upstream to the cliffs that the train is ascending on the River section, whereas seeking subterranean refuge in a cave complex provides an alternative route to the cliffs - Sonic must battle against collapsing caverns as the helicopter continues pestling the valley with repeated ordnance barrages, and the caves' distinctly irascible natural inhabitants.
Ascending the cliff with the aid of a series of springs requiring precise manoeuvering to navigate, Sonic reaches the cusp of the valley and a fuel depot where Knuckles has disabled the train tracks and halted it - at this point Tails also commandeers a soldier's rocket launcher and vanquishes the exasperatingly persistent helicopter and its pilot with an ably-aimed discharge.
Tails's Route:
Tails's route is similar to Sonic's, but is preceded by the "assault" section, where Tails utilises his astoundingly functional mutation to transport himself and Sonic to the train. This area could be defined as a minature 'Sky Chase' escapade, as the woefully exposed pair struggle to evade inverted deluges of disembowelling shrapnel and the concussion waves from flak-shells ascending from the train's anti-air defences.
When the helicopter devastates a portion of the train, Tails may follow Sonic into the forest - alternatively, because he may fly, if you position him correctly before the missile strikes he catapults into the air and elevates himself over the upper valley slope (evading yet more incessant fire from the inxhaustible magazine of the helicopeter) to the level ground above it. The helicopter departs to concentrate upon Sonic - yet Tails has not been granted a blessed reprieve, as now must trek over horrendously exposed terrain with a company of soldiers mounted in armoured vehicles augmented by obligitory ostentatious cannons roaring and shrieking from the fuel depot to intercept and terminate him...
...after navigating a route through this extended section, Tails reaches the fuel depot where the train has been stymied, and events follow as described in the Sonic tract above.
Knuckles's route:
As Tails cannot abide the additional encumberment of transporting Knuckles (and I implore you, refrain from mentioning Sonic Heroes!), our crimson companion is compelled to adopt a slower overland route, following the track of the train as Sonic and Tails bound ahead. When the pair become unstuck, however, with the helicopter's intervention, Kunckles realises that he must discard his spectator's vision of this mission and actively participate in destroying the train. Bodies, debris and wreckage have been scattered in a morbid and repellent wake behind the train, and Knuckles determines to discover the components for some explosives amongst them. As the train is roaring ahead, this retrieval section is elnlivened by a restrictive time limit and regular sorties by G.U.N. aeronaut drones screaming overhead and prowling about the area menacingly. Once Knuckles has retrieved the relevant components, he glides to the waterfall, and ascends the cliff utilising his renowned appendages whilst batting away the attentions of the infuriating attack helicopter and soldiers who abseil down the craggy surface. Penetrating the fuel depot is relatively simple, as the majority of its garrison is preoccupied in tormenting Tails, yet Knuckles must endure a protracted sequence of brawls with the remaining guards and G.U.N. robots, pulping skulls and mangling steel, before hurling his improvised bomb against the tracks, satisfyingly incapacitating it and derailing the approaching engine.
Final Confrontation: This is especially included for the satisfaction of DanBaxter! The defenders of the train cast into [censored]tered and insensate disarray, the process of absolutely devastating the train appears a simple affair... yet motion can be detected in one of the forward carriages, severely brutalised by the horrendous and catastrophic derailment when all of its occupants should have been crushed by the force of the crash. From the controted ruin emerge three replicated bodies of Shadow, released from the ruptured seals of their armoured nutirent caskets, their bodies 'supplemented' by grafted drug dispensers designed to saturate their bodies with chemicals that transfigure the docile, incontinent creations into savage, ferocious predators. The train was not simply carrying a power source, yet also an advance squadron of new, potent guards for the Stellar Rubicon. Each player character must kill one of these aberrations, who focus upon a rabid, direct offensive as they are automatically flooded by lethal concoctions of steroids and adrenalin. Each possesses considerable health and are awkward to strike due to their speed, but there is a potential to destroy the replicants in a single blow as each time they are hit, the unstable chemical cocktails seething through them threaten to explode spectacularly!
Can you visualise this? Are there improvements you would suggest?

My idea is this (sorry if I didnt read others I just saw the topic and had to give my idea ) Sonic adventure 3/other title You have a choice of 5 teams of 2. The teams are: Sonic/Tails: A return to old! Shadow/Gamma Knuckles/Chaotix member of choice (inc. Mighty) Rouge/Knack Amy/Cheese The gameplay is like this: Sonic/Tails: Fast paced traditional sonic with added combo moves using both characters. A return to the old sonic 2 player except for 2 points. First the screen will go split screen if players are divided too much. Secondly for areas of intense speed the player using Tails holds down a button which activates the rings (ala Chaotix) between the two characters allowing him to keep close to sonic while having the freedom to swing left or right to catch goodies or kill baddies. With Tails flying Sonic can hang using the rings and do dive bombing moves. Shadow/Gamma: Similar to Sonic/Tails except Gamma is more of a long range attacker or heavy defence character. While trailing behind shadow the 2nd player can use gamma to shoot at passing targets. With Gamma leading he can power up a shield and shadow pushes him at high speed through enemies. The rings do not stop characters from going seperate directions but does help when characters are moving at high speed at keeping together. Knuckles/Chaotix: A new game style. Player 1 is Knuckles and player 2 chooses a chaotix member of his choice and the game plays a mix of sonic style running around with streets of rage beating the pulp out of the new CHAOS BADNIKS. Each of the chaotix have their own strength and weaknesses while knuckles is the middle man. Loads of moves and upgrades and dual combos. Rouge/Knack: Espionage levels involving the two characters working together in distracting gaurds and breaking into things. All modes for all characters work the same in single player xcept CPU controls player 2 and player 1 can call him over at any time for special move (or in the case of some levels a special icon appears at crucial times to pull of crucial moves) Amy/Cheese: Similar to Rouge/Knack except like SA1 they are being chased down and must escape their pursurers. ITEMS All characters have specific items. For example knuckles can get hand to hand weapons and upgrades for fighting. While Rouge etc can get stealth upgrades ala power ups in the adventure games. THE BEST ITEMS THOUGH are for SONIC TAILS SHADOW AND GAMMA. these 2 teams are the only ones with special stages and the prize are chaos emeralds which each member can use individually or combined with other emeralds for different arange of moves and powers. All emerald moves cost rings and therefore are limited. For example if shadow gets the red emerald he can use a short raneg chaos control (usefull if u miss a jump) but it costs 20 rings. emeralds can be combined into combination to create new moves again shadow with a red emerald and a blue emerald causes a chaos control attack which is a teleporting attack (ala that of sonic battle) Other characters can use the emeralds...gamma for new weapons and sonic for cool moves too. Tails is the only one I cant decide on. Gameplay. Multiple paths created by which character u have leading and a new wave of badniks that actually take serious beatings to kill and pose serious threat. (Hence shadow has stronger attacks but needs to be closer while gamma can take them down at a range. Hence of combination of the two is most effective.) The knuckles levels vary depending on who is your team mate. And the espionage levels have goals with multiple routes to achieve them. At start only sonic/shadow lines available

STORY: (note I have not played sonic heros so tell me of some errors) This is a tad complicated and goes into old sonic stories... Robotnik has finished his ultimate plan...his chaos legion. A new series of badniks more powerfull then his last batch due to them being created using a chaos emerald. His lead badnik CHAOS GAMMA can advance (similar to chaos) with each emerald he absorbs. But unlike chaos he is completely loyal. His first mission...destroy the gamma traitor and Shadow. Who have gone into the wild. (1st shadow level a forest level) at end of this shadow and gamma fight chaos gamma who has 1 emerald in him. BUT at the end of the fight something wierd happens. nearly destroying the orignal gamma chaos gamma malfunctions and the emerald he has disapears..as do all seven emeralds in each storyline.they form around the master emerald and break back into their original 14 emeralds (ala sonic and knuckles) and enter the special zone. At the same the chaos rings from Chaotix appear. Chaos Gamma retreats after loosing his emerald storage due to the accident. Gamma applies this storage to himself and with shadow chase after CG (chaos gamma from now on) with this they can enter special stages and collect emeralds that both can use. Shadow and Sonic gain a new item at the end of the 1st special stage a chaos glove which has 7 spaces around its rim for the emeralds. After hunting CG down to club rouge (1-2 levels later) they find her with Knack who she met while they both tried to rob GUN at the same time. They have found a chaos ring. Meanwhile Sonic meets CG who has been adapted by Robotnik to use chaos rings instead of emeralds. the location of the rings are as follows:
Robotnik has 2 Cheese has 1 Rouge has 1 GUN has 2 Chaotix has 1
CG crosses all storylines while trying to get all 7 chaos rings. Shadow meanwhile meets the 2nd new character. Original Shadow. A immortal hedgehog who is the REAL ULTIMATE LIFE FORM who has only some similar features to shadow (the puff of chest hair and spike shape) but is bigger and more powerfull and much grander in style etc. He is a member of the BROTHERHOOD OF CHAOS and has come for the chaos ring as they should not exist on earth and their meddling with the emeralds has caused them to appear. Shadow takes an immeadiate dislike to this guy and starts a fight which he looses badly and sets the carnival zone which club rouge is in on fire. Sonic then meets the two after playing the level while its on fire (gonna be a cool level) After this point Sonic sets off to stop robotnik and Shadow gives chase to OS (original Shadow) They cross over numerous times in their journeys. Meanwhile Knuckles with Chaotix have been enlisted (paid) to keep the peace from robotniks new badniks and find their source. So they go from level to level saving innocent people and beating the crap through Badniks. Amy/Cream are chased by GUN and Rouge/Knack infiltrate robotniks labs to find another ring. CG grows stronger throughout the game.
THE FINAL: Robotniks new base is a series of trains (cool sonic level where he has to chase the train down and board it while its defences are on full blast) which link to a central orb station in the desert here Robotnik has used a chaos ring to power his new army. The bad news for him is that CG wants all 7 rings and has 6 of em and is on his way. The good news he has captured Sonic and tails. Amy and cream were captured by GUN and Shadow is miles off hunting OS. Luckily knuckles etc for their last level have a full on LOTR style battle (very few against ALOT. Though u have to control only 2 characters all the other chaotix fight with you in each level) they save sonic who defeats robotnik. Now CG 6 shows up followed closely by Rouge/knack (CG now controls the chaos badniks and rouge followed them in a level (spy without being seen) to robotniks base) The LAST level for each team is the same play your role in stopping CG getting the emerald. SO
Knuckles: Have to fight off all of CG's badniks. Rouge: Must plant explosives to slow the now HUGE CG from reaching the ring Amy: Shows up with the GUN Air Base (which they took over) and must release GUN units to slow CG down. Sonic: Takes on CG in full classic showdown glory. Shadow: Shows up after sonic's turn and with Gamma Destroy's CG (cool final moment with Gamma using the emeralds to blow CG apart.)
IF you get all the emeralds the final level opens up (what that wasnt the end?? oh no!!)
Takes place straight after. The heros celebrate BUT OS shows up to claim the rings. Shadow refuses but sonic agrees (sonic met OS numerous times during the game and believes he is good) Sonic and shadow fight (1st boss u choose either side) and then they both go SUPER and fight (u stick with your original choice) IF you choosed Shadow your final fight is with a HYPER ORIGINAL SHADOW were you denounce your position as a clone/robot.
For the final ending Though choose Sonic. where you learn that OS had tricked everyone. He needed the emeralds and the rings so made robotnik set CG loose. Now that he has them all he can return to the brotherhood and they can rule the universe (blah blah evil talk) But Robotnik has a trick up his sleeve. using the remains of CG he traps OS within its hulk which turns into a robotic egg. which rises up through the cieling. THE LAST LEVEL has u playing each character in turn as they chase after the egg. Finally ending with not the usual Sonic/Tails combo BUT a Sonic/Shadow combo (loads of emerald powers) after destroying the edd OS is released in what robotnik describes as the perfect state. What he wanted to do with shadow a combination of the ultimate life form with the ultimate technology. The emeralds reform to their orignal seven and sonic/shadow go super. The first round is simply enough But not enough as Mecha Perfection goes Hyper using the emeralds and goes beyond their range. Shadow admits he is not the ultimate life form but that SONIC is and gives his power (with everyone else as well in a tear jerking moment similar to SA1 but more powerfull) to Sonic who goes Hyper to end the battle. Hyper Sonic fights Hyper Perfection. The goal is to destroy every emerald or Ring. Because Sonic is powered by his friends (awww) as well as them so doesnt loose power like HP and defeats him. The ending asks the question WHO ARE THE BROTHERHOOD OF CHAOS? but generally ends on a happy note as the rings of chaos take the place of the emeralds which are now destoryed (or vice versa depending which is more appealing) Shadow still perfers to foot it alone. But does end by saying Sonic's allright (wow a compliment)
Control changes:
Changes to how the games play include a new natural ability for sonic/shadow which is the quick turn which allows quick dodges left or right while running at high speed OR in midair using the shoulder pads. This allows more control on the speeding parts of the games and to put in more challanges...
Problems:
-Cant think of special powers for tails -Bits might need to be cut

also here are some badnik ideas
Bio-Haz! Like ye man from Lord sidewinders gang. Big beefy muther who is very tough to kill and spunks out a layer of toxic waste around him every now and then. First met by knuckles etc in the chemical meltdown level (a chemical plant style level)
Rapiers: The final set of badniks these electric charged fast moving badniks have electric spikes they attack with on their arms and can charge up every now and then. hard to kill but not as hard as Bio-Haz instead they are faster and can jump really high First met by Rouge in black jungle.
Chaos-legion. Similar to chaos Gamma simple gun and armour trooper except they have a reverse affect if sonic/shadow use chaos emeralds near them which makes them evolve a level (note some Chaos-legion have allready evolve so u meet numerous levels during the game between 0-4) First met by Sonic on Aqua City
many many more updated badniks

You've got some great ideas there S3. Keep them coming!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Commander Brutus would be great as a final boss before the last story? (Like the Egg Viper, Egg Emperor etc.)

sha your right... I was wondering why I smiled each time I thought about them.
I was also thinking as a tribute for the other sonic team games that Chaotix are hired to keep the peace during the Robotnik emergancy and one level has them putting out a fire, while fighting off badniks and rescueing people (ala Burning Rangers)

I'd like it if they used animated cutscenes again like in Sonic Cd, plus I think it would be cool if some of the older badniks where given moden upgrades (Pictures Grounder as a huge Tank and drools)

Thought I'd have a look around for any threads like this since I have some ideas I wanted to share myself. But since you brought it up, I'll tackle the stuff you said and just jot some of it down that way... - Should the game be called Sonic Adventure 3 or Sonic Heroes 2?Sonic Adventure 3. Sorry, but Sonic Heroes still sounds like a breakfast cereal or something. Ha, kinda does sound like a cereal (ish). I don't know, I always just thought it sounded like a cheesy name for a game. I've always said that I'd be perfectly happy with a Sonic Adventure 3 that was just Sonic Adventure. As in a sequel that'd pretty much just be like a full game-long expansion pack of SA1. But that doesn't make for much interesting conversation, so on to the next points... - Should adventure fields be brought back?Yes. I'd like that too. The adventure fields in SA1 felt as though you were inhabiting a world and gave Sonic context within an environment. They were badly done in '06 but the problem there was they were too big with nothing to do in them. Although I did like the (concept behind) the mission in Soleanna where you had to find springs that you could use to ring balls. It was platforming with an emphasis on exploration which, in theory, was a good idea. A thing that '06 sadly had a few of but didn't deliver in execution. What I think would be pretty awesome would be one (reasonably) large adventure field in which you could travel to different time periods at will within. You'd be able to choose from a few different levels or missions within the adventure field at a time, and depending on the order in which you did these levels/missions, you could change the future, which would result in story changes and alternate levels depending on your choices. So a bit like a cross between Sonic CD, Sonic Adventure, Super Mario 64 and Shadow the Hedgehog of all things. I swear it would be cooler than I make it sound... - What characters should be playabale in the game?Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, of course. Hopefully, Shadow, Rouge and Omega also will be playable. I'd love to see Nack the Weasel make a return as well, and Espio would be good as a lone character. Lastly, they could just dump Team Rose and Team Chaotix together again as they are the remaining characters. Mighty could replace Espio as Chaotix's speed character, after of course going through some re-design to not make him just look like Sonic in darker colours. They'd all be part of the same detective agency, but Espio would be off following a different case, which would end up with the two cases blending together by the end of the game. Hmmm... the problem with that is that too many characters would require too much disk space to really get their time in the sun, even if you ignore the fact that some of those mentioned are less than popular. There's also the issue of the fact that programmers, designers, all your "game staff" need to get paid for their time, and including all those character stories in a game would certainly take up a lot of the developers' time. Not to mention the fact you don't want to take too much time away from Sonic. A cast that big could make for a pretty thinly spread plot/gameplay. Gameplay variation is good but you also need consistency. - Should characters share the same, fast-paced Sonic Heroes-style of gameplay, or should there be a mixture of game styles like in the Sonic Adventure games? This is how I'd do it: Speed – Sonic, Tails, Shadow Hunting – Knuckles, Nack Stealth – Rouge, Espio Shooting – Omega Teamwork – Team Rose, Team Chaotix I might not make friends saying this, but in my opinion, Shadow's story is done. Keep him out of the games or if he's included, make his role minor, if you ask me. Would be quite interesting to have Nack going up against Knuckles ala SA2 though. Like I said before, variation is good, but you do want to have consistency too. I liked the varied game styles in SA1, but what I don't like is being switched between those play styles with no say in the matter, like in SA2... more on that in a sec... - Should characters all share the same levels, or should they each have unique levels (eg. Sonic Adventure 2)?Most levels could be shared, although some could also be unique to specific characters. I did like SA1's element of having each character's stories intermingle with each other, and I preferred not being bounced from one character perspective to the next at the plot's whim like in SA2. I just felt like going from playing as Sonic to playing as Knuckles made me feel less immersed in the game. I mean I know the series isn't known for its' immersion, but I'd rather get to play with one character and keep following their story until I choose to play as someone else. Getting to visit levels you've been to as other characters adds to the feel that you're operating in an organic would because it feels as though a place wasn't just created so you could go running around for a bit. The place was already *there*, and you just ended up going that way 'cause the world needed saving in that particular direction. - What should the main plot be about? Not sure yet, although I'd like to see them come up with something original for a change. Well, I think it's no secret at this point that we've had a few games where the end boss is a giant monster. But I was thinking about this formula recently and it dawned on me: if Sega are doing a bit of a Toho homage by having giant monsters coming along and destroying everything, why not continue along the Toho route and at some point have the giant monsters fight EACH OTHER, with Sonic and co caught in the middle? So, for example, Ibilis comes back for revenge (somehow) and then at roughly the same time, so does Chaos (again... somehow...) Chaos, being good now, decides he doesn't much like the thought of a big scary fire demon wreaking havoc on the world just when he started to like it, and takes it upon himself to go collecting chaos emeralds so that he can equip himself to fight off Ibilis so as to make amends for all of his own misadventures in havoc wreaking. But then somewhere along the line he loses control and it isn't so much about where Chaos will stop Ibilis from killing everyone but whether Sonic can prevent them both from creating a sizable amount of global-scale collateral damage. I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for B-movies. - Are there any new ideas for level types that you would like to see included?A Matrix Revolutions-esque nightclub would be pretty cool. That's a pretty cool idea. I thought a submarine might be a cool idea for a level theme but I was thinking more along the lines of a 2D game when I came up with that one...

Whoops, sorry about that. Didn't check the date. Wanted to make sure I didn't start a topic that had already been started.

Haha, it's no problem! For future reference, if you can't find it within the first few pages, just start a new thread and save yourself the bother. Worst case scenario, one of the mods'll merge it with the relevant topic.

Sonic Adventure 3: Playable characters (story mode)Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, 2 others Plot: Robotnik has united an army of all Sonic villains. Yeah, I like that idea myself. I really liked the part of "Robotnik Reigns Supreme" where Robotnik brings back Sonic's old enemies to team up on him, and always thought it would have been cool if STC had played with that concept more often, as well as the games themselves, obviously.

A game that is basically a Sonic version of The Simpsons: Tapped Out. You rebuild Green Hill Zone and put all the Sonic characters in there. There would be a battling element to it.
