I haven't played this game, but I've sort of been reading up on it recently. I've heard so many good things, like how it's a mish-mash of all the classic Sonic games, and how it's the best portable Sonic ever etc. Anyone played this? What was your impression of it?

I played it. Naughtily.
It is really quite good. Its more of a Sonic 2 remix than anything else. Wasn't able to complete it due to the final special stage being quite hard. Can't remember much about the music because it wouldn't work.
I don't know about best hand-held Sonic game though. It is too similar to Sonic 2 compared to the more unique Triple Trouble.

I completed it. Can't remember a sodding thing about it though. Took these screenshots to accompany a guide I wrote for Steve MacManus.

It's essentially just Sonic 2 with the odd this-and-that from Sonic 3, but it's very well put together and plays an amazing game.

It's a great game. As X3 said, it's basically Sonic 2 with less levels and some redesigned bosses and Sonic 3K parts thrown in.

The locations are taken from Sonic 2, but the levels are entirely different. It also has a great little rewards system, where you collect puzzle pieces and combine them to unlock extra features. It borrows music from S3K. Also, I have two copies, anyone want one? Neo Geo Pocket Color = best handheld

Hmm. It's tempting to wire you some money, but god only knows what... Alright, let me know in a couple of weeks.

Yes, I feel the need to bump a five-year old topic to say that this is by far the best handheld Sonic game there is. I just wish that I could find more of those puzzle pieces, especially if they do unlock extra stuff, since I have a lot of incomplete puzzles.
The biggest shame is that you can't just reset the entire game and delete all of the saved data, since I believe some of my puzzle pieces were already found for me. Oh well.
