A few weeks ago my mum graciously got me a book, THE STORY OF PHILOSOPHY. Most of the idiots in my form think: "Philosophy.......ahhh sod it. Just a load of posh stuff that I'll never understand." God, how could they be so wrong?
Philosophy underlines vertually every subject, it is the thinking of everything. Bryan Magee shows in chronological order the concepts of defferent philosophers. Protagoras, Aristotle, etc..
Philosophy has driven me to a point of utter confusion. A lot of the arguments are so impeccable I don't know what to believe. Another thing I ifnd very confusing is Aristotles causes. Aristotle breaks form down into 4 different causes.
4 different causes:
What-is-it-made-of?
What-actually-does-or-makes-it?
What-gives-it-the-shape-by-which-it-is-identified?
Ultimate-reason-for-it-all
My the first thought was: "What the hell?"
My second thought was: "What is the relevance of this?" And to be honest I don't know. What does it matter? A lot of philosophy really doesn't matter does it? The causes of form do promote debate but what outcome does it give? A lot of philosophy is like that.
Am I going psychologically crazy or am I just seeing it completely the wrong way (like I usually do)? Has anyone else read any philosophy or studied philosophy?

My second thought was: "What is the relevance of this?" I find your response quite baffling. Perhaps a better question might be "How is this not relevant?" What does it matter? The causes of form do promote debate but what outcome does it give? A lot of outcome; it just happens to be mental rather than substantial. Consider this: What is the use of wisdom? 'Philosophy' is, after all 'the love of wisdom', ('philo' being 'love' and 'sophy' being 'wisdom' in Latin).

Philosophy rules. It's thinking about thinking. It's fun, worthwhile, fascinating and is just generally awesome, and I will destroy all those idiots who say "philosophy's boring!". Thank you.
