The films coming out soon, here's the trailer hitchhikers.movies.go.com/ It looks good but probably won't be half as good as the radio show, which was truly EXCELLENT! Talk people.....

I was sceptical, but the most recent trailer is superb.

Sounds perfect. Alan Rickman is an excellent casting choice.

I was sceptical, but the most recent trailer is superb. Yeah, but trailers are usually better than the film! I can see this going well, but I can also see it sucking. Badly.

I also think that Zaphod Beeblebrox's two heads should be beside each other like in the T.V series, instead of what it looks like going to be, underneath on his neck.

Well when I first saw the trailer (the long one narrated by Stephen Fry) I though " no no no no NOOOO! Its all wrong!" coz Marvin the Paranoid Android looks like an iMac, Zaphod Beeblebrox appeared to be missing a head (I know now that its one above the other, but the book clearly states he had 2 sdie by side!), hes not a hippy and hes American!!! and theyved conjured up a new character to be the "baddie"!! NOOOOOOOOOO! However, Alan Rickman as Marvins voice...perfect!! I will be going to see it cos Ive been waiting a long time for it, but I will always love the original BBC series! Sheer brilliance, that! ;D

True, Marvin does not look right at all, they've played the brain the size of a planet thing too much into the design. That said, Douglas Adams did say that the BBC one didn't look the way he imagined either. Thing is, it won't have the cheese value the older version had, still I'll go and see it.

I think Marvins new look resembles a baby!! Look at that giant head in relation to the rest of him!! Your right, they are trying to flag up the brain the size of a planet thing, but he jst looks ridiculous. He needs to look more humanoid like the older version.

It looks strange.. But then again, I never heard of this series.

Any Hitchhikers is better than no Hitchhikers, but judging by the quality of most remakes I'm very, very dubious. As far as I can see they've changed things a *lot*... --Thalia

As far as I can see they've changed things a *lot*... From what? The radio show, the TV show or the books? Which were all different. There is no real definitive Hitchhiker's. 'Sides, Douglas Adams was involved in the writing of this up to his death. The section that'll have John Malkovich as some religious leader nutjob was written by Adams especially for the film.

I grew up with the books and the TV series. ^_^ Why do I keep getting into these divided fandoms?! I could be wrong, anyway. I'm just a bit cynical about revamps in general these days.... after seeing all those revived 90s cartoons that are about lately.... *shudders* noooo! --Thalia

I apologise for becoming the harbinger of dire laments and tormentful sorrow, but recent reports are rather explicitly assertive in stating that the new film has all the appeal of a Vogon poetry recital...

Steve Jones said it was great! ;D
... but on the other hand, he is really Vernon Kay putting on a Welsh accent (or so Mitchell and Webb reckon, anyway)

For example Zaphod Beeblebroxs heads are different and HES NOT A HIPPY!! bah! I will go to see it, tho but Ill head straight home to read the book afterwards so I can make comparisons angrily! ;D

I think it's worth going to see the film with an open mind, being that it wasnt produced in the UK, the films humor is going to be less British at points. If the trailers anything to go by it seems a perfectly fine film with a good amount of humor. Just dont get all huffy about it not being perfect, no film adaption ever will be perfect unless the orignal author is still about. Even then it's a bit touch and go on some points.
I'm interested in seeing how Disney will continue to handle the series, Resturant at the end of the Universe might be an interesting look, then again an adaption to all the books could be interesting if it happens

Not, made, in, the UK?
Well thats it then, it'll go the way of any other US made remake of a UK thing then
From the trailer, wheres the bit in the pub?
Nine pints before lunch time?

well it has some UK actors in it and most of the script is from Adams himself. It just happens to be fillmed in Hollywood rather than over here, which is understandable. Look at the Red Dwarf movie that was trying to get funding here. At least this film got made so as the immortal words go DONT PANIC
