I have that book, but I've not got around to reading it. Is it any good? The only thing with Bane in it that I've read was the Jedi vs. Sith comic, and it wasn't exactly the best in terms of characterisation.

I have that book, but I've not got around to reading it. Is it any good? As for terms of characterisation, I can't really just say yet. I've only gotten up to Part II, where he's finally recruited into the ranks of the Sith Lords. But so far, as the man known as Dessel, he's a pretty bitter fellow. Often anti-social towards a fair number of people, though reasons being would vary. However it's still hard to classify him as 'evil' yet, as he actually cares about the welfare of the few people that treat him with respect.

I'm starting Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Betrayal. Should only take me a couple days to read.

I've read the Legacy series as far as Tempest. One thing is certain; Star Wars books take far too long to get published.

I'm currently re-reading Paul Auster's New York Trilogy. It's a trio of detective stories - City of Glass, Ghosts and The Locked Room - that don't share any characters or plots, but have similar themes. (The books were released individually but they're so short they've been anthologised and it's impossible to buy them seperately). They really are absolutely excellent and play with your head quite a lot, messing around with concepts of identity and the abstract nature of language. I'm about halfway through City, which has been translated into comic form - now there's something that I need to check out. Anyway. Highly recommended.

I found a second hand copy of Tombs of Atuan today for a pound! Also I'm reading Kipling's Kim at the moment and enjoying it much more than I thought I would. Awesome all round!

I read the TBP of the Star Wars: Jedi vs. Sith comic series. It's very well drawn, and the writing is very good. However, this is where the good things stop. Why are Jedi Knights whining about their honour, their taste in clothing and their dreams of glory? A Jedi craves not these things. It's basically The Lord of the Rings or The Wheel of Time with Star Wars technology. Then there's the story. We follow the trials of three young cousins. Tomcat, a whining idiot obsessed with the Jedi being 'glorious'; Bug, the smart-ass of the trio, and Rain. She's the youngest of the three, and she is found by Darth Bane at the end and becomes a Sith apprentice. It's not bad, I suppose, but it's nowhere near as good as Darth Bane: The Path of Destruction, which contains certain elements of Jedi vs. Sith.

I just read the Halo Graphic Novel and it has filled me with much awesome feelingitude. Sergeant Johnson is the one and only king.

Studying it for English Literature, but very glad I am doing so We're being made to perform it in American accents, which sucks 'cause two of us are actually American and have US Accents. So the rest of us who're performing look like lame fakers D: But yes, as is to be expected of Arthur Miller, top notch stuff.

I had to do The Crucible at Higher English. Twice. Much more enjoyable second time around when I actually got what it was about.

Yeah. Oh well, at least his name was safe at the end.
Been reading up on some philosphy recently. Not something you can idly flick through like a Michael Hardcastle book.

Finsihed Part II of the Darth Bane novel (I read one chapter per day whenever I get a new book. I like to take my time with it). Most of it concerns Bane's life at the Academy, and his character really grows and develops throughout this part. He becomes much more arrogant and eventually defiant.
The two things which really bothered me though were Githany and Sirak. Githany was okay as a character, but the author had ruin it by having Bane attracted to her. It was pointless and the story would have progressed just as well without it.
Sirak was weak, really. As a rival, he was cool. His actions motivated Bane into becoming stronger. But as a character, very plain. Just a Darth Maul recolour ("my tattoos are black and YELLOW").
Other then that, great read so far. I espically liked how Part II ended.

Jews and Christians in Twelfth Century Europe. Not as boring as it sounds.
Personal favourite moment was when the "king" of Lepers convinced the King of France to give him the Queen as her punishment for being unfaithful.

American Gods is a quality, quality book.
Just finished both Phantom by Terry Goodkind and All My Sons by Arthur Miller. Now I should probably get to starting/finishing Fate of the Fallen by Ian Irvine, Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan, and Forest Mage by Robin Hobb...

I be on George Eliot's Middlemarch. It's pretty good, though lots of bits are slipping out of my head as I read them, as happens with a lot of Victorian novels for me. The political stuff is pretty boring and thus far only Lydgate, Fred, Mary and maybe Farebrother could reasonably be described as anything approaching well-rounded characters. But it's keeping me entertained and there are loads of lovely turns of phrase, neat metaphors and nice asides from Eliot. So I shall continue! Yes.

I'm about half of the way through Lord of Chaos. It's brilliant thus far, especially the parts with the Forsaken.
I think I'll probably take a short break from The Wheel of Time when I'm done to read Star Wars: Allegiance by Timothy Zahn.

So I finished reading Path of Destruction yesterday. The climax has already been known for years ever since Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was released, but only until now do we know the events in exact detail. I somehow couldn't help but cheer as Githany was caught within the thought bomb's blast radius.
I loved how Bane orchestrated it all. He went from gritty, bitter miner to manipulating, ruthless, unfeeling Dark Lord, and those traits progress slowly and naturally throughout the book. I'll probably read through it again.
Also, holocron of Darth Revan + Tutoring Bane the ways of the Sith = Fangasm. That was awesome. The idea of Revan's legacy eventually leading Bane to believe that there should only be two Sith at a time just made Revan an even more influential figure in Star Wars history, considering it leads to Darth Sidious eventually taking over the Republic and nearly destroy the Jedi Order.

I felt that the author could have specified Revan's gender, but I suspect that such information would have bothered numerous fans who don't accept that he is canonically male.
If you liked seeing Githany die, read the Jedi vs. Sith comics (unless you have already). Not only does Githany get gruesomely pwned, but there's a whole new character to hate by the name of Tomcat.
I'm currently halfway through Lord of Chaos. It's probably the longest one yet.
