Bat Out of Hell II was a nineties album, but it was released before I was old enough to actually enjoy music.

Off the top of my head, here are some great albums from the '90s:
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer Judas Priest - Painkiller Megadeth - Rust in Peace Metallica - s/t Nirvana - Nevermind Rage Against the Machine - s/t Radiohead - OK Computer Soundgarden - Superunknown Blur - Parklife Portishead - Dummy Pantera - everything they did in the '90s was fantastic Moby - Play The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes Garbage - s/t Faith No More - Angel Dust Travis - The Man Who... The Cranberries - Everyone Else is Doing it, so Why Can't We? Creed - Human Clay Leftfield - Leftism Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Savage Garden - s/t Seal - s/t
REM had a lot of good stuff in the '90s too.

That's probably the kind of thing I'd enjoy if I actually bothered listening to it.
The only thing I really remember about nineties music was the mainstream pop stuff - the boy bands and girl groups and all that. I guess I wasn't all that interested in music at that point.

Towards the end of the decade I was a bit obsessed with the top 40, but that didn't last long. I discovered Black Sabbath around that time. Anyway, anyone heard Them Crooked Vultures? It's Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters). It genuinely sounds like an amalgamation of each of their bands. It's quite an odd album but I'm enjoying it more with each listen.

I actually remember a letter-writing exercise from primary school in which I stated that my favourite band was S Club 7.

I'm pretty sure I also had a Steps LP.
Of course, this was the nineties, when the Teletubbies theme song topped the charts and Bob the Builder had top ten singles.

I'm pretty sure I also had a Steps LP. If it was an actual LP, as in vinyl, I would laugh so so much. I'm still working my way through all the Now! albums, I've got up to number 15, 1989.

What's the actual difference between an LP and an EP, anyway? It's been explained to me half a dozen times and I've never quite got my head around it. Is it based on running times or the number of tracks?

It used to be that an LP was a full album, i.e. took up most of a vinyl record. EPs were an '80s thing recorded on tapes usually.
Nowadays you can get 45-minute EPs so the definition is pretty blurred.
Basically an LP is a full-length album and an EP is usually tracks left over from the making of an LP or a demo of new songs.

How about this Rage Against the X Factor affair that's been unfolding? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Haven't heard them yet, but one of my product design teachers went to see them on Monday night, told me they were great. Need to check 'em out. On the RATM thing, I'm surprised that it's staying at number one to be honest. When I heard they were 10,000 in front on Monday I thought "That's because all the Facebook group have bought straight away" but now that it's consistant I'm hoping. But then again CD sales might beat 'em. Though now the actual band's in on it (they're saying proceeds will go to charity) that might give a jump on the situation.

I had a listen to Vultures on Spotify the other day and was thoroughly underwhelmed. Great band name though.
Speaking of Christmas charity stuff, [censored]ed Up have done a Do They Know it's Christmas? cover with Yo La Tengo, GZA, Andrew W.K., Tegan & Sara, Kyp Malone ('im out of TV on the Radio), Kevin Drew ('im out of Broken Social Scene), Ezra Koenig ('im out of Vampire Weekend), Bob Mould ('im out of Hüsker Dü) and David Cross ('im out of King Crimson). I've just bought it off iTunes. I've heard better, but hey, it's for charity and that.

Bugger RATM, it's all about Half Man Half Biscuit this Christmas. I did buy it, though.

That would have been beyond lolzy if they'd gotten to Number 1. I don't particularly like Sunn O))) (sorry Bryce), but still. There's also an Aphex Twin one.

Does anyone know what music the northern soul mods played? I know all about the music that the northern soul mods enjoyed but I can't actually find out any of the bands aside from Dexys Midnight Runners.

Does anyone know of and good groups with a similar sound to Duran Duran or the Killers? I'm interested in hearing that kind of thing.

Need some instrumental album (well, either no singing or very bloody little singing) reccomendations am lately on Boards of Canada: Discography Explosions In The Sky: The Rescue Nortt: Galgenfrist Hyatari: They Will Surface Jami Sieber: Hidden Sky Buckethead: Colma/Electric Tears so it's clear to see I couldn't care less what genre it is so long as it's awesome without being distracting, which is why the only Bucketheads I've been employing have been Colma and Electric Tears. No need to apologise, I know they're crap. Give me all your albums, vinyls, shirts and hoodies then if this is how you feel, Betrayer.
