Hey everyone I've decided to cave and buy a modern console, intially I was gonna get a gamecube because it seems to have a wide range of games I want and it's the cheapest, however the PS2 and XBOX are now only 99.99 so I was considering getting one of them instead.
Which one would do you think I should get?

Now thats a question.right. PS2, forget about it. graphics crud. I have a gamecube and it has very good graphics but most of the games for it are aimed at kids. I'd advise you to get an xbox priced£96 on www.amazon.co.uk It has good games like GTA Vice city and has good graphics. you dont need to buy memory cards for it either. I'm savin up for an xbox myself. that answer ur quessie?

Hey Tucker! Haven't seen you in a while. All the nex-gen consoles are good in their own ways. Don't listen to Jim, he'll just tell you to buy an X-Box, Madhair will tell you PS2 and Zero won't shut up until you get a Gamecube In all honesty I'd say get a PS2. They have really good games, a wide choice of Platinum and no ruddy mascots.

Xbox. Music ripping, 5.1 compatable The games get patched* Online gaming Requires some thought to play the games.
*patching games requires at least a 128kbs connection and subscription to Xbox live Not all games are compatable.

Heres my view. pros and cons
Xbox: Pros: Dvd, 4player,emu capabilities, music burning, built in memory system, online. Cons: *can be seen as a pro to some* Mostly realistic games.
Playstation: Pro: Dvd, good range of games, online. Cons: 2player,memory card.
Gamecube: Pros: Cartoonty games instead of realistic *can be a con*, 4player. Cons: No dvd, memory card, no online options.
So theres some facts..but overall it would be what you would like best.

It all depends on what you're into. What kind of games do like playing? Personally I'd recommend the PS2 above all others (not that there's anything wrong with the others). The simple fact is you get a better range of games, and lots of lovely exclusives like Gran Turismo, Ratchet/Jak series, Tekken series, ICO, the Eyetoy, the Devil May Cry series, the main Final Fantasy games, and all Metal Gear and GTA games come to us first. Didn't realise how many Sony-haters there are on these boards.

The playstation 2 no contest. and yes I'll argue this...
forget power and number of pollies per second because we all know that you can have the most powerful thing on the planet but unless it has great games and is easy to play on whats the point?
Online ability:
PS2: Yes Xbox: yes cube: yes/No (depends where you live)
Xbox and ps2 wins
user friendly:
Xbox: extremely large, bulky pad that needs a redesign since a lot of people cannot play games 100% effectively with it (some young children cant because their hands arnt large enough).
Cube: nice and small compact and will fit in most homes. control pad is nice in the hand but its button location is diabolical! try playing mortal kombat on it, its dreadful.
PS2: its bigger then a cube but smaller then the box, but when standing vertical it can fit in almost any environment, its pad has won awards for being almost perfect in its design (why else do you think it wasnt altered from the psx?)
PS2 wins.
DVD's + extras
Gamecube: you play the games and urm... thats it.
X box: plays games, plays dvd's (unless you dont get the remote) cd's etc.
PS2: plays games, plays dvds (no extras required), cd's etc, and also can play just about every PSX game (with a few exceptions) and you can use old memory cards for them too
PS2 wins (just)
Store space, this is important because you may love the console you have but if the stores dont supply the games its about as useful as a master system is right now.
Gamecube: you are lucky to find a few sheves full of games or maybe half a rack if you go to a big game store
x box: chances are theres a whole rack and maybe 2 racks in big stores:
PS2: chances are a whole wall is dedicated to the PS2 its only second to PC game coverage.
PS2 wins
Accessories: both good and bad, lots of acessories mean lots of other media for the console to utilise. but lots of accessories mean lots of money needed to get them.
cube: a pad, memory card. and im unsure if theres any others... so little to no variation on games.
x box: pad, memory card (although I believe you dont need them) light gun (light gun game possible) dvd remote (bad thing, why not just use the pad?)
PS2: pad, memory card (no internal memory so you WILL need one) light gun (light gun game possible) eye toy (new UNIQUE kind of gameplay)
PS2 wins: it would have been a tie last year between x box and ps2 but with the release of the eye toy and the new interactive gameplay it wins.
Possible futures:
cube: its unlikely that this will be around by the end of 2005 just because of the lack of things it has and the lack of games out at the moment.
X box: this wont go away just yet, its likely it will be around for another 2-3 years before it stops production.
PS2: as with the xbox, but its likely that this will last longer then the box simply because its in more homes worldwide by millions more then the other consoles and because of the game licences it already holds.
PS2 wins
The future games:
Gamecube: other then the now exclusive resident evil series and mario. is there anything? they've already lost exclusive rights to sonic.
X box: a lot of good stuff to come, Halo series (But you can get it on pc too) abes oddesy series,
PS2: where to start? exclusive rights too... final fantasy (cube had to buy their game), tomb raider, GTA (yup no more x box versions) metal gear solid, Silent hill, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Jak series, Tekken series, Time crisis, eye toy and theres even evidence to suggest that the resident evil series will be headding back to sony.
PS2 wins again.
There are other points to discuss but I think I've made mine. No matter how you want to argue it PS2 is the best investment, the cube is almost dead, the x box started off with many problems but the PS2 secured its future and has had little problems since its release, it just gets more improved. however the most important thing here is store space, these are key indicators to which console is going to last the longest and is the better one, after all who buys things they hate? and in the majority (if not all) of stores, the PS2 dominates the store space second only to the PC game titles on offer. Ater all why would a store only have more gamecube games on display if more people are buying PS2 and X box titles?

This is a hard choice, but if you’ve had your eye on the GameCube and like the look of a few of its games then you should go for it. Xbox and PS2 are both cool consoles but you may end up getting one and not liking the games which will be a total waste of money (especially with the Xbox because I have heard that it has the smallest range of games.) So I would say GC, it’s cheap, it has a wide selection of games that you like (or so you said) and it’s made by Nintendo. Unless you really want to play online in which case I would recommend PS2.
By the way, this is coming from PS2 owner so very little fanboyism is effecting this post.

Zero won't shut up until you get a Gamecube Too true. ;D Yes. The unrivalled brilliance of Metroid games. Just Metroid Prime 2. There's no doubt it will be in Top 10 Games of the Year. Heck, forget 10, it will be in the Top 5. Now what'll I say, don't get any of the three. 'Cause all the next-gen consoles will be out next year, and thats not far away. Surely you don't want to but a new console, and then discover new ones have been released 4 or 5 months later?

Didn't realise how many Sony-haters there are on these boards. You're on a Sega board... I've got a Cube and am very happy with it. However, this is because I believe in getting specific things for specific tasks (i.e. I have a seperate DVD player instead of a console that plays DVDs) and also, I'm not bothered about online play. It really is just a case of looking at which console you think best suits your needs, as well as which games you're interested in. I don't really like GTA, for example, and when I bought my Cube Sonic Team were still concentrating on it rather than all three consoles. Also if space is limited in your house, bare in mind that the Cube and PS2 (if put vertically) are much more easily storable.

I have a PS2 and my brother has a GC.
The PS2 has a wider range of games but longer loading times.
The GC has a shorter loading time and better graphics but less games.
Ironically I play on the GC more than my brother because I like a lot of the games on it like SSBM and LOZ- Windwaker. He uses the PS2 more as he's really into sporty games like FIFA.
Like someone else said: go for the console which has more of the type of games you like.

I have all three! How greedy am I?! lol! Ill be faithful and stick to my PS2, it has the best game range IMO. I dont think some of my fave games were released for Xbox or GC, like TombRaider, Ecco and the LOK games. XBox has the best graphics but I dont like its control pad much. GC I just got for the Sonic games to be honest!! lol! ;D

Why oh why do people deny (no rhyme intended) the brilliance that is Metroid? I got the Cube... for Metroid. *salutes* And for Sonic and Star Wars. Because there is so much more brilliance on the ps2 and also judging by the actions of sonic heros being multi format and also megacollection pluss and also the resident evil series making changes it would seem that other companies can see that the gamecubes boat has one very very large gash in the side... and more then 5 compartments are flooded...

Never played Metroid even though I own a GC. I only bought it for Sonic and Resi, really. All in all I haven't touched my GC in the months since Twin Snakes came out.
