Meh. It's not the graphics, more that I just don't see this working in 3D at all.

Didn't see Mario working in 3D either.

Good point, I guess, but I haven't played 64 so I can't really comment. I've played Sunshine, but it a) isn't "really" Mario and b) isn't actually very good.

I would of thought they would have gone for the '2.5D' look. Maybe add a few cell-shading (not to much, just to give it that Metal Slug cartoony look if you know what I mean)
- For those of you who don't know what I mean by '2.5D' to put it simply it's just 3D Sprites & Backgrounds on a 2D axis e.g. you can only move forward, backwards, jumping, etc.
Metal Slug 3D
Why oh why. I know that SNK has to produce 3D games because I think it was SCEA who said that none of there newer up to date 2D games would be realeased in the west if they did'nt move the company in a Three-Dimensional direction. With KOF: Maximum Impact in the works it looks like SNK has failed on there next 3D attempt. The graphics are poor quality and look abit shody, as in you can already see how the game will play and what the faults in it will be. Prepare to see alot of falling through the background. It's just those shody graphics that really let it down the most as we can't really comment, though it's fair to say that this will most-probaly be a let-down too.
2D Gaming: Rest in Peace
I would have to say now that 2D gaming is on the verge of extinction. With portable gaming now moving into the 64-bit era what with the likes of Nintendo's DS & Sony's PSP what is left for 2D Gaming. The majority of gamers now in the UK probaly only by a game for it's graphics and whether or not you can steal, drive or shoot your way through a game. Just look at the likes of GTA San Andreas. Even if it is a rubbish game it is still garunteed to be in the No. 1 spot in most retailers. So this brings me to SNK. We should think about this and realise that this is a company who are vertially entering the 3D Gaming World as to being preassured by SCEA. So it's more of a question as to whether they take the right roads to lead them to 'Gaming Utopia'
As always, your Oz

2D will never completely go away.
You still get new films in black-and-white, don't you? And 2D is more than just a style, it's a specific set of mechanics.
