I actually posted this on another forum over a month ago, but this is a good followup to the NOM thread.
--------------------------------------
Not since the days of the Nintendo 64, in Nintendo Official Magazine have I witnessed pointless bad-mouthing of other consoles. (Greystation? Dreampants?) While I don't read many magazines nowadays, in recent times the magazines have been really courteous towards rival systems. Not long ago, a Gamecube magazine even said that they couldn't wait for Snake Eater on PS2.
But then there was XBM, a magazine that in itself seems a ripoff of OXBM, the offical Xbox mag. While I'm reading up on Conker, there's a screenshot of the squirreldude playing a GBA, with the caption, "Conker found a Game Boy: People should watch where they leave their filth".
Froink's sake, man, grow up. Not only is pointless abuse bloody stupid, but 1) Microsoft obviously doesn't mind if the Game Boy is in an Xbox game, 2) It's a handheld. I might understand if it was a Gamecube, but handhelds are a different section of the market. Kinda. And on top of that, no-one can deny that all Game Boy models are great classic systems. So XBM are just being stupid.
So...yeah. That's my rant over. Took half an hour to write because I'm watching School of Rock.

On a related note, PC Gamer have been slagging off console games for months. Elitist fools.

Big surprise. After all, everyone knows that games made for a dedicated machine are far inferior to games made for a very awkward system to develop games for, namely the PC. Right?! I suppose they gave Halo PC a bad review then by those standards?

God its discracful really. PSMax is one of the worst examples of this. But I can't be bothered ranting about them again.
If someone rated a PC game badly because it doesn't work properly, then he's obiviously a fool. Blame the hardware, not the software.

To avoid this kind of immaturity, you're much better off reading a multi-format magazine like EDGE or Games TM.

This kind of topic has come up before and I am going to say the same thing as I did before. Why the hell did you write half an hours worth of writing for a sentance that took them about 5 minutes to think up.
Just ignore it man. If they want to be stuped then it is there problem, it ain't worth complaining.

Listen to Sin, guys.
Lay down your arms and take all the crap with gentle good humour. Teach your kids the same thing. Tell 'em to surrender first chance they get. Let 'em walk all over you. That's the way to prosper. Complete ignorance. Passiveness. It's the path to a better future for all of us.

EDGE is a good mag. It is just incredibly cynical.
IMO PSM2 is the best of the current games mags.

NGC just slags off Sonic games. CUBE is a good magazine, because they are NOT biased NOM is OK but maybe biased Offical PS2 is one of my favourite games magazines. ;D Haven't read much of EDGE. (no smiley!) Kiel

Despite its ridiculous attitude towards Sonic titles (37% for Sonic Adventure DX - what the blub?), NGC is actually quite a good mag. Well-written, humorous, and with a firm but fair ratings system. NGC may be a little harsh at times, sure, but at least then you know that if they give a game a top score, it's well worth checking out.
Which is more than can be said for NOM, who do nothing than harp on about how wonderful Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto are every issue, and sod all else. As a matter of fact, can anyone ever recall them ever scoring a Nintendo-pulbished or developed game less than 90%?
Another problem I find with NOM is that they try way too hard to be "hip" and cool. The over-use of the word "ass" in particular is incredibly annoying.

the very worst mag I have ever read was when the psx first came out there was a bombardment of mags to review the early games, by far the worst was named playstation pluss (I think playstation sometime maybe pro) this is how it broke down...
its reviewers couldnt have played the games they made. e.g. tomb raider scroed 50% on gameplay, but they gave graphics 100% because of laura was georgeous.
the cheats section was completely innacurate...
e.g to give laura a grenade launcher in tomb raider 1 (there is no such weapon in this game)
to defeat ruby weapon in final fantsy 7 use the pheonix summon it'll fry ruby and revive your characters. (sorry but it actually heals ruby since fire damage heals it and doesnt revieve your characters in this fight if they fell victim to sandstorm)
in every review they had the words [censored] Sh*t b*stard without the *'s and most of the mag answered things like "Whats better viedogames or sex, and they would dedicate 6 pages to answer this question.
one issue had one specialist feature that was and I quote "the top 10 cyber girls you'd most like to shag."
and of course lets not forget the extremely important full page adds for games that wernt released in the UK....
absolute garbage,
but then again does anyone remember the early gamesmasters when they would say things like git in each review (remember early 1990's was a bit diferent to our speach patterns today).

As a matter of fact, can anyone ever recall them ever scoring a Nintendo-pulbished or developed game less than 90%? Recently, they've scored Mario Pinball 60%. Seriously.

Mario Pinball is a BAD GAME.

I was reading the most recent issue of NOM. And they were reviewing Mario Pinball. Being slightly biased, I thought that this would score high. It only scored 60% Kiel

Yeah, I was surprised that they did give it 60%, considering they score every other Mario game over 90% (except for Luigi's Mansion, Mario Party's 4 and 5 as well as Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour).
...
Okay, so there's been MORE then one Mario game that's been rated lesser then 90%. So please don't be over-critical towards them.

I think 60% is the lowest score they've given for a Mario Game. It's probably just all the platform / adventure type Mario games that score the highest. Mario Tennis is on the way. Do you think it will score high or low? NOM predicts that they will score it 85%+ Kiel
