It seems really sad to me that Sega have been reduced to a third party software developer. Back in the glory days of Mega Drive Vs SNES Sega ruled the market, they had by far the best software, if the Mega CD, the Saturn and the Dreamcast had only had the software support the Mega Drive did they prehaps they too could've been market leaders. I always thought the Dreamcast really did have the potential to be something amazing, but I was left disappointed. I know it's been a while now, but it still doesn't seem right seeing Sonic on rival systems, especially Nintendo ones!

They said they were pulling out of the hardware market. Sega wouldn't lie to us.

a fully functioning home console nope, definately not.
however the handheld mega drive however could see the light of day. its possible since emulators and roms have proved people still enjoy playing the old classics.

News flash! They did release a hand held Mega Drive but with limited appeal and distribution! Nomad! This just in! we all already know this however there is discussion of a sucessor that can play all old mega drive games. Easy kiddo. We don't want this to turn into a flame war okay? I just got rid of the insult. ~ Sinedit: Oh I see its ok for him to go around agrivating people but when they respond, oh no dont say that. Yep, also if I take out a word don't stick in another one. He was a bit rude but he didn't call you a name, don't call him one back. ~ Sin

Not for the forseeable future, no. However, if Sony and Microsoft one day pull out of the console market, Nintendo will need competition, and Sega, providing it's still in business, could be in a strong position to launch another console.

CD and 32X weren't Mega Drive, they were add-ons. I don't know where you got this about it not playing all Mega Drive games though. It was just a smaller Mega Drive with a screen, y'know?

then your thinking about something else, this concept Im aware of fits in the palm of your hand, its around the same size of a gbaSP and can play the whole megadrive legacy, including 32x and mcd, however the information I saw didnt really specify how it would play cd,s but my guess is that you could either download them (as with xbox's downloading additional stuff idea) or they would release them as seperate cartridges like a gba game.

I'm positively confused. Just to help ease the tension, I'll ask a stupid question.
Was the handheld Mega Drive the Game Gear or a console so obscure that I haven't heard of it.
And no, I sincerely doubt that Sega have the will or capability to release a new console.

Can you two please take your discussion over via PM? As its slowly sliding off-topic and its not hard to notice its leading to insults. Thank you. I did hear unconfirmed rumors of Sega bringing out a new console, but it does seem unlikely. *Suzanne is a man, she eats raw chicken, she disnae ken how tae use an oven. su...* ;;

I saw loads about the Nomad years ago in an old Sega mag (I forget which) with an "exclusive preview", but my understanding was that it was never released in this country.

It's not really sad, it was a really good move for them, IMO.

I think they will >.> *is a severe die hard Sega fan and severe optimist*
See the reason they went into third-party mode was because of lack of money, they were having severe losses after the Sega Saturn as people were more interested in the Playstation and then the PS2 (Even though we know which was better >.>).
But because of the third-party mode, they have raised their funds once more and I strongly believe that after a few years after the Xbox 2 and PS3 are released, Sega will strike back (Bear in mind I'm talking round about 2010).
Thats what I believe and strongly hoping for.

It seemed like sega's consoles never came out at the right time.. Example. Saturn came out.. then ps1 and N64 (they crushed saturn) BTW. Saturn actually probably had better graphics than Ps1.. odd. Dreamcast comes out with great graphics.. then Ps2,Xbox and gamecube (with better graphics) come and crush Dreamcast. Sad But true.

Personally, I see Sega as a being biding its time gathering intel and resources which will then release a console in the future that will place Sega back on the throne of console kings.
Okay weird moment there but I do see Sega eventually moving out of 3rd party mode back to what it did best.

And was a burning wreck before the purple box thing was out.

I know a guy who owns two... the things go for about £200 these days. I've also seen pictures of a Mk3 Genesis and Mk3 Master System (which had Sonic's picture on) which were made by some other company and sold in Brazil or somewhere.... apparently. Could be a hoax though. --Thalia, wanting a MultiMega No, there won't. But it would be nice. --Thalia

I saw a Megadrive thing in a store recently. It's got like, Sonic 1, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Dr Robotnik's MBM, Flicky and a bunch of others on it, and it's about £20, I think. It reminded me of that TV Boy thing, only without the suckiness, and with a bunch of MD classics on it. If anyone's near Guildford anytime soon, go into the gadget shop (it used to be called 'What's New', but now it's just 'Gadget Shop'). It's in the Friary -- fairly close to the Disney Store. Have a look and you'll see the Megadrive pack in there, going for about £20. As a matter of fact I might go in there tomorrow for a closer inspection, and possible purchase.
