And don't feel bad about not knowing stuff, this is a game with a LOT of nuances, some of which you won't learn until your fifth or sixth play through. Wrong. I learned about suplexes, knifing the bear traps, flash grenades killing parasites and everything on my first playthrough. I know it all, and I am only on my fourth playthrough.
I'm such and arrogant [censored]....

Do you remember an outside part of the castle with a door that Leon says "With a little help from another person I might be able to get through"? There's a water fountain nearby with birds perched on it. Go there, and the finest Magnum in the game (again IMO), is in there for free, along with treasure and red herbs. Totally worth it. You NEED ASHLEY WITH YOU, though. *Curses profoundly* Dammit. I'll have to remember that. When do I next get Ashley back? (She's just been taken off by one of those Novistadors a.k.a: Mutant insect monsters) I don't recall a long table of food, though I DO recall several long tables with no food (right before you fight the Garrador in a cage). How far back is it? I'm willing to backtrack as far as I damn well have to. Yeah, that's the table I was talking about. There may have not been food, my memory is fuzzy. It's quite a long haul back, if I recall... nights: What can I say? I'm a slow learner. And I wonder if you would've known about suplexes if I hadn't told you...

It's quite a long haul back, if I recall... Hell, if it gets me a free Rocket Launcher, I ain't bothered. Incidentally, I did find a free RL in a glass case. But it only had one shot in it and it disappeared after I used it. And you didn't tell me when I next get Ashley back, annoying spore that she is. On a completely unrelated note, I think a part of me died when Luis bit the dust. My eyeballs practically popped from my skull when Saddler gutted him. Oh, and the spider Plaga are by far the scariest of the varients I've met thus far. *shudders*

The free broken butterfly is quite far back. It's in between the dude in the cage and the garden with the dogs, just by where you meet Ada.
The free rocket launcher is just after the fight in the cage, just before Luis dies.

That's the only free launcher on the game, and all of the rocket launchers only have one shot in them. It's what you waste 30000 PTAs on whenever you suck too much to defeat a boss. I have never bought a rocket launcher on that game, and completed professional mode without any special weapons and in Leon's normal costume....Playing through again, I have a PRL and a Chicago Typewriter.
Little hint: Whether your Broken Butterfly is free or not, KEEP IT. Despite what the game will lead you on to believe, it is more powerful than the Killer 7. If you upgrade your Killer 7, it will go up to 35 on the firepower guage. It will go up to 30 on the Broken Butterfly, but then gives you the option to upgrade it once more with the "exclusive" option, and then it goes up to 50. That is one kick-ass gun.

Sounds like you already used that rocket. If I recall, you don't get Ashley back again until a little later in the game, when you've moved on from the castle.

I thought extra rockets could be purchased from the Merchant once you'd bought one. *whacks self in head* Double damn. I'll just buy one instead, then. I've got enough cash. I guess the Mine Launcher will have to be my saving grace on this occassion. Thanks for the tactical help, guys.

Well, I got that book I linked to on the last page this morning. Zed. Oh. Em. Gee. They clearly made the pages nice and glossy to combat all the fanboy drool. Minus points first: 1) this really needs to be a hardback. I'm having to put things on the covers to weigh them down after flicking through it. 2) It's translated from Japanese, so there's an occasional spelling/punctuation error or bad bit of grammar (and a couple of flat out mistakes). But they're few and far between. Anyway, this book otherwise rocks hardcore. It is a complete encyclopedia of all the main games up to Zero and it is brilliant. Let's see what we get, shall we? - Mini-novelisations of the games, written from Rebecca's perspective for Zero, Jill's and Chris's for 1, and third-person for the others.
- Large biographies on all main characters, and smaller ones for pretty much every named character in the games.
- Detailed examinations of each and every monster, looking at how they were created (did you know that RE3's Drain Deimos were originally fleas? I didn't) and exploring how their particular physiologies enable them to perfom their outlandish attack moves.
- Every weapon and every item in every game examined and categorized.
- All files for all games, including the secret ones like RE3's Jill's Diary.
- Tons and tons of official artwork.
- Page after page of early character studies, enviroment planning, and various areas under varying amounts of construction. Included in this bit is a small avalanche of sketches for the fabled Resident Evil 1.5!
- Character relationship charts for each game, showing just how everyone knows everyone else.
- Histories of Umbrella, S.T.A.R.S., UBCS and the Ashford family.
- Detailed examinations of each virus and how they affect their victims.
- An article by a Japanese scientist on real life biohazards and how viral experimentation actually works.
- A glossary of key words in the series, including all the military blather that you probably didn't understand.
- A full list of credits for each game.
- And, probably, a partridge in a pear tree.
To say it's comprehensive is a bit of an understatement. Did you know, for instance, that Kenneth J. Sullivan's great passion is landscape gardening? Or that, at one point, RE2 was going to see Annette Birkin infected by the G-virus and mutate into a killing machine like her husband? If you're a drooling Resi nut and have a bit of spare cash, buy this. Buy the living hell out of it.

It doesn't identify them, just calls them "one of Umbrella's rivals". It does, however, note that this company created the Hunters that appear in Code Veronica, which I didn't realise.

I've ordered that book from Amazon at the price of £18 and am expecting it on Saturday. AM really looking forward to that book to tie up loose ends. Does it include the really dodgy Gameboy colour resident evil games?

Weren't they stuck on some kind of cruise ship? I mean, what kind of place is that for an experimental virus to be let loose? I mean, it'll probably blow up like everything else does in Resident Evil, which it seems to be a good and cheap way to get rid of evidence.

Does it include the really dodgy Gameboy colour resident evil games? Not in the main book, although there is a little table of all the obscure titles and when and where they were released. The only non-main (i.e. not 0-3 or Veronica) title that is referenced at all in the book's databases is Survivor, and that is only because Sheena Island is mentioned in 0's opening sequence. Incidentally, I believe Gaiden (the GBC game) has since been deemed non-canonical because it had a cliffhanger ending involving Leon that was not picked up on in 4.

You might be interested to know that Gaiden was made by M4 Limited rather then Capcom themselves. Which strongly suggests that it never happened in the RE timeline.

Regenerators are officially one of the creepiest, and hardest, level enemies I've ever faced.
The thing lost its entire upper body and it grew back! Sweet merciful carp, I'd rather fight the Verdugo in a box-room.

Regenerators are the only monsters in the whole RE series that can make me shiver in fear. That rasping sound they make which lets u knw they're around is scary and when they grow back (shudders).
Thank god for thermo sniper rifle.

I got the Resident Evil: Archives on Saturday and have finished reading it. It is very informative and has some excellent sketches of the enemies that you face. The Nemesis information was cool. I did not know that the Nemesis was originally a Tryant that was injected with the Nemesis virus/program. The japanese to English translation leaves something to desire as I found several sentences repeated and some gaps in sentences. Is there a plan on bringing out another edition with the Resident Evil 4 game information in it. Also, it said that Wesker was working for a rival company to Umbrella, yet he was using the Umbrella spy-satellite to monitor Ada and his mate Krauser said that they wanted to re-incarnate Umbrella. Whats up with that?

Speaking of Umbrella I have a question...
If (as res evil 4 says) Umbrella was finished, done and gone with after Racoon City, how comes they were still around in Gun Survivor, Code Veronica X, Dead Aim, etc?
