Just read Sonic Universe #55. And if I'm not mistaken, that's Adamis' work I see on the fan art page.

Every time someone takes a slash in New Mobotropolis they're peeing on NICOLE. I just want you all to think about that forever.

Yeah, Archie don't seem to like handles. I've seen work by other artists from DA and FA get printed and they always seem to get acknowledged by their real names, or their initials.

I actually bought this new issue of Sonic Universe making it the second Archie Sonic comic I've ever read.
Glad I gave it a try, there's some nice stuff (and rad to see Adamis show up) I'd prefer it if they didn't letter it to be ready for shrinking down to digest size but I get why they did.
I also like that all the protagonists are girls without it ever really being referred to or highlighted anywhere.
So yes, I read an Archie comic and it didn't kill me and I'll probably read another one.

Would you say now is as good a jumping on point as any? Maybe I should bite the bullet also....

I do recommend it. Under Ian Flynn the comic has gone from strength to strength. You could probably just jump on anywhere. There's apparently a big streamlining going on just now, re-designing and re-introducing the characters so it might be a good time.

There was a huge missed opportunity for a quality cricket joke.
I'm writing an angry letter to the editor as we speak.

Going to start reading again now the Mega Man crossover is done. You didn't like the crossover, it was one of the best things ever in the comic. The art was simply fantastic in the last four issues and the plot really picked up as well.

I found it impossible to be interested in the crossover, due to having no interest in Mega Man whatsoever.

The soft reboot in #252 is hilarious, because suddenly every plotline from before has gone away and so have the cliffhangers from the last pre-crossover issue and it's basically saying "all that time with King Naugus and the Secret Freedom Fighters was pointless all along".
It's also a bit weird seeing King Max back on his feet and being nice, I don't think Archie's ever done that (bar pre-Robotnik flashbacks).

It's incredibly disappointing. I appreciate that, in a lot of cases, the man probably didn't have a choice, but there's so much there that's just shrugged away. Ixis Naugus was bad enough, but I was crestfallen that the Metal Sally arc effectively ended off-panel. I do wonder whether to what extent the Mega Man crossover affected the decisions, and whether or not holding off on the crossover for a while would have changed any of it.

NICOLE calls Naugus "Wally" before he runs off. What's up with that?

Also, in SU #52, Marine says "buggers". That's... that's not a U-rated word in Australia, Archie. I appreciate that, in a lot of cases, the man probably didn't have a choice, but there's so much there that's just shrugged away. Ixis Naugus was bad enough, but I was crestfallen that the Metal Sally arc effectively ended off-panel. And even though Sonic's mentioning "stuff changed", he doesn't mention that people are missing - like the person who was King one minute ago from his perspective.

Despite how angry I am about that missed opportunity for a cricket joke (so angry) I have preordered the rest of this Sonic Universe arc. Not sure if I'll be getting the next storyline, gonna see how I do with these next three issues.
While the sudden crazy changes (as brought about by court order essentially) must be infuriating for long term fans it's pretty good if you're a new reader

That's true. If you're a new reader, this is a great jump-on point
EDIT: I actually like the idea that after three years, the Naugus arc ends because Naugus goes "oh sod this" and runs off and everything regarding the Secret Freedom Fighters was actually pointless. That'd be hilarious.

It's not at all the big changes that irk me. In fact, I like most of the new designs, and I think a minor reboot is absolutely a great way to streamline the universe and get everyone back on the same boat. It's the fact that all of the old stories were simply handwaved away that gets my dander up. There is absolutely no sense of closure or climax to any of these plots. Again, that was probably necessity and hopefully I'll have forgotten it within a couple of issues when the new material gets going, but I think it is something worth being upset about.

Exactly. I was looking forward to the end of the Mecha Sally arc - Silver had just identified the Traitor, the Freedom Fighters were on their final offensive against Eggman (and the Tails Doll vagina-monster) and now we don't get to see the payoff of all that build up? How long was all this going on? A year? Maybe two? That is extremely annoying, but yes... great for new readers and by the sounds of the interviews at SoS, 2013 is Sonic Reboot year, so perhaps this includes the Archie comic?

So, a bunch of Sonic fans asked Penders about a licensing deal - where fans will use Kickstarter to pay for the deal on Archie's behalf. This is a terrible idea. Even Penders is going "eeeehhhhhh" about it in public, though not so much that he isn't promoting the damn thing and being "supportive". That wouldn't bother me so much - it would definitely bother me but still - if the last pre-crossover story hadn't ended on a cliffhanger, and it was a cliffhanger related to multiple running subplots and implying they were going to get wrapped up. What stopped them being wrapped up?! It just takes the mickey.
