Here's my take:
Cream: How can you say no? Vanilla: No. Any Chaos: No. Please no. Don't for your sake. (I like the idea of a doll) Blaze: Yes! More cats. Cats will rule. Silver: ...Yes... his powers are so cool... how can you resist telekinesis?! He's like an Anti-Super Sonic. (Ooh, good idea...)
Scratch and Grounder: Nooooo!!! Please no. I couldn't stand them through the Archie Comics, or the Sonic Christmas Special. Coconuts: See above. Pretty dorky jokes.
Bring Johnny back from the dead, only evil. Cream should not be related to him. Kill off Porker. Bring out the aliens, and bring back Robotnik.
Kill Sonic. How's that for an idea?!

Sonic Rush adaptation: Sonic fights off bad enemy placement and bottomless pits for seven issues.

I think we (and by "we" I mean everyone who's not on staff) once tossed about the idea of the Drakons making their own Shadow in the form of Silver.
However, I still don't want to see Silver show up, since he'd likely cause another long arc.

Hmmm... A Shadow in the form of Silver. If they never really explain Silver as himself, then the plot would never make sense. A Shadow that looks like a hedgehog who looks like a copy of Sonic and who is never explained to the readers, but rather left up to them having to find out for themselves.
Ow. Even that makes me hurt.
I had an idea for a dark sort of replica of Tails, but called Amobea, with the premise that real amobeas form to the shape of darkness and shadows to ensure their own survival. Interesting little science fact for the sci-fans, and interesting character for the rest. However, it's not going to happen in my fan-fic any time soon.
I really don't get why everyone is so against Silver. I played the games and read some fan-fic, so I don't really get what's so toxic about this particular character. Or is it just me.
Sonic seems a bit too full of himself (Gee whiz, That took me a while to figure out. ;p) to be truly heroic. He has his moments, but he's a bit too much like Puffed Wheat to be the selfless hero type that would be best for Mobius. If he lost a bit of the pride, he might be easier to get along with for the rest of the team, however, I think it's the only thing that humanises him.
Prehaps loss would make him more likable. We could introduce and then quickly kill off Silver. Then everyone's happy. But how do we get them to be friends...

Because he was a new character (a cardinal sin these days, apparently...) introduced in a game everyone hated, thus most weren't prepared to even give him a chance. Shame, really. With a bit of tweaking and refinement, I always felt the character had some potential.

Have him turn out to be a Drakon creation using plundered Echidna tech. Don't go by what fan fics say. I have nothing against the character (never played the game, so won't call him great or terrible), but from what I know of his story, there is potential. Kinda the point. Nigel Kitching wrote that Knuckles is the closest thing to a classic hero in the series. thats why Sonic doesn't like him, because he's better than Sonic is. Which would elimate the humour inherent in their exchanges. Also, someones personality doesn't change over night. Like Johnny?

I really don't get why everyone is so against Silver. I played the games and read some fan-fic, so I don't really get what's so toxic about this particular character. Or is it just me. Having played the game myself, I can tell you why exactly I hate Silver. First off, I hate his appearance. He absolutely looks like a fan-character, and a professional design team should know better. Saying he's a Sonic recolour is too generous, because to say that would imply he looks like Sonic, ie. cool. He doesn't, though; he looks cack. He actually looks to me like a Shadow mod. I mean, I frown on the practice, but I admit that it is possible to modify an existing character and emerge with something that actually looks cool. How the hell did Sega end up with this... thing?! Also annoying is the fact that, out of all the animals in the world (and keep in mind mammals are the smallest animal group), they went with ANOTHER. [censored]ING. HEDGEHOG. Second, his personality his hopelessly cliche. I found him utterly detestable. In fact, he doesn't have any personality at all. Sega have never learned the lesson that abilities are not the same as character traits. He's just such a huge non-entity, worthless on every level. At least Shadow was somewhat interesting before Sega butchered his legacy post-mortem; Silver has nothing going for him at all. This is why I honestly never want to see Silver pollute the pages of STCO; he's the only new character in the series that I absolutely hate (okay, maybe "hate" is too strong a word, but definitely a vivid dislike). With other characters I've groaned in a "oh no, not again" way, but they've usually had cool design to compensate. Silver doesn't even have that. On the other hand, STCO did take Shadow the Angsty Bumcloud and actually made him into a much better-developed and more sympathetic character. They'd have to pull off a minor bloody miracle to make Silver into a likeable character though. In all honesty though, the only post-Adventure characters I've really liked were the robots, Gamma and Omega; Gamma because he had an interesting story, and Omega because he's a psychotic killing machine.

I want Silver in the comic. His design is not that close to Sonic, his spines are different, different colors...well, the only similarities are the style, the muzzle (well, he's a hedgehog) and that's it. I don't see why him as a hedgehog is a problem, Sonic and Amy are not supposed to be the last hedgehogs on Mobius. We even have more echidnas in the games than hedgehogs (Shade, Tikal, Pachacamac, Knuckles, Ix, Nestor, the space-pirates and all the Marauders) and nobody complain. It's maybe because I love time-travelling stories but I loved his story in Sonic 06. Of course StCO shouldn't adapt it completely but just take some of the better points and make a good story. I'd like Blaze too. Not too fan of the Babylon Rogues. One story with those birds should suffice. I don't think Shade and the events of Chronicles would fit in the StC universe, sadly. But if we can do something for it, I'm also all for it. -Added spoiler tags as you mentioned spoilers. =P Cal.

I had an idea for Silver, which was rejected...
Basically, it would have been him and Blaze, fighting Iblis for three pages, then the fourth would have the discovery that its not the future, Silver is in fact trapped in a matrix-esque machine, created by the Drakons, to instill this fear of Sonic going evil (Iblis would have been Super Sonic). Then it would have ended with a virus called Mephiles taking control, locking the Drakons out.
Looking back, it really wasn't very good.

The echidna elements may be too close to Archie territory for some, but in the right hands I'd say a Chronicles adaptation is perfectly do-able somewhere down the road.

I said that mostly because of
-the echidnas's rivals being the Drakon -should Knuckles meet more echidnas?

It's easily attaptable; a bitter civil war between the Echidnas, thus creating the two tribes. In an attempt to remove one tribe, the Drakons could have created a warp to the Twilight Cage. Believing the Nocterenes were defeated by the Drakons, but finding no evidence, Pachamac's tribe believed they had simply fled. In swoop the Drakons, and defeat Knuckles' people, with the details left undisclosed.
As for Knuckles meeting more Echidnas; Shade could be something else, such as a robot, or a past ally of the Nocturne, who can fill in some of the details, but not be an Echidna herself.

Cream was supposed to be in an Ed strip aaaaaaaaaages ago - about the time of the Shadow arc, but it got canceled. As previously stated, the little rabbit is now under Tom's command.
Someone mentioned Bark - I'd do it if I had a good idea on how to implement him interestingly, but that hasn't happened yet. Plus it's kind of unecessary, isn't it?
The subject on how to do Blaze was one of much controversy a while back, but she's a fave character of the STCO team so it's something that's inevitable. I'm not a fan of Silver. I would like our interpretation of him to do an MGS4 Raiden, and make a hated character awesome somehow. The one thing I admire about Silver is that he has potential as a character that the games have failed to realise. That's sort of a window of opportunity for us. I don't think his character design is particularly bad, but that said I would recommend the STCO version to be be redesigned visually in order to distance him a little from the unpopular game version.
I don't really think there's too many characters yet. It's kinda like the Simpsons, in that there's this really big ensemble cast of major and minor characters, but it'll always come back to Homer, or in our case Sonic. I think we've done a pretty awesome job of keeping tabs on all our characters. I was really worried that we were leaving Rouge to be forgotten about, but then Rob Frazer saved that thread. I think introducing new characters is good because it keeps it all fresh - and they don't have to be recurring.

I had a Silver idea once. Basically, Silver was a new hero who appeared out of nowhere, believed by everyone to be Metallix. Eventually he proved that this wasn't so and became the most popular heroic sort on Mobius. However, it turned out that he was Metallix; he just didn't realise it...
At that point I gave up.

Well, after that rant on Silver, I thought I'd try and balance it with who I wouldn't mind seeing (if interesting ideas can be found to include them). I wouldn't mind seeing Cream; I think an STC portrayal of her could potentially be cool. In in two minds about the idea of her being related to Johnny; it could be a nice bit of character background, but it could go horribly wrong. Definitely get rid of Cheese, though; maybe give her a slingshot instead. Blaze is another I wouldn't mind seeing. I remember someone mentioned her as a possible rival to Ebony; perhaps she could be a student of Ebony's own nemesis, Omen? Others, I have a hard time picturing how they could work.

Without going through 7 pages of replies, have we mentioned the return of the Nameless Zone? But only this time, maybe we could expand on it a little more than what STC has done? Maybe it's time that Sonic finally found out about Tails' trips to the Nameless Zone, and that they hailed 'Miles Prower' as their hero - and Sonic being the "side-kick". Now that will bring on some interesting story and friendship twists!

I'd have thought Journey To The Crossroads did that already - the usual good/evil fantasy-genre dynamic is replaced with a more difficult and ambigious set-up, with Tails still out of his depth but for entirely different reasons.
