To be honest, most fairy tales were pretty hardcore stuff until they were Disney-fied.

The Batman R.I.P arc sucks. Batman Zur-En-Arrh? [censored] off, that's [censored]. And Alfred could be his dad? Erm....just no.

I've been re-reading a fair bit of Grant Morrisson and Howard Porter's run on JLA. Much better, in my opinion, than the similarly revived JSA series written by Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer.

I've read some of his JLA stuff, was pretty decent but so far this Batman R.I.P arc has been pure pish

I think he's better at writing Kirby-style characters who can blow up the universe by thinking about it.

I splurged (£30) on another 3 volumes of Usagi Yojimbo, because Stan Sakai's, y'know, a genius. I have about 5 comics and manga series' I'm slowly accumulating, because I like to rotate my purchases and keep it refreshing. But with the slowing of my buying over the last while, I think it's been more than a year since I bought any Usagi Yojimbo. Pity, because it means I'm still on the (nonetheless excellent) early stuff, with the all-time-best chapters/arcs are volumes away.

Usagi Yojimbo, you say? I was once berated on a site for referring to it as "ronin Redwall". I guess I deserved it, seeing as I've not actually read the stuff.
I digress. Is it worth picking up, then?

Yeah, it's more like Rabbit Shi Long Pang than anything like Redwall, for better or worse - though of course, it predates both. Definitely worth picking up, but - like STC - it starts off with more trope-filled plots, mostly short and self-contained, and eventually moves on to the stuff for which the title gained its reputation. There are a few gems among the early stuff, but for the most part it's finding its feet. The actual series is a bit marmitey with mates of mine, and I expect that's generally how it is with most. It moves at a pretty sedate pace mostly, exploring or highlighting folk-stories, historic events and/or ways of life in Feudal Japan, while the action scenes are frenetic and mostly over in a couple of panels, with exceptions. So it's not a Japanese philosophy book, and it's not an all-out action title. As a (very) long running all-ages (but not targeted at kids) comic series, it finds a balance between them, without neglecting either one. There's some award-winning standalone chapters, but also some STC-rivalling story arcs. It's also a lot more coherent than any long-running series by Marvel or DC! So yeah, I like it enough to rant for pages on a message board at the slightest prompting. The volumes are about a fiver on Amazon, I'd say it's worth checking out.

I may just do that.
Anyway, I was also re-reading JSA: Lost recently. I can only wonder; will Rex Tyler ever rebuild the android Hourman?

Just read Jokers asylumn: Scarecrow. A little disappointing...I was hoping for his character to be fully looked into, but instead he seemed to be the background character...in his own comic. sigh. Jokers asylumn: Two face on the other hand was fantastic.

I found the first two books cheap on amazon, so I sent for them (and Watchmen).

Watchmen is a novel hybrid, so be prepared to read lots of full-text pages!

Man, speaking of Star Wars and Usagi Yojimbo on the same page makes me want to pick up Space Usagi.

I got Joker's Last Laugh. Haven't quite finished it yet. Its a very different beast to Killing Joke...
Quite like it though. Its a bit "What if Joker had an army?" And a lot of dark humour stuff in there.

And a lot of dark humour stuff in there. Currently re-reading No Man's Land. Last Laugh was my next target. Just read Batman:Devil's Advocate. Was pretty good. I like a lot of the Joker stories, so maybe his appearance in the latest Batman comic will be enough to save a failing storyline...

Watchmen arrived today, so I'm reading it. I'm not far in enough to form a decent opinion, but I think it's not too bad so far.

I can only assume it's what will follow the Ultimates 3 following the Ultimatum event (if it ever actually starts...).

I read the Safeword story in the fourth trade of Y: The Last Man recently and am amused that agent 711 will be in the movie. Heh he he, poor Shia LaBeouf...
