www.stconline.co.ukThe replacement discussion thread for the issue. Lets here some thought out reviews, compliments, feedback and opinions, folks. Of course, I need not remind you all the mod team is religiously watching this thread now. There won't be any softly softly moderator responces in here now. Keep it fun, keep it mature and keep it on topic. Have fun.

Tekno is meeeean. The more I think about that strip the more unsettled I am.

I don't think she killed Set. Regardless of how dire the situation was, I just don't see a killer in her (cue the butchery of her soaked in blood). I think it'll end up as her swinging the rod next to his head, and giving him some sort of warning.

I started to think along those lines, seeing as the actual blow isn't seen. Although it is very heavily implied she does kill him.
If she did, I reckon what happens to her later on will be more important, if that makes any sense. If Tekno continues down a slide into madness then I think that would be too similar to what's happened to Robotnik.

This is what I want to see happen. As long as this action has a consequence/followup it's all good. (As opposed to being a show of 'darker' plotlines because Tekno killed someone)

Come on, Pete, of course Tekno killed Set. Even setting aside matters of her background that we brought up in the last thread, there wouldn't be any need for the implicit cutaway otherwise, or her dark, heavy sobriety in the final page (which indicates that something more momentous than a telling-off transpired). She even comes right out and says "you might have lived to see the sunrise"!

Think of it like the Family of Blood in Doctor Who- each one is tortured, yet kept alive for all eternity. Perhaps Set is locked away in one of the prison cells. In fact, that would make good sense, as it's quite poetic, since it was she that created Megatal (if I recall correctly), which was used to imprison Shorty. Due to her mounting guilt for doubting him over the kidnappings (which was a result of Set anyway), as well as the whole armor in general, Tekno could be giving Set a taste of his own medicine.

Amy and Tails look nice on the cover. It's a nice one.
Strip one: I liked Tails' rehersing his lines. Not someone with hair like that, rent this, lol. It's so old yet, so nice. Not giving up I see. The dress was strange though.
Strip two: Interesting. Tekno did something back there and from the butchery thread, I expect something as good as that. Someone mentioned a slide into madness, that wall with all of those calculations scream at hysteria. She's not well. But we'll see, although it would be anticlimatic if she didn't do anything mean to him (I'm nots aying she needed to kill him though).
Strip three: Lovely art is lovely. I still have yet to read it again to have something to say about it than this though.
Strip four: Knuckles had that coming, always getting the emerald stolen. I'm developing you as a guardian made me laugh. Very good strip I think. I'm looking forward for the next, although I'm a bit meh about more echidnas.

I found Corker's art to be lovely too, once I actually found it behind all the speech bubbles. (humourous exaggeration to make a point, not to be misinterpreted as insult)
I mentioned it last issue; there needs to be a better balance of what's shown in the images and what's said. And is all that talk really necessary? Could it be cut down? Maybe the speech-heavy panels should be the larger panels?
(I hope it's okay to be posting this criticism)

I like the way that Alex draws Sonic. Sonic looks, I dunno, cute. Oldschool. Go-Go, Alex, I want more! I agree with Tor here. Too much talkin', I think, isn't that necessary.

Oh yeah, I forgot to point this out, but why does House of the Dead Review has "some might find it offensive" as a bad point to begin with? It's marketed like that to begin with! If it's because of the searing, than it does have too much, that I can agree with.

I don't think a loss of sanity can be used as justification for why a character didn't kill a villain. And if that were the case it'd be [censored]ing awful.

She killed Set. If a member of the writing staff has said it happened that way, then that's how it happened.
My only concern is the direction the story will inevitably head now. Either Tekno will be remorseful (lots of guilt and depression stories), find killing a justified method of dealing with the enemy (lots of broody anti-hero stuff), or will go insane (best of the bunch, particularly if she avoids the "dribbling wreck" like Robotnik, and uses her scientific mind to make madcap inventions).

Personally I would see the continuation of the Shorty and Tekno arc to have scenes which display how unsettled Tekno has become in order to help convey to us what direction the writing team is heading in.
I can imagine a market scene where Shorty is trying to haggle with a trader over the price of an item and then Tekno suddenly flips and orders the guy to accept their offer or shove it and he agrees out of shock. Obviously afterwards Shorty would be forced to be the voice of reason explaining to Tekno that she shouldn't have done that and that they shouldn't draw attention to themselves. I like the idea that Tekno is plagued by what she's done even though at the time it seemed like the right thing due to the state she's in. It could prove to be a great way to further the Shorty and Tekno relationship with Shorty being the calmer and more rationalised one and Tekno being short-tempered and aggressive.
I still liked the issue regardless of minor niggles which were mostly lettering and chronological problems such as 'honorable' used instead of 'honourable', and the unfortunate placing of certain stories making things a little confusing to follow at times. To be fair though, I'm just happy for more STC. I look forward to #250 and all that follows after.
I may not be particularly popular amongst you all but I respect members opinions and especially the effort of the staff who take time out of their own lives to try and continue a comic we all adore so much.

She could be the anti-Robotnik as it were; instead of going insane inwardly like he has, she could be outwardly disturbed. The problem is, would that turn her into a villain?

Oh. I remember drawing lady Shadow... I felt quite pleased to see how, erm, hot she was... Yes, female Shadow could be AWESOME in StCO!

Cool! She could be the anti-Robotnik as it were; instead of going insane inwardly like he has, she could be outwardly disturbed. The problem is, would that turn her into a villain? That's where I sort of hope this is going. Maybe. Bit of an obvious move IMO, but could be done well. Whereas this I kinda like, but also, really don't want to see happen. This would be a return to a more childish moral-of-the-story-esque strip, which really isn't needed. It's nice to have a bit of a deeper message in literature other than "You are doing the wrong thing. That is bad." Something more along the lines of Grimer's suffering earlier in STCO (Name escapes me) carried much more emotive message than anything this plot could accomplish.

I'm not, I'm being honest. Well I meant more like a rift between them putting pressure on their relationship. More hints as the story goes on that Tekno has gone a bit loopy and Shorty is forced to take up more responsibility and do things he never has before. I'd like to see Shorty grow as a character like we saw as he kept himself and Tekno fed and watered while she went to pieces. I thought it was good for him to be more than the short-tempered cybernik who reminds us of his grudge against Robotnik everytime he enters the scene.

Thats a good point actually, they do seem to have switched roles. Shorty was always the one who was quickest to fly off the handle over the smallest thing, and is the one that I'd have expected to be the first to take a life out of the two of them, whereas Tekno was the logical, calm one. Quite a nice role reversal.
