I'm not impressed. Admittedly the point of view shot was cool but it's not enough to salvage it. Right from the off I hated the suit, the actor choice and the general idea of a reboot this close to the previous trilogy. However, I chose to hope that the trailer would silence my doubts and get my excited for a new Spidey. Needless to say, I'm not happy and for some reason kind of angry :S

the general idea of a reboot this close to the previous trilogy. I was kind of irritated about this until this morning I suddenly realised that when this comes out there'll be a hell of a lot of kids in the audience who weren't even born when the first Maguire movie was released. So suddenly it all seemed more reasonable.

And then you wake up this time next week, see Cap, then realise that if Sony hadn't made this, Marvel could have made their reboot and had Spidey in Avengers 2.
Then you cry and wish you lived in an alternate universe where Sony weren't [censored]s.

I...don't actually care that much. Sorry. I'll probably go and see Avengers when it's out, but...yeah. Not that bothered if Spidey's in it or not. Anyone would think that Sony enjoy making money or something

I'd be happy for them to make money AND a good movie at the same time. The reality is that they'll probably get their money, but we won't get a good movie in return.
I can't really bring myself to care that Sony would lose out on money of a by-the-numbers rehash by letting Marvel have the license back and make a proper movie out of it.

I don't care that Spidey's absent from the current (and possibly future) Avengers line-ups, since it means that other Marvel guys and gals get to shine. The same goes for the X-Men.
While it would be nice for Marvel to get to have their own stab at adapting Spider-Man and X-Men for the big screen, I'm not going to be shedding tears over the situation in the slightest.

Sony have announced the release date of 2nd May 2014 for 'The Amazing Spiderman 2'.
Premature, much?

(that last one sounds considerably ruder than I intended)

What, they're not going to run with "Spectacular Spider-Man"? Or are they trying to avoid that one because it'll make all the fans of the show cry?

Well, it's not as if the firm title is Amazing Spider-Man 2 anyway, but they're probably keeping all the other handy adjectives on standby for the next reboots.

Looks good. Looks very good.

It actually looks far more awesome than it probably should. I do love the hints we're seeing that we'll finally get Spidey's true character coming out here, but I do have a few issues:
1) The high school stuff is still reeking of Twilight emo campness. It's a pretty shallow attempt to cash in on that when, seeing as it's Spider-Man, it really doesn't need to stoop so low to make bread.
2) Captain Stacey reminds me so much of Willem Dafoe that for a second in that trailer, I actually thought it was him as Norman Osborne. He also seems rather out of character, a bit too mean and menacing.
3) Do we really have to go through the whole "we need to see the lead actor's face in most of the scenes, so we have to get rid of that mask in any fight that actually counts" [censored]? We're supposed to just accept that he can run around the whole of New York not wearing the mask and NOT end up on a camera somewhere, or be recognised? He wears the mask for a reason, stick to the story - not bending to the whims of some greedy agent rubbing his hands at the commission he makes on every second Garfield's face is on the screen.
4) The Lizard just isn't the lizard without a lab coat. Sorry. I know there's plenty of canon coat-less Lizard stuff, but at least give us a good shot in the movie itself of him wearing it as a shout out or something.
Otherwise, I'm impressed. Also, it looks like they're also adapting features from the Venom storyline in Ultimate Spider-Man, so maybe we'll get a good chance at a better use of Venom in Amazing 2? Hell, if they just straight adapt that story, they've got a fantastic winning formula. Lots of other Ultimatey stuff shining through, and I hope they stick to it with even more. Which, given that Bendis was a supervisor and advisor for the script, I'd expect to see.

When Spidey was talking in that thug's car, it sounded like Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spidey).

Looks terrible. They're trying to make the series into Batman Beyond, which is should never be. Spider-Man is a series that has serious and dark moments, but it's certainly not the bleak world that this movie seems to be creating. Even Ultimate Spiderman, which is arguably darker than the other incarnations, isn't this dark.

Before I saw the trailer - I wanted to go see it in the cinema. After I saw the trailer - ...ehhh.
I know they wanted to reboot Spidy like Batman did, but this is...dark. Too dark for Spidy. The overly dramatic music in this trailer has really put me off too. I can understand it being slightly dark, because of him creating the Lizard, but...ehhh. Everything else is slightly annoying me.

I'm still of the opinion that it's quite likely Sony is mis-selling this movie with the trailers, and that the movie will actually be quite different. But it's looking less and less likely.
Still, the 3D on the trailer I saw with Avengers was really nice. Actually looks worth the extra cost of the 3D glasses for once.

I've seen it, it's good stuff. Much better than 3, but then 3 was poo.
I think Maguire made the better Peter Parker, but Garfield is better as Spider-Man.
And Gwen is less annoying than MJ tbh.

Seen it twice. Preferred it to all of the Raimi films, but I was never a big fan of Tobey Maguire, so that's probably part of it. Plus, no cringe-inducing music montages - always a plus. Looking forward to the sequel far more than I thought I would.

I saw this. TBH I don't really have a lot to say. It was okay. Not amazing, not awful, just okay. Two bits, firstly, this was very obviously made to be a part of a trilogy, so I'm not surprised they announced the sequel before this was out. Couple of points Not at all surprised that the head of the police died. Thought it was odd that he'd reveal himself and have nothing come of it.
The death of uncle Ben was actually handled really well, certainly with a lot more gravitas than the first film was. I also really liked the way they updated it, seems a lot more credible, and Peter's actions seem to have a better direct bearing with Ben out searching for a runaway peter when he gets killed, instead of it merely just being that he was out while Peter was at a wrestling event.
Also, I have no idea who was talking to the Lizard at the end in the jail cell, but it's obvious that the lizard will come back.

Norman Osborn, maybe? I'm not convinced he was actually there, tbh. Mutating into a giant human/lizard hybrid repeatedly probably took its toll on Connor's sanity. I think it was more to imply that there was more to the deaths of Peter's parents than Connors was willing to let on to Peter himself, and that someone else was behind it.
