Nice. Looks more "home made" than Maguire's suit.

Yep, that looks like Spider-Man's costume, alright.

Nice. Looks more "home made" than Maguire's suit. That's funny, I've seen plenty of people saying the exact opposite. Personally, something about it looks 'off' to me, but maybe it'll look alright in action with the mask on. I'm really not holding out any real optimism for this movie being great, but it'd be a pleasant surprise if it turns out to be as good as or better than the first Raimi Spider-Man. The thing I'm hoping for the most is we finally get our wisecracking sarcastic Spidey on screen while he kicks the bad guys heads in - but honestly, this first promo shot reeks of the emo 'dark' Spidey of Spider-Man 3. He even looks like he's already skipped well ahead to the "No more Spider-Man" storyline, though I'd hope that isn't the case.

There was a video of a screen test (not Garfields, Josh Hutcherson) that had a fight between Parker and a few bullies. Video here. The fight itself is quite cool, and there's a little joke at the end. This could have (and probably has) changed in the time since, but still.

I really hope that ends up nowhere near the final film.
1) The first part of that fight is lifted right out of Raimi's first Spider-Man. 2) The entire rest of the fight just gets absolutely ludicrous as something Peter Parker should be capable of doing. I know a lot of suspension of disbelief has to come into play when it comes to secret identities but even Flash Thompson could work out who Spider-Man was after getting beaten to the ground by someone who fights exactly like he does and can flip around like a ninja on crack. 3) That's really no more of the wisecracking Spidey than we saw under Raimi. In all other Spider-Man incarnations, Spider-Man would be bouncing around, throwing out wisecracks between punches. Without it, he comes off way too serious and just not as much fun. That's just not Spider-Man's character.
I realise I'm banging on about it now, but it really, really irked me across all 3 Raimi films and if it continues in this huge opportunity to wipe the slate clean and find at least ONE improvement in getting the Spidey character down right over what Raimi achieved (which was otherwise pretty good until he sabotaged the third film) it'd be such a massive waste and really just emphasise the whole question of why this movie even exists.

At one point during the video, they were fighting to the same music as was used during Neo's fight scene in The Matrix Reloaded. Liked the joke at the end as well: "Late for class." *pats him on the cheek* Fight was awsome. New Spidey: Confirmed.

Looks perfectly Spidey enough, although I'd like to see the mask. Also, no belt? Where's he gonna keep his web cartridges? (Unless they do the same lame organic web-shooters from the previous films)

(Unless they do the same lame organic web-shooters from the previous films) Because obviously the idea of a high school student inventing NASA grade technology with the pure convenience of it fitting in with his new found abilities is a lot more realistic. The organic web shooters are not comic canon, but you won't find many people who disagree with the fact that they make a lot more sense. I remember being a bit disappointed that Ultimate Spidey didn't follow suit, despite being put out around the same time as the movie. Sure they went to great lengths to make it a bit more realistic (it actually comes from his Dad's work, he just cracks the formula and builds the mechanism) - but even that was stretching it quite far, and honestly, the whole plot mechanic of "I ran out of webz" is a really lame one that just serves to get in the way whenever it's pulled.

If we're going to go down the realistic route, Spider-Man, with organic web-shooters, would need to eat about 300 burgers every day to use them on a regular basis. He would have also probably mutated his lungs and asphyxiated.
That said, I do prefer the organic web-shooters, because as Alex said, it's just lame when he runs out for the sake of plot-convenience.

Valid points, but at the same time surely Spidey should shoot organic web out of his ass like a normal spider? Yeah, I know, it's gross. Plus a million other people have probably said the exact same thing and were equally ignored by the whole comic-reading community. Thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

I like it, it reminds me alot of Alex Ross's interpretation of Spiderman.

Apparently, new Spidey DOES have web shooters, according to the chick playing Gwen Stacey. If you look on his wrists in the photo, you can see a slight bulge which is assumed to be the device.
Personally, I'm really hoping that they go with the Ultimate universe on this one, rather than the high school student just happens to create this space-age material and propellant device conveniently just in time to give him the full gamut of spider abilities.

Is it just me or does that mask just ooze of "meh". Maybe its just that we don't have a proper picture of it yet, but it the eyes just don't look right.

Erm. The eyes aren't there. If the stuntman tried running around with those big white things over his eyes, he'd do himself major harm. This is a stunt suit - not the final suit as you'll see it on film. It's also not been colour graded as the top picture has been (which, with the camera they're using, will make the blues darker and the reds stand out more - as seen above). Ultimately, this shot is pretty meaningless other than to say that Spider-Man will, on the whole, look like Spider-Man. That said, the design has a twinge of the Ben Reilly suit about it.

Yeah, I couldn't tell if they were there or not. I agree its got abit of Ben Reilly's suit and abit of the Alex Ross design to it.

Official pic, anyone? Definitely has a Reilly look to it, while still being recognisable as Spidey.

Sounds like Ultimate Spiderman without the humour.

Might as well repost this:
I watched the Spidey trailer before it was pulled and I can't begin to express how disappointing it was. Maybe the actual film will be a lot better tonally, but the trailer was like Sony was just ticking demographic boxes to get bums on seats. Dark Knight darkness/edgyness, check. Tween romance with a poofy haired, pouty, lanky English guy pretending to be American, check. A complete lack of humour, villains or anything that makes Spider-Man, y'know, SPIDER-MAN, check.
I really hope the final cut turns out to be a LOT better than what they're currently showing off.
It's just disappointing, really, that Sony's vision of Ultimate Spider-Man (which is seemingly their vision of it with their eyes closed) gets to sit in the cinemas for the next decade when we could have had MARVEL'S vision of it instead. It would have been nice, just once, to be able to go to the cinema and watch Spidey crack a joke or fight a bad guy once in a while instead of pouting and moaning about how his 'great responsibility' keeps standing in the way of him getting laid.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed by the trailer either. As Spidey says in the Spectacular cartoon, "My fans expect a certain amount of quippage in every battle." We also expect at least one quip in every trailer, Spidey. Why are you letting Sony rape you?
