I'm starting to think the Drakon Empire are as bad as Cipher from Pokemon, mixed with TMNT's Kraang.
For those not in the know, Cipher was the villainous team from Pokemon Colosseum. They turned Pokemon into Shadow Pokemon using a special process that "seals the door to their hearts", making them vicious killing machines devoid of compassion.
The Drakon Empire are a group of nefarious aliens from Sonic the Conic (Fleetway), who resembled fish and piloted robot armor. They tried to conquer Sonic's world. in Sonic the Comic: Online, it was revealed Rouge worked for them. In Sonic the Comic Online, Rouge is a ruthless, cold-blooded criminal who threatened to kill, unlike her flirty, playful game self. She has no redeeming moments of any kind and is usually a serious threat. Just like how Shadow Pokemon are. The Drakons also wanted to let Robotnik rule Mobuis after they took the Emeralds.
Maybe Rouge was put through a similar process to the Shadow Pokemon?
It isn't only Rouge though. The Babylon Rogues, Bean, Void, and Emerel all seem completely heartless. They are vicious and treated seriously. Could this mean they were also victims of the Drakon Empire?

How do you know it isn't Rouge in the games that's had her brain tampered with? That she's supposed to be like this… As I had mentioned in the opening post of this very topic, Rouge is not the only neutral/anti-hero character given the evil treatment, far from it. Bean the Dynamite, lovable bomber? He is a cold and calculating mastermind. Babylon Rogues, racer-thieves bound by some form of honor? No honor exists in these ones. Void, misguided, lonely little pixie from Maginary World? He knows what he's doing and is proud of it. And Emrel, freaking EMREL, lovable little robot with a tragic story? He's a certified sociopath! One thing that irks me is how you can turn someone who shoes some genuine bonds and even hints of romance towards Shadow and Knuckles, and will help sometimes, into a selfish, murderous, monstrous sabeoteur. What's next? The Werehog as a vicious, feral, monstrosity driven by hunger and hunger alone? Chip as some horrific Lovecrafian monstrosity? Suicide bomber Marine? I'm sorry for being a broken record, just letting off steam induced by my biggest pet peeve concerning this comic.

STC, and by extension STC-O, isn't and hasn't for a long time been strictly bound by the games' plotlines and characterisations, that much should be apparent from even a cursory glance. Evidently, you seem rather deeply upset by the direction the comic and its content has taken, though provided you don't consider it to be beyond hope then feel free to offer some constructive criticism on whatever elements you believe could be improved. At the end of the day though, don't worry so much about it! It's a free, unofficial online publication which, rest assured, won't have any bearing or influence on the official games, productions and merchandise.

Yeah, I agree! A lot of STC-O characters have basically been taken and turned... well, I wouldn't say 'evil', but selfish. I think it worked great for Shadow. Kept all of his emotional depth but firmly established him as a villain. The problem is, miru, that we don't really have the time nor the room to really establish all these characters and flesh them out. And that's a criticism, it really is! I had three parts to play with Emerl, and I didn't really have the room to have him undergo a character arc. As far as Rouge goes, I have to say, I don't see where you're getting murderous and monstrous. She's out for herself, but she's not psychotic: she's never really hurt anyone beyond their pride. Besides which, we've not really revealed where Rouge's TRUE allegiances lie...

I was hoping for mine and Madhair's version of Blaze, where she's a sociopathic pyromaniac with an awesome costume. Insector did a cool sketch.
Anyway what were we talking about?

I think it really does come down to the fact STCO has a tradition of not following the games as closely as Archie does, really. Basically, the plot likes to play brain swap - it has the game character's body (and even that may be altered slightly, i.e. Knuckles' necklace or Silver's eyes) but can have a completely different mentality. Then you have some like Shadow, who aren't too far from their original counterpart at all. It's mix and match...
...which is precisely one reason I like this comic. I don't know what's coming. It's like the Walking Dead without the gratuitous 18+ material.
