So it seems some of you have some issues with moderators, and for whatever reason, you don't PM us about them and let them continue. SO! As a trial, there is now a thread in which you can tell us what you think is wrong, what you think is right, and discuss said wrongs and rights. That thread is this thread. Note: This is a serious thread, hence why its in the serious zone. Don't waste our time here, we're doing this for your benefit. If it falls into pit of ramblings and nonsense, its going, and that's the end of it.

Alright.
- Moderation is made too big a deal of. Moderator presence (in the role of moderators, naturally) should be minimal, with serious infringing of the rules resulting in a more official comment. As it stands we have promising debates/conversations being interrupted with "ENOUGH, I HAVE FORESEEN DRAMA", which is a bit Minority Report. Just saying "careful now" would suffice - that's usually all it takes for people to see that they're being unreasonable.
- Don't make threats, regardless of how veiled they are.
- Try to avoid patronising us. I mean... there's a comment in the first post here ("we're doing this for your benefit") which sounds like my mum.
- You're people first and mods second.
- Also, "ramblings and nonsense" are subjective, depending on whether people understand them or not.
Peace.

"ramblings and nonsense" means more "LOL U ALL SUK" type of thing.

LOL U ALL SUK
I pretty much echo all of Stu's comments.
If someone disagrees with you about something, this is not license to abuse your mad mod powers. Arguments, even heated arguments, are fine and should even be encouraged as they can promote discussion.
On a related note, don't lock something just because you can. If it's clearly a blatantly rulesmashing thread, fine. But if it's iffy, it's iffy. Give it a trial run before acting hastily.
Also, if someone says something you find offensive, don't edit their post to remove it. If it's even necessary, put spoiler tags around it and add a note remarking why.
Moderation should be done in moderation. Don't become Big Brother, it makes things less fun. Everyone's been pretty good about it so far.
also x for mod
EDIT: also sticky this?

The fact this thread exists shows that this modding business is serious, and it shouldn't be.
It's meant to be a fun and informative forum, but once we go down this route things won't be the same again. I HAVE FORESEEN DRAMA.

There's only been one incidence of this happening to my knowledge, and yes I disagreed with it but there wasn't much that could be done once it had been removed. :/ As far as I know we're supposed to put notes on peoples profiles if a really offensive comment is made but I have to say a lot of stuff said on here is in jest, or at least thats my understanding from people's posting style.

OMG BRYCE HAS PSYCHIC POWERZ!!!!!!1 I only interfere with threads when I see fit. There are certain threads I keep an eye on, but I will only step in when it gets REALLY out of hand. I admit I hate confrontation, but I'm not going to be a fascist about it and yell at you lot every time things get a bit heated. Sometimes disputes can be resolved on their own. The vast majority of you are generally sensible enough to not bring the drama. I'm aware I've not been around much recently and I apologise - I've moved house and had other real life stuff going on which has distracted me a bit. I'll try to come on more often as I'm aware Sin's not on much (not so sure about Retro).
Bow to me, my minions! Or I'll ban the [censored]ing lot of you.

Some people have accused this board, or the mods, or both, of being 'cliquey'. In what way do you feel that it's cliquey, and how should we get past that and stop it from being that way? Are we too harsh on new members, for instance?

There can be a sense of "WE ARE MODS HEAR US ROAR" on occasion and my solution to that is that you should all chill the [censored] out.
I've found that general cliquishness among members is unavoidable but certainly not always detrimental.

Celebrations Box to ex-moderators I'm having the Truffles, Milky Ways, Malteasers, Galaxy/caramels and Mars. Bryce can have the snickers. The rest of you get the Bountys.

Are we too harsh on new members, for instance? The tone of the board can come off as harsh and vicious, which gets excused as "oh it's just Member X having a laugh, they don't mean anything" when new members get confused - newbies might view that is cliquey. That said, how often do the mods lock threads, delete posts, ban people etc? Because it rarely seems to happen and yet half the posts in this thread act like there's constant purging of unpeople.

I'd like to stress at this point that I mean everything "harsh and vicious" that I post. It's the compliments and praise that are insincere.
No, they don't. It's been mentioned once or twice, and not once to the extent that you claim. You're making stuff up again.
