I don't know how many people here are into anime at all, but if you turn green at the thought of big eyes and spit tacks at the sight of sailor uniforms then this show might be an acceptable alternative, giving you a taste while having a neutral art style that is not too aesthetically objectionable. Cat [censored] One - known in the West for obvious censorship reasons as Apocalypse Meow - was a comic detailing the travails of a unit of American G.I.s in 'Nam. It was pretty hard-hitting, with an authentic and uncompromising view of the war... it just so happened that the G.I.s were all lop-eared bunny rabbits (USA G.I. = 'usagi', Japanese for 'rabbit'). A CGI-animated television series is now being prodcued, updating the setting to mercenaries in modern desert wars, with the first episode being recently released on internet streams. tinyurl.com/2wxu82oIt's purely action with no other subtext, but the action is very dramatic and realistically drawn, enjoying a verité feel without overexaggerating the shakycam - and ohmaigaaahd theyreso cuuuuuute lookitthosesoulfuleyes ijustwanna tweak their widdle whiskers... Ahem. Anyway, for those of you who didn't like the smoking characters in Death, Taxes, and Leaky Sandbags, watch this and count your blessings. This is what I'm always trying to turn STC into, before the rest of the Humes bind me in iron chains and force me to lube Megadroid's joints until I tone things down a bit.

So you're trying to turn Sonic the Hedgehog into a parody of the Vietnam war using different animals to represent different countries? Okay, that's it. I'm off. Lost all faith in everything.

Geez, joke. Unless you think that I've actually got a Haynes Maintenance Manual on Megadroid Series III 2003-2010 in my bookcase.

It's.... interesting. For one thing, I like the animation style, which makes a pleasant change from the usual standard anime style adopted by so many. As for the show itself, I realise it'strying to play it really straight, but I just can't seem to take the idea of a squad of semi-realistic cartoon animals taking part in a war based on real events seriously. It looks incredibly strange.
I do find it strangely enjoyable, though, of what I've seen so far. It hooks you from the off, which is always vital for the building blocks of success in any programme.

There was a thread about this years ago. Not that you should dig it up or anything, just making a pointless observation.
I watched Lucky Star today. It was excellent.
