I have to be honest I don't think that Alex days got it right..... same with his pokemon song really, he's just riding on popular opinion on sonic mixed with his own nostalgic memories....
if you think about it, sonic 1 had a story, sonic 2 had more of a story, and sonic 3 and knuckles had (for want of a better word) cut scenes and they were ace games. So sonic does need a story just a sonic colours esque story rather than sonic 2006, (but even that had the good nature to write it's self out of cannon)

Sonic Adventure was PRAISED for its storyline (in comparison its a bit sucky these days). The trouble is the retro fans of Sonic tend to ignore some of the progress the series did make. And this guy is just riding on what is commonly said. Sonic Colours is being praised as "the best" Sonic game in a while while Sonic 4 has mixed responses. Honestly, I didn't even think much of the song overall anyway, lyrics and the opinions expressed aside. Like many machina songs, its expressing fan taste but only applealing to fan tastes. In terms of music... I would fork out £££s for it.

Alex Day talks [censored] anyway. He once tried to claim that Pokémon was getting worse because they were introducing new Pokémon. Of course. Because things would all be better if they never progressed.
While I agree that story should never take precedence in games (apart from exceptional cases, such as in RPGs, or stuff like Heavy Rain which is basically all about story), I think having a bit of story or at least cutscenes add to a game (moreso if they're skippable - then nobody can really fault the games for them).
Finally, his singing's crap, the tune's crap (so it can't even get by on merit of that), and he seems to think that his opinion reflects the entirety of the fanbase's. "Sega, learn from your mistakes". Twit. I'm all for different opinions, and Sonic's stories can be pretty crap, but he's missed all the points entirely, in my eyes.

this guy obviosly doesn't know much about videogames! -_- about the pokemon thing, it's like saying that Monopoli is no fun anymore just because they put credit cards in it instead of using common cash......-_- Real problem with Pokemon is that they did almost exactely what STC did: they started selling the same thing over and over again with a different cover, and fans finally figured it out.... He is just one of those sick fans that want their childhood back! As you said shay some darn well made cutsceens make onlly the game richer; if you dislike them you can always jump them or roll your eyes away from the screen -_-

I must admit with pokemon, the creativity died which I found to be the biggest turn off. At Diamond and Pearl, I had gotten just about sick of seeing Zubat, Geodude and the usual ones. And even with the new Pokemon, most were just replacements for old pokemon and were basically the same thing with 1 move different or something stupid.
Which reminds me, Zero Punctuation mentioned Colours, apparent Yartzee (hope spet correctly), threw down the game at the first cutscene. Looks like he is one of those who doesnt' want any cutscenes in Sonic at all. Actually, Colour's cutscenes were the most joyable ones to watch in years from Sonic, or most games out there as it happens. And there was just the right amount to not be bothered about them.

Nah, Pokémon's done nothing but get better over the years, it's the nostalgia fanatics who say otherwise. Seriously, go back and play Red, against Platinum. I sure as Hell can't.
And Yahtzee will complain about anything. He's entertaining as [censored], but I never listen to his opinions.
