What of the many contraptions that Robotnik/Eggman has made/used is his most lethal and or best of the bunch. I say my favourite one is Egg Wyvern just an amazing fight with a giant Mech underneath the Egg Carrier. What would of made it even more incredible a time-limit as we knew the Egg Carrier was about to crash so a time limit would of given this boss a sense of urgency whats yours?

It's not a boss from the games, but Metal Robotnik remains one of my favourite mecha. I also quite like the Egg Beater and Egg Tarantula from the Archie comics (those would have been so epic if they were animated or actual game bosses).

I dunno if its the best, its probably one of the worst in terms of actually getting Sonic done-in, but I always love the conveyer belt bosses where you have to keep running or you get hit by X item. I count 2 of such bosses in the Sonic games I've played, always strikes me as one of the most iconic Sonic bosses past Sonic 1 wrecking ball.

To be honest, those bosses almost universally struck me as lazy, with maybe one exception, the three tiered spiked platform one in Sonic Advance 2. Otherwise it's just "dodge the item, try to get closer while ding so, and get a hit without being hit".

Drillcar and Squeeze Tag Machine. Quite like Angel Island's act 2 boss as well.

I hated the Wing Fortress boss as a kid, now I think it's genius.
Also, lol Egg Wyvern.

Egg Wyvern I hold up as one of the worst boss fights in gaming history, I'm afraid. Zero challenge. Zero tension. Way too long and glitched so much you can...well...Exu got there before me. Not to mention it's visually terrible as an environment. Sorry to those who like it, but.....ergh.
The best one I can remember to love fighting in terms of tension and impact was actually Sonic 1's final boss. Although I feel if I had to pick an overall "best" boss experience, I'd have to go with the Squeeze Tag Machine.

I know my worst one...
What was the name of the one in "Shadow the Hedgehog" with the combo machine in it? I've fought hard bosses over the years, but on rare occusions, that one can be impossible to keep up with even in the best of times. I wasted more time in that boss over any other. I don't know anyone who has said they liked it.

Was that the one where he had a setting built into his machine which caused it to harm itself? That made no sense to me, even as a kid. I mean, stupid patterns are one thing, but building a machine that actually has a detrimental setting? For [censored]'s sake.

If I recall, the Lava Reef Zone boss essentially kills itself. All Sonic has to do is keep away from it without falling into lava.

Except that that was a "basic design flaw", that's why Robotnik never used it.
And @cain: you're not wrong about the Lava Reef boss, although that was because of the lava flow. Robotnik built a machine which fires spiked balls, that makes sense. In the Shadow the Hedgehog roulette boss, he actually programmed the [censored]ing thing with a setting that fires missiles at itself randomly.

I think that's something to do with Shadow interfering with it, really. The mech never fires at itself unless Shadow messes with the slot machine, damaging it and causing it to fire at itself.

In the Shadow the Hedgehog roulette boss, he actually programmed the [censored]ing thing with a setting that fires missiles at itself randomly. The Lava Reef Boss makes double sense if you think about what follows immediately. Robotnik's just seen Knuckles, whose a few feet away from the Emerald chamber, push Sonic away from said Chamber. Robotnik knows Sonic is expecting a fight, but also that he doesn't have much time left to grab the Master Emerald, so Robotnik sends down a Mech which ultimately destroys itself, while commanding Knuckles to stay guard. That way, Robotnik can flee off, defeated, leaving Knuckles to fight Sonic, and while Robotnik is off pretending to repair his equipment, he's actually just removing the outer shell, flying to the emerald, and running off while Knuckles has his hands full. The reason Robotnik's boss will defeat itself without even trying, is that it's actually in Robotnik's best interest to stall until Knuckles is in place, and keep the ruse going infront of Sonic just a little longer. Every boss before this, on the oher hand, gives Robotnik plenty of time to snag the emerald while Knuckles is elsewhere, but this is the only time when Robotnik has to lose, so he sends a self defeating device.

I'm pretty sure none of this is the case. The volcano's just getting a bit hectic, so the lava's flowing every which way.
