Full 6 episode run, apparently actually shot in a studio this time (as opposed to a green screen, a shopping centre and Coronation Street...) with an audience and hopefully redeeming the rather mediocre quality of Back To Earth.

I confidently predict this will be dreadful.

Go away, troll. We all know you don't like Red Dwarf bar series one so why even bother posting in this thread?

Funny how he never said that before the last atrocity! I confidently predict this will be dreadful. Hate to say it, but I agree. After the brain rape that was Back-To-Earth, I don't honestly see how they can restore any credibility.

Go away, troll. We all know you don't like Red Dwarf bar series one so why even bother posting in this thread? Why even bother getting up in the morning? Why anything? The last thread was ages ago. Who is "we"? Who is "all"? What do "you all" stand for? Who are you identifying yourself with? Where is the divide? Do you think everyone here has read every post on the forum, or even read all of my posts? We are talking about two or three posts from over a year ago. Do you understand why I am restating my position? Do you know what a forum is, how it works? Are you aware that your experiences do not exactly mirror those of everyone else who posts here? Is "we all" you? What would you like to say next? Bear in mind I already know the answers to the above questions; I'm just not convinced that you do. With that knowledge, feel free to prolong this.

As long as it sticks to the core crew members I'm fine. As much as I think Hollister is a fine character, reviving everyone for series eight was such a rubbish idea. The entire point of the series as a whole was that everybody was dead, Dave. It's not as if I don't find series eight funny, but it's barely recognisable as Red Dwarf in some parts.

I can't really say I hold out much hope for this one. Go away, troll. We all know you don't like Red Dwarf bar series one so why even bother posting in this thread? Wow. Civil.

Hate to say I think this will be awful. I'd like it to be good, but if the last couple of Red Dwarf series are anything to go by, it probably won't. =/.

My approach to it is that they'd have to try pretty hard to be worse than Back To Earth. If they somehow manage it, then... well, disappointment, obviously. If not, then yay, more good Red Dwarf for me to enjoy.
I don't think it's fair to base judgement on what they can be capable of putting out in new Red Dwarf material based on one episode with a pretty poor idea at its core. A full 6 episode series, however, at least stands a chance at presenting a better demonstration.

Didn't you prattle on about it in the comedy thread that was active about a month ago?

Ah, yeah, you're mostly right; in Spud's thread, which was overall a negative thread (focusing as it did on comedies that kept on past their sell-by date). Ended with "I... dislike Red Dwarf. Feel free to ignore this." Would have been the second time I brought it up, and in a relevant context. Not really prattling on, but I suppose it's good to know who's paying attention. Thankfully it doesn't affect any of what I said.
What I do and don't post about isn't really open for policing by anyone besides the moderators. Nice to feel that I should avoid restating opinions, though. I'm sure everyone on the entire forum read the previous thread.
Now, let's discuss why this will be better than Back to Earth.

So it's back on Dave, like the really crap story. It's written by Naylor again, after he did the crap story. There's a report floating about where Barrie says it might follow the path the crap story set down. And it'll chronologically follow the crap story.
This is going to be crap, isn't it?

Hmm. It's difficult to know where to stand with this one. I can't help but wonder if this new series has arisen as something of an apology for "Back to Earth".
With any luck, the addition of a studio audience will make everyone step up their game a bit more. I think its a shame that Doug and Rob can't (or won't) reconcile their differences and work together on the show. It'd make for a pretty cool final run to have the original writers back.
Color me...cautiously optimistic.

Even though I know in my gut this will be crap I am going to still hold out hope that this will be good.
As for what L.T said about the rest of the crew reviving in series 8 at least we can be happy in the knowledge (if Back to Earth indicated correctly) that they are all dead... again. Minus Kochanski... ugh...

Chloe Annett's not mentioned as coming back (or Clare Grogan), even though Back To Earth ended with the implication that, since he knows she's still alive, Lister might try and find Kochanski. So that was a bit pointless then.
