I swear to God I once found Sonic 3 for the Master System listed in an Argos catalogue. The fact that I a) really wanted Sonic 3 and b) had an MS but not a Mega Drive at this point in my life had nothing to do with it. Not mad. This happened. I remember ripping the page out and excitedly showing it to friends at school. Oh I missed thee posts, yeah I remember this too, I remember looking in Toys 'r us for this back when they sold MS games. We had hope because there was a Mortal Kombat 2 MS version (turns out this version of the game was a disppointment, thank goodness my bro never bought this). One of the reasons why I berate degrees of the love for retro gaming is because when your a kid you believe things are better. I used to love "My Little Pony" and shows like "Rainbow Brite" when I was 5, looking at an old videos now... I'm like; "OMG what was I thinking?" Ironically, by the time I was 10 I was watching boys shows because "girls shows are boring".

I remember I assumed I could complete the game with my eyes shut, and damn right I did. None of you were there to dispute this fact so you just have to accept I'm telling the truth.

I reckon I'm not the only person to think this, but after completing the Dark story on SA2 and the post-credits video announced "Farewell, Sonic... Forever" I thought that meant that SA2 would be the last Sonic game ever. That reminded me of something else. I remembered reading in a number of places (Big Time magazine was one of them, I think Ceefax/Teletext and another game news website somewhere) that Sonic Adventure 2 was to be the Dreamcast's last Sonic game. For some reason I misinterpreted this to mean it was to be the last Sonic game to be made ever. This was around the time I'd gone off the Sonic series for a while. This misinterpretation of that bit of news was one of a number of things that renewed my interest. I was fairly relieved when I found I was wrong. I was gonna ask for a Dreamcast for Christmas with SA2 in '02, but as I discovered it was dying on its arse I got SA2B with the Gamecube instead.

I was convinced a Sega Saturn would play Mega CD games.

The guy who introduced me to the Sonic games told me that the Ice Cap Zone had sad music because it was where Sonic's dad died. I bought it.

You know that bit in the demo of Sonic 1 (that is, if you don't Press Start when prompted) showcasing Spring Yard Zone, where a Roller Badnik zooms past?
Well, as I'd never seen a Roller Badnik before, not being good at the game at the time, but being familiar with STC, I thought it was Sonic using a Time Stone to whizz past himself.

Wasn't there a letter in STC that had a fan mistaking him for a girl too?

That was Espio, iirc. And it wasn't really a "fan", more a rant against the character because "she's rude, pigheaded" etc. I remember this as it's on the back of an ancient Sonic R poster from the issue that still resides on my wall.

...I never used to pay attention to the message zone bits much.
The reason being is because at the time a friend of mine bought both the American and Brittish versions of the Beavis and Butthead comic. Despite the fact they were identical, the letters in the back were NOT real letters but had been invented to be printed in the comic. The difference was just the adresses the letters were from (towns) with the American comic using American town names and the Brittish comic using the Brittish towns.
Lets just say I never "believed" in letter sections after that and presumed they were all set up.

Lets just say I never "believed" in letter sections after that and presumed they were all set up. A letter in the very first Speedlines was made up (well, I'm guessing it was). I don't think they've done it since, but I could be wrong.

STC definitely seemed to have a few made up letters in its time - but on the whole, I think they were genuine. I know some people here have actually made it onto Speedlines - although I think that may have just been for art rather than letters? Can't really remember.

Mr Oldfash shouldn't have wasted his stamp on such a venemous letter if you ask me.

lol! Talking about dumbness, at the begginning I though Tails was a girl, Sonic adventure 2 and adventure 2 battles were compleatly different games (and that battle was some kind of expansion...).

I thought the same about Sonic adventure 2 as well. But even worse when Sonic Heroes came out and I was saving up my money to get it, upon reading the back of the box I assumed that all the members of team rose were meant to be love interests for team sonic. Therefore I thought Big was a girl.

In an inversion to this thread, where did that whole Tails/Cream being a couple thing arise from? I don't think they've actually interacted at all in the games. >_>;

I don't know I think it just made sense in the minds of some fans. Cream essentially was Amy's sidekick and Tails was Sonic's so it just made sense.

When I first got Sonic and Knuckles and learned of the lock on with Sonic 1, 2 and 3, I never dared attempt the lock on with any other game, believing for some reason it would break the catridges involved, or even the console. In fact, I never once tried it until sometime in either 98 or 99, very reluctantly, using some random game given to me that I wasn't interested in. To my suprise (and relief), it worked, and unlocked single bonus on most of my cartridges. Wouldn't work at all with some of them, like.
Well, that and I wanted to see "The Mildly Amusing Ass" written on the frontpage again.

On a sadly related note, if you try it with a cartridge that came after S&K, there's a decent chance it will wipe any battery back-up, as I sadly learned with Story of Thor.

When I was younger and hadn't yet played the game, I believed that Sonic Adventure was a remake of Sonic 3.
If only. Maybe then it would have been, perhaps, playable. Without the rosetint of nostalgia.

I spare Sonic Adventure too much hassle since it was the first. My expectations and assumptions were that everything bad in it would get better with the following games. It was because at the time, so many games were becoming 3D-ed I didn't want to descriminate and I was giving them all a chance to improve. SOME mechanics got better, but honestly, my assumptions weren't 100% correct with Sonic games.
Sonic Adventure still is one of my favourites in the series and would have been perfect despite the gaming flaws if Big wasn't in it.
