We've all , I think, over the course of our fandom believed whole-heartably in something about our favorite blue hedgehog that we later found out to be false. So what 's your Sonic Assumption?
For me I believed for about a period of 5 years when I was young that there was a game called Sonic 4 which starred Sonic and Amy with box-art similar to Sonic and Knuckles. I have no idea why I thought this other then the fact that I might have seen screenshots of Sonic CD and imagined the rest.

Heh, this read "The Mildly Amusing Ass" on the frontpage. I think I once thought Sonic CD and Sonic 3D were the same game, re-titled for different consoles. That was a good long while ago, like.

Prior to reading or playing anything with him in it, I thought Knuckles was Sonic's girlfriend.
I don't know why.

I don't know if it's mildly amusing or not, but I had assumed in my youth that the Master System version of Sonic was the first one - rather than the other way around.

I once thought Tails was called Two-Two... for some reason. I think I read that in an Argos catalogue or something that had Sonic 2 for sale.

I used to think Sonic wasn't a waste of time that would later bite me in the ass.

Prior to reading or playing anything with him in it, I thought Knuckles was Sonic's girlfriend. I don't know why. When I first saw a promo poster for Sonic 3, I pointed at the then-pink Knuckles and said "Ha! Amy's hair has got all wet and she's pissed off!" True story.

I swear to God I once found Sonic 3 for the Master System listed in an Argos catalogue.
The fact that I a) really wanted Sonic 3 and b) had an MS but not a Mega Drive at this point in my life had nothing to do with it.

I though that STC was american written (as I though Sonic was American and they made all good things) I mean this was in the early days of the comic, before the really really obvious this is jiust england but with hedgehogs stories. and I thought as the official comic it was the official story line.
I was also sure the kintobor story was in the start of the Sonic 1 manual were story bits would be in most manuals... turns out it was an article in another book I was remembering

I even remember when I first collected all the chaos emeralds in Sonic Advance saying "Wait a minute, I can play as Super Sonic in a level?! I thought he was evil!". This was at a point in my life where I only had Sonic 1 and 2 on the Mega-Drive (which at the time was broken, don't ask me how it happened, I don't know). I had been given Sonic 3D on pc as birthday present, but other than that, seeing as I had been denied a Dreamcast, Sonic Advance was my first time I was able to play a proper Sonic game in two years. EDIT: I also was a fan of the cartoons before I even knew the games existed, so when I was given a Sega Mega-Drive for my birthday I assumed the Sonic games were based on the cartoons and not the other way around. I distinctly remember crying out "Hey! Why does Robotnik look so different?"

Sonic was one of my first games, so I wasn't good enough when I played it before the megadrive broke to unlock super sonic or even know of his existence. I only was able to do that when I bought the Sonic Mega Collection and a new megadrive years later.

Sonic 3 had cartridge memory so my second hand copy had super sonic unlocked, and sonic 2 I was a dirty cheat... thanks to segas official comic I may add

When SA2 screenshots first started appearing, I emailed the site reporter telling him that the 'white character who seems to have the same moves as Knuckles' would be Dr. Zachary. And the robot (of which there were no pictures yet) would be a Guardian Robot if it was yellow.

First Sonic game I ever played was Sonic 2 on my mate's MS, and for reasons I can't remember I thought that Tails got electrocuted to death in the end sequence if you finished without all the Chaos Emeralds.

When I first saw Knuckles, I thought he was just Sonic after having a load of red paint dumped on him.

The Stiv™. I told my friends roughly the same thing actually.

I didn't have much thought, Knuckles first introducion via the game I barely knew. I played Sonic 2 all the time at the local family centre (Good ol' days when family centres were the most fun you'll ever have T_T). Knuckles wasn't famlair until my brother started buying STC. So I had abstract "vision" of what his character was like. Before he got into STC (he bought one then missed one, the second got him into the comic), my brother had some of the earlier Archie comics he happen to pick up. So the first encounter was via "in my opinion Knuckles is just a misunderstood marsupiel" (note; bad spelling is my fault not Archies).
Then STC kicked in and we got down with the Sonic and Knuckles saga; the more epic storylines. And we were BOTH hooked on the comic.

Sonic 3 had cartridge memory so my second hand copy had super sonic unlocked, and sonic 2 I was a dirty cheat... thanks to segas official comic I may add realized in my rush I put I was good, rather then wasn't... making me very arrogant i thought sonic spinball, sonic cd and knuckles chaotix were probably the best sonic games and truly epic in there story and level design. my view on sonic cd and spinball coloured by two screen shoots in sonic the yearbook (which claims to be from 1992 on wikipedia but seeing as it reviews sonic 3 must be from 1994 or at least christmas 1993? any way I was 5 maybe 6 and didn't want to read boring non comics so didn't read the reviews. From the two picture I constructed images of vast underground chambers with dark marble columns evil sea monster badnik's and other delights I didn't and couldn't own. when I fianlly played all all the games Chaotix late 1995.... bored and confused cd 2002 - they can't even program the rings to not be in the walls spinball 2004 - well this is just boring by the same logic I thought the master system games were awesome because a freind had them and me and all my other freinds had the mega drive versions. A normal kid would have bullied the poor kid with a master system.... I assumed because no one else had these games they were rarer. also he was a kid called alex, and his master system had alex the kidd built in... I assumed using my young logic if I got a master sytem the game built in would be matt the kidd because the people would program the name in for me at the store, much as they may add my name to a birthday cake if they had been bakers.

I reckon I'm not the only person to think this, but after completing the Dark story on SA2 and the post-credits video announced "Farewell, Sonic... Forever" I thought that meant that SA2 would be the last Sonic game ever.
