Alerted by JJ, stolen from Oddworld Inhabitants' Facebook page. They were at Eurogamer and I couldn't bloody go... arrrgh!
If the video doesn't load properly skip to around 14mins 30 seconds.
The basic message is: Lorne Lanning is back and so is Oddworld! I've already played the Stranger's Wrath HD version JAW made with loving detail and it's great. Abe's Oddysee however is being rebuilt under the name New 'n' Tasty (geddit? :B) then the plan is to complete the old Quintology. The footage in that video is by JAW's admission, pre-alpha but I think it looks fantastic. I was practically leaping up and down in my seat!
Now, before anyone points this out - I know a lot of this feeling is nostalgia. I got the same response from seeing Sonic CD being re-released (also have enjoyed the hell out of that!) but this is something new. Although not entirely different from the original game, this is a return to Rupture Farms (maybe not the same one Abe came from... ) but still looks like the continuation of Abe's story and the wider Oddworld...uh, world... I for one am super-psyched to see this.

This is true. A high pedestal for someone your height is incredibly high! haha!
Please don't hurt me...
However I agree with your sentiment that the original game is absolutely fantastic. So much so that upon playing Exoddus the first time, I actually felt a little disappointed with it! (I got over it...)
I'm sure after the squee-frenzy is done I might not be so hyper about it, but my initial reaction to seeing that pre-alpha footage was joy. I suspect it can only improve as they continue development.

Always loved the style and the humour of Oddworld. But never really got on with the games themselves, mostly because I've kinda accepted that unless a game has "Sonic" or "of" in the title I'm probably going to be quite [censored]e at them. The only one I've actually finished is Munch's Oddysee.
Glad that the Quintology might be back on track now. I hope Exoddus gets the HD treatment as well. Zee Boiler?

I remember having the original Abe's Oddysee and liking it, but not getting very far. I think I managed to complete Scrabania but not Paramonia, but I hadn't been able to rescue every Mudokon by that point so I was already lined up for the bad ending anyway. The only other Oddworld game I played was Stranger's Wrath, which I really enjoyed.
May check this out, but I'm wondering if the changes they're making will impact the game in any significant way. With these remakes they have to be careful about changing stuff; I just hope any changes they make to this will be well-judged.
