Hopefully it'll be better than the first one.

Yeah, it's always nice to aim high, but the first one was so good. I can't imagine this being anything less than very, very funny.
I think I might actually prefer Talladega Nights, though.

I seem to remember finding it funny the first time I watched it, but then again I was about 15. Bought it at Tesco the other night under the pre-tense of 'oh, that was funny' and ended up turning it off after about 30 minutes. The cheap slapstick American humour is just cringe worthy.

Very little of Anchorman's humour is slapstick. Very, very little. I can only think of the thrown burrito - which is hilarious. Christ, I could roll out line after line from that movie that just has me crying with laughter. I'm in fits just thinking about the part with "Doesn't it mean 'Saint Diego'?" "No." "No, that's - that's what it means."
It works for some people and doesn't work for others. It's a very specific, rhythmic, verbal type of humour a lot like Adult Swim's stuff.
Edit: On a re-read, "Cheap, slapstick American humour", jesus. That is so wide of the mark. There are no cheap laughs in Anchorman, it's largely humour based on absurdity, sound, rhythm and delivery. It's this fantastic, 80% improvised stew of talented people. And you only watched the first thirty minutes? There is basically no slapstick in the first thirty minutes. I don't think the burrito turns up by then.
Making me defend Anchorman again against someone who demonstrably wasn't paying attention when they watched it. Grumble.

Most of the time throughout it I was smiling or s[censored]ing and then there was a line that did have me crying with laughter. Actually like most Adult Swim stuff. "God does not want her to live any more

I know people are bound to say this about stuff they really love, but I genuinely think it must take some extremely severe depression and/or other mental illness to not find Anchorman funny. I don't even understand how it could even be considered "not for some."
It's almost as if people don't like it because they are snobs and will only watch more "high-brow" entertainment that makes them feel smarter than everyone else because they half get it sometimes.
Seriously, Anchorman is one of the funniest creations of all time. I don't say this about a lot of things because I understand the concepts of subjectivity and taste, but there is nothing wrong with Anchorman and if you are not entertained by it, then there is definitely something wrong with you and you should feel ashamed and so should your parents.

Maybe it was spoiled for me by the fact I knew it line-for-line before even seeing it. And I can't stand Will Ferrell.

It's almost as if people don't like it because they are snobs and will only watch more "high-brow" entertainment that makes them feel smarter than everyone else because they half get it sometimes. The irony herein being that Anchorman really is high-brow; that sounds bizarre, but I'd definitely make the argument for absurdist comedy falling into that area, especially when the jokes are as smartly constructed as they are here. It takes a lot of effort to make comedy like this actually work.If you don't believe me, ask Adam Sandler. He's been trying his whole life and still not managed it. Anchorman is as smartly funny as anything in Arrested Development, if not occasionally moreso. Saying otherwise is a fool's game.

Yes, of course it's highbrow - that's why people who don't like it say it isn't.

I'm getting deja vu. Have we had this exact thread before? Yes. Also I found Anchorman hilarious at the time. The problem is I didn't find it as funny last time I watched it. Possibly because I've had the entire film quoted to me from one source or another. (yes I know. Pot, kettle, black... shut up! ) I hope this will be just as weird and twisted as the first one.
